Yes that's the one. Don't do that route in October though, it will be too boggy in the middle sections. Needs a long dry spell. A lot of people combine Gatesgarth into a loop with Nan Bield Pass. That's a really good day but loads of hike a bike.

It can be a bit of a hard slog in the middle. Definitely one to do when (very) dry. The views, solitude and final descent make it worth it for me.

Hi Neil, no I've not. The main reason being that it is very steep on the Haweswater side and it would be a long push up to the top. I suspect the riding down the other side wouldn't be up to much either. Its not too bad in the other direction, and I have an old video on the channel doing the Corpse Road descending to Haweswater on a particularly wet day a few years ago.

@@Lakedistrictrider Yes, deffo. I rode across Green Quarter a few weeks ago & should have had waders on for that, so I'm saving that ride for drier days

Maybe annually. Not very often. Do you drag your brakes a lot?

@@Lakedistrictrider I have to, you see some of the descents I go down are 50 - 60% gradient over loose gravel, take your brakes off for 2 seconds and that is already too fast to be able to stop again safely. I have taken to walking down a few of them but where I live there are slopes and more slopes, can't walk down them all and as I said, a lot of the descending is too dangerous to take at speed. This segment is uphill but sometimes I go down it, in the middle the gradient is too severe and that is over loose gravel and dirt www.strava.com/segments/18351841

I'm not really an expert mate but I tend to use short sharp bursts of braking rather than having the brakes on for a long time. I don't do that from a wear perspective, I do that because I once cooked a set of brakes on a long descent to the point where they slmost completely fsiled. One of my most scary moments on a bike. I think that was more to do with the hydrolic fluid. Sorry prob not the best answer but, for me st least, short burst braking works better
