Wow, I was at this concert in 76 at Balboa Stadium. Gary Wright, Yes, and Peter Frampton. What a concert and look at everyone having fun. Those were the days and man do I miss them. Gary Wright was a brilliant musician and will desperately be missed. RIP.
No wonder that was familiar! My bro-in-law saw the Beatles backstage there. He was crushed against a chain link fence when girls heard him say "Hey John!"
Gary was singular, no doubt. I wish I'd been born a decade before '67, as the 70's stadium concerts were special from that bygone era. Didn't go live shows until in teens in 80's. Missed Cal Jams and all the great music and fun.
left out GENTLE GIANT. I was at this show too. First time eating magic mushrooms. Made my breath taste like farts. Good show tho. Yes' RELAYER Tour, with Moraz. My first big concert.
@@NickNicometiI was born in 61 so I was at the tail end of the 70s concerts. I was luck but still wish I was born in 57 to catch all of the 70s shows.
1976. One of the greatest, if not the greatest year in popular music. Concerts with legends like this. Abba - Arrival. Boston - Boston. Stevie Wonder - Songs In The Key Of Life. Not a single bad song on the charts.
My heart is on fire too-For this beautiful hit song, from Gary Wright-So sorry to learn Gary Wright died on Labour Day yesterday, for Monday September 4th-He will be MISSED-But Gary's hit songs and music, will live FOREVER!
Thank you for this. Gary's music will forever be remembered and memorialized as some of the most uplifting and unique creations my ears have ever been blessed to listen to. Such positivity in a tumultuous time. Rest in Peace my friend.
Without these 2 tunes, this and Dream Weaver, the 70s wouldn't have been quite as groovy. I get Gerry Rafferty and him mixed up a bit, their music was so atmospheric. RIP, you will be missed
@@drummerboy2521 legendary family of musicians. We’ve lost two of them but they certainly left their mark. Impressive spot on with Steve there my friend. Your knowledge runs deep as does mine !!! I have a feeling we’ll cross paths again sometime.
I swear this was the best era for music - regardless of genre. So grateful to have been alive at that time to experience life in that moment in time. Everything was better
Yes ! Soooo many different sounds even within the rock genre ! As a keyboard player just getting into synthesizers, I was into ANY band that had a keyboard player, and I believe the Dream Weaver album had NO guitar at all. So way cool ! Sadly, I didn’t know he passed. RIP Gary, your music left a mark on me.
Yes! Very infectious plus he’s handsome, & totally into his music! So glad he dropped out of medical school & pursued the arts instead, a natural born performer.
RIP Gary this is REAL MUSIC yall, his keyboardist went in to Toto and wrote for Michael Jackson....true talent. What an amazing voice and energy Gary had.....him and Jimmy Buffet are jamming in the nethers
Darren I didn't know that his keyboard player play for other bands and backed up Michael Jackson, that is so cool. When I was a teenager in high school, my art teacher had the radio going and Gary Wright would come on all the time, I used to live in Desert Hot Springs, the next town over from Palm Springs and Gary's Love Is Alive with come on all the time, oh my gosh that's it such a wonderful feeling hearing Gary and his songs. I will carry Gary's songs for the rest of my life and I am 65 years Young, it's a shame he had so many years being in pain. Thank you for your comment on Gary and Jimmy Buffett. Lately we have been losing so many wonderful musicians, makes me feel very strange.
Gary Wright was a very great friend of music legends George Harrison and Ravi Shankar of India and changed music forever with synthesizer and Dream Weaver 1975 was born and traveled too san Diego summer of 1976 with Peter Frampton great times of music commands the crowd back than.
Thank You for this wonderful video. I would have loved to have been at this concert. This concert was at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, on July 17, 1976. This was the "'Dream Weaver Tour." Peter Frampton and Yes, also performed on that day. A young Steve Porcaro (of Toto), was on the Mini Moog Synthesizer.
