Listen to the live of "when my train pull in". In this live for this particular song the solo is on another level almost to the one from Jimmy Hendrix and Carlos Santana. And the voice is perfection. Since i saw and listen to this live i became a fan.
What you don't realize, was this was his breakthrough moment. Until this point in his career nobody outside Austin knew who he was. He was given a shot; He Nailed His Moment.
Doyle Bramhall II deserves credit here I think. Great players. Great to see one let the other come to the fore and not insert themselves. Great performance all round.
Reminds me of how it was only after Jimi Hendrix found fame in the UK that the Americans wanted to take notice. Until then he was only another “black man” who had his amps turned down. Legends prevail ✌️
Gary Clark Jr is off the hook, his concert at Lollapalooza was over the top and soo jammed. This guy arrived awhile ago! Welcome you all who are new to him! Glad you finally found him. Trying to get tix to a concert in May, barely any tic left at Red Rocks in Colorado!
No body notice the fact that at 3:30 the guy in the Yellow tshirts was supposed to play his solo but due to technical difficulty there was no sound and he says it in Gary's ear and Gary improvises for the rest of the song ,LIVE, mind-blowing
What people don't know was there was a technical problem.. The P.A. dropped sound so they couldn't hear right. He extended the intro of the song til the sound kicked in on the other guitarist amp... then it came back on. You can see the yellow shirt guy make a face like wtf at the beginning and then works it out. Clark held the song together like glue and extended the intro and improved the leads. At some point They came back on. Also that second lead was improved and extended when the crowd lost it.. That's some balls right there keeping your shit together when things are going wrong and steps up and owns it like a boss that he is. Clapton wrote a note to him saying thank you. You make me want to play again.😀
I have been waiting for this video to come back around. I was checking this out a couple of years ago. This is sweet blues, modern day blues. If you're a blues fan and you haven't seen this, you missed the last chapter in the story. This guy is the next blues star. It was Steve Ray Vaughan and now it is Gary Clark Jr. He's it. Gary Clark Jr. has a Jimi Hendrix feel with a back beat blues. Hot stuff...
I love when they do a close up on Gary's face like at 4:45. You can see a reflection on his sunglasses that shows you what it must look like from his perspective.
"brand shit" lol If you go with a brand like Ray-Ban, you buy quality and glasses that actually protect your eyes, unlike the ones at Walmart. They will last you a lifetime if you take care of them properly. I use Aviators that are around 30 years old, I just had to change the nose pads 10 years ago because I lost one somehow. I agree that a brand name is not a guarantee of quality, but for some brands it is.
I just love the tone of this song. Like he's aspiring to get big. And at his biggest gig to date at that point he remains stoic behind those giant aviators. He's just so blues. Its great.
and after all the incredible performance he closes with that billion-dollar smile and says "thank you"-- what a gorgeous man and equally gorgeous family. bless u all, love from india
10 years ago eh? Raw eh? Damn right it is!! I just found Clark 15 Dec 2021. I envy your last 10 years and look forward to the next 10 with bluesy jamming.
When I saw this on a PBS Eric Clapton special it was the first time I ever heard of him and this song ,since then I have downloaded different versions of it ,including the studio version, and this is by far the best version of this song I have found . Saw him at the Beale street music festival in Memphis a couple years ago his version of this song that night didn’t come close to this ...Absolutely outstanding performance !!!
Gary's amazing talent is obvious we are truly blessed to have him share it with the world. my hope is that he inspires generations of children and adults to do the same. thank you Gary and all those who helped bring his music to our ears.
#GARYCLARKJR #BRIGHTLIGHTS You say alot with your guitar. And, I like everything you are saying. You are a brilliant guitarist young man. A true pleasure to listen to. Jam on brother from another mother !!! 😄👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🎸🎷🎺🎹🥁🎸💚🧡🧡💖💙❤️💜🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🇨🇱
Josh dM Are you referring to the pedal? Yeah....they used wah pedals a LOT in the seventies...that was part of why it hit my ear that way. But he's got a dedication to sixties type blues, too. It's all good.
Still here. This song is why I love the blues: none of the parts are complicated, but all of them are important, and if you aren't doing them right all at once, it doesn't work. But when it DOES work, you just drill directly to the brainstem and stick in there forever.
I know it's a corny cliche, but I blast this Song once and a while early in the morning before daybreak as I'm cruising over the bridge into the city of Brotherly Love, just to hype me up!
4:30 in the morning here in ny and im starting my day off with gary and the boys, doyle makes it all work as well, but damn how i love watching this as much as hearing it, i will never tire of this
2:10 Probably one of the greatest music shots of all time. A gritty song about fame and pride and then a shot of him capturing the entire crowd in his visor. So cool
I realize I'm WAY LATE to the party when it comes to this genius. Saw him on the Grammys. Went straight to Amazon to order Black and Blu. He can make a guitar do things that I have never heard before.

One of my favorite go to albums is the Arc Angels self titled debut. If you are a SRV fan, you will like this. DBII with Charlie Sexton & Double Trouble. It should've been bigger than it was!
YT needs to come up with a Super Like option. Because when it comes to mastery like this....A simple "thumbs up" will never do justice. Exceptional rarity like this must invade my feed EVERY SINGLE TIME!!!
I love my flip phone, refused the free smart phone (it knows too much.. it knows... stuff!). My son may text at dinner so when I "flip him off" with a call to my union of flipper folks, we talk about how rude we are, why talk at dinner. Now my son has his connected to his computer. How far we've come beyond literacy. Edumacation. Ah, my smart phone will undoubtedly train me. Type this word so we know we are not androids: "I". Oy!
