Tchaikovsky wrote many dark compositions. One of his tools for darkness was moving from the German 6th chord to a minor chord. He used this in all inversions of the German 6th chord.
But he also wrote many light, joyful compositions, and one of his trademarks was the traumatic contrast between the dark and the light.
So this is a tribute to Tchaikovsky.