I saw them on this tour in 1976 but at Angel Stadium in LA (this footage is from their San Diego concert). Gentle Giant opened the show with about an hour set, followed by Gary Wright with an hour set, then Peter Frampton doing about 2 hours and then Yes for the finale. It was an amazing lineup, with two of my fave bands Gentle Giant and Yes! Gary Wright was fantastic too. I was amazed that all of his musicians on stage - except for the drummer - were playing a keyboard, most of them around theirs necks - never saw anything like that before or since.
Wow, imagine that. A singer who actually sounds good in concert and can sing in key. This is an awesome song and I was actually alive when it came out and listened to it many times on AM radio.
This was such a great tour of all four bands. I was at Anaheim Stadium up in the third deck. Gentle Giant, Gary Wright, Peter Frampton, and Yes. All at the top of their game. We’ll never see their like again.
The air, the sounds, the beaches and mountains, the people who listened to real music...it was just amazing, spiritual and in a way it was blessed! When will it come back....or do we need a time machine!?
48 yrs ago when I first heard Gary Wright’s Music I set out to Purchase an “ARP String Ensemble” Oberheim & Moog synths. I’m a Keyboardist and exactly 1 year younger than Keyboardist Steve Porcaro ( that thin guy ) on keys in this video. R.I.P. Gary
I love this video. I love watching this stadium fill up with all these 1970s cool cats! I love the way the shared love of the same music brings people from all around together. I love that 1000s of people pour in over such a short period of time without incident. AND THEN they all get to enjoy Gary Wright together! I wish I was there!
I saw Gary with his band back in 1978. I won a pair of tickets from my local "Album Rock" station, and at 14, I was too young to drive myself to the venue, so my long-suffering brother took me and sat through the concert with me. Gary was brilliant! The sound was perfect!
I'm sure I was at that show... Young fella, mid 20s just hell on wheels in my prime. What great concerts! This was within walking distance of where I was living at the time. The bands lasted from 1:00 p.m. 'till around midnight. It was a monster. And I can assure you the audio was MUCH better than what this video suggests!
I was 8 years old when this concert took place. I'm 49 now,,and anybody under 35 today has no clue what a REAL concert was like. Especially one like this,,summertime, outside, arena venue,,AT LEAST 25 thousand people. You didn't need to bring any party favorites to a concert, they were already here. how concerts have seriously changed. The last decade of real concerts were the 80's. I'm so glad my hippie mother took me to concerts like this in the 70's. and they were the best in the Midwest,,
Great times back then...."Greatest Generation" in charge. "Boomers" paying their dues. We, "Generation X" were watching Saturday morning cartoons and enjoying eating Frosted Flakes while just being kids.
😄👍❤️💯 I did remastered this song with Roxio editor. Sounds clean, clear, and powerful! God bless you Gary! Rest in peace! But, your songs will never rest. Play on forever! 😌👍🔊🎼🎵🎶
Very, very saddened about the loss of the synth-rock-heavy icon who was very hot in the 1970s--almost as hot as KISS, Queen, Santana, and maybe even Lynyrd Skynyrd, in the 1970s. I am also having a hunch that a lot of Southern Rock fans in the 1970s--even Skynyrd fans--would go to arena rock shows like that for the--I think---"Love Is Alive" tour. Gary Wright's hot "synth-heavy" rock grooves and tunes inspired even the Steve Miller band to pay homage to Gary's synth work with the long introduction to "Fly Like An Eagle", known for its synthesizer pyrotechnics of swoop-ups, ring mods, arpeggiations, and rising scales." Likely an indirect homage. But it is so sad that we lost an icon. There may never be another Gary Wright in the foreseeable future! So sad we lost him!! :( :(
I see the double-deck synth set up here in Gary's backing band, which is a reminder of what they had done also in "Dreamweaver" - one of Gary's unforgettable numbers. Likely timeless as well, too. :) :)

I remember this concert at Jack Murphy,. My older sister asked me if I wanted to go with her and her two BFFs,. I said no thanks,. Drop me off at Del Mar the waves were to high to pass up. Big mistake,. Got hit is the head with a fin had 21 stiches.
Great live performance. Gary's soulful, powerful voice and the groove of the players really add to the energy. I like the dreamy quality of the studio version, but this performance incorporates that dreamy quality with a soulful energy. Great performance.
