Hello Steve! Told you before but it’s worth repeating, I appreciate your craftsmanship and the fact that you always make the effort to do the job the absolute best you can! Well Done my friend!
Loved the footage Steve. Reminded me of all the thousands of feet of galvanized conduit pipe I ran while speeding my last five and a half years in the IBEW . Of course we had to bend the ells ,forty fives and offsets . Got hairy with 2" ,2/12" and three inch pipe but felt like I was doing a man size job .
Nice job Steve! Yes the black pipe does make a better looking job. Also it can't be crushed or punctured. The flex stuff is somewhat durable, but no where nears as durable as black pipe.
Nice. In our area we can’t go straight through from the gas meter like that. We have to have numerous swing joints before entering, to allow for any possible movement.
Nice job Steve. I see how this works, you pay your mechanic to fix your truck and he, in return, pays you to gas pipe his new garage heatah. This is how a local small business economy can and should operate….keep the cash local and keep it out of the hands of those who have more than they can spend in a lifetime. 👍😊🇺🇸 “Dirty Hands, Clean Money” well, dirty gloves 😜.
I prefer black gas pipe over anything else. It feels more solid, looks better, reliable. It can usually handle being hit. especially in a garage.. Anyone with half a brain can thread it. Tools to work with it aren't all that expensive.
I'm in the same situation by myself I use been using some megapress though makes things easier sometimes I have to run pipe in my own pole building been using more mega press pressgot a job coming up gas furnace got to run gas pipe off meter hot air 90 plus probably won't make it probably some gas tight finish up
In New Hampshire technically it is illegal to even hook up a tank to a gas grill without a license. But everyone does it anyway because it is not enforced.
Not sure what your Plumbing codes in NY call for but I would have thought they would require a tee on the exterior with a plug and that is where you would do the pressure test. This also serves for using a temporary tank if the meter needs to be serviced.
All the towns here in North East Connecticut that I deal with won’t let you in to get a permit in person since Covid. You have to setup an online account and apply online and pay with a credit card. If all goes well they MAY get you your permit in a couple weeks😡. What grief. Nice job on that unit, the flue looks sketchy.
Steve u do help aloe of us guys out u live and learn every day on jobs you got me through a lot of things and I want too say thank you for all you do 🙏
Where is "Miss Molly", hope she , with you ? Anyways, glad you still run "Black Iron", for gas, guys here in Pa. run that, flex, black coated, I don't trust that, as we have lots of Thunderstorms, & Lightning hit's.
so nice to see you doing black pipe, its a lost art to the young ones, here in canada they would have put in copper tubing, Im old school and use black pipe and over code schedule 80 not 40
I guess the owner would have to specify to the plumber to put the piping in the studs if at a later date he wanted to sheetrock & insulate the garage for some reason. Im sure it would be a little more money in labor for Steve .Either way a nice straight forward job! Well done !
@@torchup Who wants to look at it? Hide it in the wall. You want your electrical exposed too?? With 2 holes it could have gone thru the studs, up 6' and out to the heater, for a nice clean look. Yup, it's fine, but if I were hiring anyone I'd have specified that...
those heaters require stainless steel venting instead of b vent for code requirments. also the dirt pocket should be after the valve and that doesnt look like minimum 3inch in length
I once bought a house a house and the builders rep was showing the ex wife and I the house. We were up in the attic where both gas water heaters and a gas furnace were. He kept referring to this high tech yellow gas pipe. I finally stopped him and asked if he was talking about that same old yellow flexible gas pipe that had been in use for years. He stopped trying to impress me after that.
Glad to see you using the sleeve- good practice. Def tell your tools aren’t made in China and break like the crap made from there. Good ¯\◔ー◔/¯ job. 👍👍
Peopleo commenting on sorry for the person that has to sheetrock around the gas pipe. Well if they are professionals then it should look good when their done regardless of how the pipe was ran. Every thing in life ain't easy just deal with it.
In my building all the gas lines into the apartments are 1" flex. I'm amazed there hasn't been a leak at some point. I'm sure it made the bean counters happy while building the place though...
i like to use an old wire hanger, just cut off the long straight part with linemans pliars and the cut area acts as a drill tip. i like to use this cuz if u miss it only leaves an 1/8 inch hole behind vs. a 1/4 or 3/16
Steve I am a retired plumber and Steamfitter from the Ct. local I want to no how much you charge I have no idea some times people are like this is to much so I don’t get the job then some times I end up screwing my self try to make about 50 to 80 a hour
I was taught your hold back wrench is always the larger of the two, so you can't overpower your hold back, but just saying in real life seldom done in that manner just saying
Hey brother thanks for the video Enjoyed it,and you have shown your phone number on the side of your truck, don't know if that's a good thing, crank calls, just thought you might want to know.see you on the next one.
That wasn't his phone number. His is on both sides of the truck 🚚. That one on the back says Mr Dartmouth. I was confused too. But he's shown his number many times before on videos🤫
on the inside why did you use a T instead of a 90 degree to go up? also why use all this black pipe when you can just use that yellow flexy stuff? thanks nice job!
He used a Tee because a drip leg is needed at a heat source and the yellow flex crap is not being used in many places now and will not meet code… plus in a garage black pipe is more rugged to impacts
You can use a flex line if the appliance is moveable like a range or gas dryer. But, if the appliance is non-moveable, the black pipe gas line will add stability to the gas line and heater. Steve does the same thing to a gas water heater.
What is the code requirement for the drip leg? Seems like all the ones I see are six inches in length and closer to the appliance. Good choice on the hard pipe vs. the flex crap!
In a high loss space like a garage thats not well insulated and the doors leak, the mini split will struggle on cold days. The hot dog will heat up that space in no time from 20-30 degrees. The mini split might takes a few hours to raise the temp 30 degrees on a cold day.
@@ntsecrets for infrequent use, the hot dog is the better option. Agree on the insulation, but heat pumps are generally better to keep a space near steady state vs be turned off all week, then fire it up from a cold start on the weekend. I installed a heat pump in a garage for a home gym conversion, during the summer, the cooling is great as your only looking to do a 20 degree delta, say 90-70. In the winter when it's 20 outside, and you want to make it 60, it takes far too long to heat up to be practical. The hot dog is instant gratification and probably costs less to run. Every climate and use case is different, but up in Steve's territory, the winters are pretty cold.
I seem to think Steve may like this joke. A Madam had a new business location built on the top of a hill. From any direction it was about 1/10 mile walk from the main road, so police could not do a surprise raid of her establishment. Well business was good, so there was a guy walking up the hill, another walking down the hill and one was inside. With the information you have what is their nationalities??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? The one going up the hill is Russian. the one coming down the hill is Finish the one inside Hymalayan.
SO HAS PERMITS permissions and environmental REGULATIONS laws and all the corruption that goes along with it made THE COUNTRY THE UNITED STATES A BETTER PLACE? I really enjoy your videos and many others here on youtube...and some of you are sons of sons of sons.... that is also how socialism/communism works guys WHEN ALL THIS IS TAKEN TO THE EXTREME... My point is the owner's are laughing at this the employees either don't understand or don't care. PRIDE in your work and HIGH QUALITY for a F A I R price is what made this country great. I don't know how we pass that on competing with parts of the world that pay 1 digit BEFORE the decimal PER HOUR for work now. Sorry Steve to go political just alot happening in the world.
@mike fromuniontown BINGO, my friend. Most people have LOST sight of those facts unfortunately. As far as I am concerned we need to go back to much much smaller gov't, perhaps back to what we had in the 1920s or earlier!
