In my experience there are three main causes for this: 1. Overfilling the gas tank causes gas to migrate into the charcoal canister which causes the charcoal to clump up and or get pushed into the vent lines and or vent valve clogging them up. 2. Good old fashioned dirt, dust, debris gets in the charcoal canister, vent lines, vent valve clogging them up. Very common if you drive on dirt roads a lot. 3. Your vent valve and or your purge valve fails which will usually cause a check engine light. Just take you charcoal canister out and blow compressed air through it, the vent lines, and the vent valve to unclog and you’ll be good to go.

is the vent line and vent valve on the part that he was messing with?
@SurfingWithTheMartian
@SurfingWithTheMartian 7 месяцев назад
@@jjgarcia6833 it does not appear to be but it’s hard to tell. On that vehicle the vent valve may be mounted separate from the charcoal canister. The vent valve will have a vent line going to it and also an electrical connector.

Heads up man. I got a 04 chevy express van. Same issue. It was a bear pulling that canister off and it not fix my issue. There’s also a small purge sensor that regulates the air flow right next to the canister. It’s like 4” tall lil can th at goes bad and stops the flow. U can just unplug it and try to fill the tank first. If that works it’s not the big canister. I’m gonna try that next.

Yeah I had this issue pop up out of no where on my 2012 VW Jetta. I research a ton & couldn't find anyone with the same issue on 2010 or newer Volkswagen & there were no after market canisters for sale. The only ones I found are $200 so I decided to see if I could fix what's causing the blockage cause there's nothing to those canisters that should cause enough failure to have to buy a new one. Also with VW there are no emission's codes that get triggered when this happens. They could do away with 90% of the emissions BS in cars & people would have a lot less problems with there vehicles. I know you can buy a delete kit that removes this canister all together but I'm not sure if it will trigger a code on cars.

That was 2 years ago, curious as if it's still fixed?? Had that happen to my 2011 Santa Fe and all of the charcoal BB's went thru the lines and into the tank. I think 2 or 3 different canisters had to be replaced along with them dropping the gas tank to empty and clean it out totally.

Make sure to vacuum out the vapor line when it’s off !
@BobHGarage
@BobHGarage Год назад
Agreed, if you’re in an emissions testing state this is probably not the move for you if they test your gas tank emissions. Otherwise you’ll be good to go, all the charcoal canister does is reduce the gas vapor smell before routing the vented vapor to the intake manifold vs letting it vent to atmosphere. This will have zero effect on tail pipe emissions 👍

Pump kept shutting off. Removed canister and found that sensor valve housing had a hole in it and electric connector was broken. Stone or something must have come up and whacked it good. Used knife and screwdriver to open canister. Removed charcoal which looked good, no clumping. Blew out filters with air hose, put charcoal back in and sealed with silicone. Replaced the valve sensor part for 30 bucks. Tank fills up with no issue. Hoping this will cause the gascap warning to go away.

If the filter that contains the charcoal fails (& they basically disintegrate over time) it allows the charcoal into the evap lines causing an obstruction there so it's a good idea to blow out the lines w air.
