thanks for publishing this video. I will be heading to Pall Mall Tenn in late April 2019. Plan on taking the back roads when possible. Will certainly go through Gate City on my way. Looks like a nice town!
Haven't got down to SW Va. in many years. All of western Va. & W.Va. are great places. Can't wait to leave Tidewater area(retire in W.Va.)I hate population centers.....except for work
It's definitely a whole different lifestyle entirely than the Tidewater area. There's advantages and disadvantages to both but the western part will always be home to me.
Thanks for the video. I know every mile of this highway! Both sides of my family are from Scott Co. Mom from Clinchport, Dad from Duffield. When I was a kid we lived in Kingsport and would drive over every Sunday. Ate at Hob Nob many times. Mom & Dad are buried in Weber City. Such a beautiful area! How about a video further up the road?
North, over the Clinch river at Spears Ferry. (Grandpa operated a mill there, believe in 1930s.) A little further there's Natural Tunnel, past Duffield, Big Stone Gap, then incredible view of Powell Valley just before Norton. Another interesting town nearby is Abingdon, with the Barter Theater, the old tavern (open since about 1790) and Martha Washington Inn. Highway 11 there is one of oldest roads/trails in America. Older even than Boone's Wilderness Road thru Gate City. Thanks and take care.
Shane! I swear, if you ever start a Patreon account, my contribution every month would be earmarked for windshield cleaning supplies. Ok ok, I know I tease you mercilessly about that, I'll stop. :-) You could turn down the heater fan a tad, though... You know how much I've always enjoyed your work at TAP and this one hits real close to home. Made this exact trip a bazillion times and always looked forward to it; usually took the "back way" up through here on my way to Lebanon and points north. Such a beautiful drive...I'd stop in Pal's to grab a biscuit and off into the frosty high country I'd go. I do miss it. Get to feeling better and as always, if you'll keep makin' 'em, we'll keep watchin' them! -Ed on the Ridge
Ed, I just discovered when I originally replied to this my comment didn't post for some reason. I'm thinking about sitting on the hood of my car and having someone drive me around so I don't get the glare and grime lol. It isn't noticeable at all until I get home and watch them back myself - makes me mad every time. I go out of my way too to cut through Nickelsville or Mendota depending on which direction I head. You lose cell service but now I see that as a blessing instead of a curse these days. Thanks for watching.
My Aunt and Uncle took me to the Hob Nob nice place I guess it has been there for a long time. My Dad and Uncle are from Blackwater Virginia maybe you can go there some time.
My grand parenta lived in fort Blackmore va hob- nob was my dads favorite place to eat at I have a uncle that lives in Kingsport tenn my mom was born in big stone gap
