Let me know if you have used a battery powered string trimmer in your lawn care business and what you thought about it?

Do you find the power consistant with the weed eater , can you notice a small drop in power?

I always used a battery trimmer and blower. Never gas besides a gas lawn mower
@LawnCareBusinessSuccess

@@justinaccount9920 I started using the battery trimmer most of the year along with a Milwaukee blower for about 3 months. I use gas when it’s raining as the Milwaukee is not rated for wet weather. So far this year I’ve only used about a gallon and a half of mixed two stroke gas the whole season on those wet days. Loving the battery power every day and am annoyed when I need to use gas. Thanks for watching.

What about - maintenance of oil? Plus storage of gas vs battery? Plus don't have to run to the gas station to refill, noise + you don't have to start and stop during pauses. With battery - just lift finger from the trigger? I see more value in the battery.

There are many benefits to battery powered equipment but there are also downsides. The maintenance on my echo two stroke gas equipment is zero other than gas. I haven’t changed air filters or fuel filters or spark plugs. They always just work. The fuel it uses is minimal. I can go a whole day doing all my city properties on less then one tank of fuel a day. So even here on the west coast of Canada where fuel is some of the most expensive in North America it still only cost me maybe 50 cents a day to run my trimmer and blower. Plus gas does not lose power as long as it has gas. The battery trimmers I tried start out strong but 2 -3 houses in and the power drops as the battery drains despite claims that it does not from the manufacture. Plus I can use them in the rain without worry or damage to the machine. I love battery power I think it’s the future but I don’t think in certain applications that it makes financial sense yet. Thanks for watching.

@@LawnCareBusinessSuccess thanks for sharing those insights. We recently moved to a house with lawn and no HOA so we are considering options. Being an IT folk I leaned towards battery but your reply makes a lot of sense. Do gas powered like Echo 3020 support attachments so I can use hedge cutter or chain saw to trim branches as some battery powered do? Once again thanks for your time.

I was debating on getting the Milwaukee. I think I will stick to my gas powered now. As a Amsoil Dealer I also use the Sabre Pro 100:1 2 stroke mixture. Cuts my oil cost by 50%. Equipment isn't as stinky and way more power then running it at 50:1. Great video. Thanks for making it.

Actually with the rising costs of fuel I’ve since changed my mind since this video. I now use the Milwaukee everyday in my lawn care business except for rain days along with a Milwaukee hand held blower and also the quick lok system with edger attachment. I have to say after using the Milwaukee stuff all day long almost everyday for the 3 and a half months. I prefer using the battery stuff over the gas. Plenty of power, no fumes, low noise, and never any issues starting. I use on a average 2-3 9.0 batteries in the trimmer each day, and one 12.0 battery in the blower. For the edger a single 9.0 battery will do for the day. Thanks for watching.

2:26 Finally someone brings that up, I've looked through a lot of videos about battery trimmer and no one talks about that critical downside about battery trimmer, it gets worse after few years of use, when the battery is full at 100% it works really well but the moment it hits 90% ish(only about few minutes of use) it starts to shutdown randomly or maybe it just couldn't even handle the force when you cut through grass and hit the dirt. I'd literally have to recharge the battery after every use.

I bought the Ego trimmer and blower this spring and will never go back to gas for routine maintenance. Battery handhelds have less noise, less vibration, no carburetor, spark plug, fuel filter, fuel lines, air filter, mix oil, pull cord, muffler or gas to deal with. The first thing I noticed was my shirt not smelling like exhaust at the end of the day. No more inhaling toxic fumes all day for me. I'll keep my backpack blower and gas trimmer around for big jobs. Thanks for the videos.

I would recommend you try a good 40v or 80v trimmer and it will go for a long time with the same power as gas. And you can get lots of run time with larger batteries. I've also used my 80v Kobalt in light rain with no problem. And if you are worried about it getting wet, just throw a gallon ziploc bag over it.

Electric destroys gas in cars and equipment. I've had a Volt running off my solar panels and the cost savings is extreme ($1500/year fuel in my pocket, pays for the car really, plus you save on repairs, so at least another 1k compared to my old piece jetta, and never changing spark plugs or oil...only tires, not even brake pads in 100k), and the time savings vs stopping for gas, especially when it's snowing or windy or raining, just pull in the garage when you get home lol. Way better. The stihl fsa 90r is legit electric machine for commercial use. Got to try one for an hour when i used a customer's after my 55r gasser threw a spool, and the 90r is way better than gas... no fuel up, no running to get fuel and mixing and gas standing around and carbs going bad, no pulling cord if using intermittently, no smoke and carcinogens in your face, no nasty noise, just whirr of wind and weeds exploding. mucho power and battery lasted well for heavy cutting, (300 series battery). infinite adjustment ON THE FLY so you can just flick your thumb a smidge and gain or reduce speed. On the fly infinite is way better than Milwaukee 2 speed option but overall, I will still need to decide on Mil vs Stihl, but you gotta know what works for you. I do have M18 Impact, grinder, drill, but STihl Kombi with pole saw extensions and edger and a bunch of saws, so if parts are interchangeable or tools, that will be a factor, maybe. Right now I just need the line trimmer, so probably go with my existing battery, M18, plus my friend has an in with a dealer, we'll see.

Yes for sure. It’s been a few years since I did this video. Technology has advanced so much and in my opinion battery string trimmers are far superior to gas units now with many advantages like No gas, no two stroke oil, no spark plugs and air filters, no maintenance, no hard cold starts, no vapour lock in hot weather, no noise, no smell etc. once you start using a good quality commercial battery trimmer you won’t ever want to go back to gas. The only advantage that still remains for gas now is they are cheaper to buy but that will change in time. Thanks for watching.
@freebird5309
@freebird5309 2 года назад
According to your review, the battery trimmer is far superior to the gas trimmer IF (just like any battery power tool) you have another battery to switch it out with halfway when it starts getting low. No extra $, dealing with messy gas and toxic fumes. Simply push button to start, SAME POWER. Got it. Thank you.
@LawnCareBusinessSuccess

The only caveat that I would add is as long as it’s a quality machine. Like everything, has equipment included their are commercial grade high quality units and low end cheap residential units that won’t perform as well. Overall though I’ve been using the Milwaukee M18 trimmer all season this year except for rain days as the Milwaukee is not rated to be used in wet conditions and I have to say at first I wasn’t sure how it would be but forced myself to use it everyday and now I absolutely prefer using the battery trimmer over gas. I’m not sure if covering the motor would be good. It has cents in the side for cooling so could cause thermal issues. To answer your other question, the Milwaukee M18 stuff is all 18 volts. The power of the trimmer is remarkably powerful, but not quite that of a gas trimmer. At least not the high end commercial ones I use like the ECHO srm-2620. Also I noticed that despite the claims that the power band on these is the same from a full charge until it runs out of charge. I just don’t think for the savings in fuel given the cost of the battery equipment that it’s worth it. There may be other reasons why you want to use battery over gas like for me with the hedge trimmers.
