My first ever concert was for his Houston stop of the I, Assassin tour. I thought it was fantastic. He invited everyone back to the hotel for a birthday party for Pino (I didn't go). Sorry to hear he has bad memories of this tour. Lol. Bad times make you stronger Gary.
I saw this show at the Kabuki in San Francisco. I knew Palladino and Slade had played with him, but no idea that was Rob Dean on guitar. Now I can say I have seen all of the members of Japan in one form or another. Well, except for Masami Tsuchiya.
It’s great, I had a very kind reply from Gary’s dad some years back-around time of the Machine Music compilation-confirming it is with them somewhere and may come out in the future, though I personally doubt it. What a wonderful blu ray with cd set that would be from Gary to his fans-complete concert, videos for singles from that album, TOTP pieces and all interviews from then! A great limited edition-would definitely sell out!
I was at this tour in Cleveland, Ohio. I remember Gary’s microphone going out during “Down in the Park”. Not real sure but I think it was in 1980 or 81.
Assassin is my favorite album. It was my first major exposure to Pino and the reason I traded my fretted for a fretless bass. Great clip, but apparently he wasn’t pals with Pino, which is too bad. Wish they’d done more together.
How did the recordings come out? I remember the guitar solo he did (can’t remember what song it was) and have a few photos I took from the crowd with my 35mm camera. Good times!
Great UL thanks! Anymore of this video? Liked music from Gary then but was never keen on that slick '80's 'marketed' look they ( I assume) got him into. 40 years in this game this year - off to see him at The Roundhouse last night of UK (Re)volution tour in a few weeks, so really looking forward to that!
Isn't it amazing how well dressed and slim Gary used to be? To look at him now. Granted some of the clothes that Gary wears now are edgy. He's aged well well. However he has put on quite a bit of weight. He needs to trim down a little bit again. Needs to eat healthier and exercise more. I agree that it's a pity this show or tour never got released on DVD. You can see by the footage here that was filmed. We should bully the people who own the video rights to this to release it. Also to pity but dead heaven waploaded this video did not upload the complete interview. Is Stead a suddenly cutting out. We could have had a good full length interview here. Would it be very nice. I agree with the comment below. Gary should tour with Dance, I Assassin and Warriors. This year is 40 years since dance got released. What a great opportunity that would be for Gary to tour with these three albums. It's hard to believe that April 27th 28th and 29th is 40 years since the Wembley shows. The great opportunity to release some stuff here isn't there? Just a thought. Pure.
I think your comments about Gary are quite rude to be honest, im sure you look the same as you did in your 20's today ? No? also i did upload the whole segment regarding the 1982 tour ..!..
