GAS TANK HEAT SHIELD NO LONGER IDENTIFIES AS A HEAT SHIELD🤔🤣🤪😜

Hey guys, today we have a 2011 Toyota Corolla with a very loud rattle. The noise is coming from the exhaust. The mounting points on this heat shield over time rust away. Once this happens the heat shield sits on the exhaust. We replace the gas tank heat shield with all new hardware. Enjoy!

I love it, as soon as the video came up I went. Well, well, well what do we have here? Oh Look it's the venerable, completely underpowered, never dies, we used a timing chain this time, 1.8 VVT! baby! Most underpowered and overbuilt 4 banger Nippon ever produced. It's the engine you hate to love. This be why 'rollas and Vibes never die.

CSW, I concur with your diagnosis. That was a Swiss Cheese Heat Flow-Thru Screen. And if you have a rattle in 2003-2008 Toyota Corollas, Toyota Matrices, and Pontiac Vibes, and it is NOT under the car, check the belt tensioner bolts; the longest bolt (Giggity!) that threads into the engine block had a defect, and shears in half apparently due to load stress induced by the tensioner, which was also redesigned. If you are lucky you can extract the bolt by loosening the passenger-side engine mount and jacking the motor up just enough to get enough room to get the bolt pieces out. There is a TSB and a since-ended internal recall on the bolts and I think the 1st Gen OEM tensioners. I love my little Corolla, but ask me how I learned this on the used 2003 Toyota I bought in April of this year...

Speaking of heat shields. After watching this video I crawled under one of my pickups to find out why the floor pan under the passenger seat was getting too hot to touch. The heat shield for the cat was touching both the cat and the underside of the floor pan. I'm going to need the cat lowered a smidgen.
