Today, Craig and Celeste taste a Gary Mango we purchased from Mark Beverly. Gary is a parent of Coconut Cream - one of our favorite mangos (a Gary/Edward cross).
We will be tasting both mangos grown at our own farm on the west coast of Florida and from other Florida farms (mainly on the east coast). Mangos taste different when grown in different conditions and when picked at different times/ripened differently. Our opinions of a particular mango are just that - opinions on one specific mango, off of a specific tree, growing in a a specific location. We are not evaluating a variety in general and by no means intend to offend anyone by our less than stellar review of what might be your favorite mango.
Sulcata Grove is our 2 acre, backyard food forest. We grow over 60 varieties of bananas along with many fruit trees. Our videos are family friendly.

I have a Gary tree. It’s very productive on alternate years. They generally stay green and small. The flavor is very concentrated and really delicious -tropical, coconut, and is indeed a parent to many of Zill’s new varieties. I love it!

Another question? Lemon Meringue vs. Lemon Zest vs. Orange Sherbet? Equally good? Or does one stand out? It seems most people put Lemon Zest first.

John Banach Our 7 year old Lemon Zest tree hasn’t been productive the past two years. Our Lemon Meringue tree is only 2-3 years old and is very productive. Our Orange Sherbet is 1 year in the ground (3g tree) and held 3 full sized fruits.

I found the "orange" to be much more pronounced in the Orange essence, I really need to try them side by side at equal ripeness to do a fair comparison. as for LZ vs PPK, the PPK I had this year beat the LZ, maybe it was the different ripeness or how they were harvested, etc, PPK was sooo good. I even ate the skin, which I never do on any other mango.

@@agriperma I've never tasted OS, and LZ only once. I've eaten lots of PPK, and I love that mango! When my friend bought the PPK tree, I thought you are so silly, man. "Lemon Meringue?," how dumb! Turns out I was the dumb one!

@@johnbanach3875 If you have the chance try OE ( Orange Essence ) not lemony like PPK, but on the fruity orange side. still PPK really is one of the best there is.
