Many of you have asked would the GM24/25 help to smooth the rail-head and take off the scratches left by the Peco rubber and other things?
Well this video answers that question.

Cheers buddy, surprised by the results of this one. My preference is still lighter fuel and a felt pad but I've added in a rub over with this between films and the track looks remarkable 😁 who knew

Great update and very useful to know that it would help polish out scratches on existing track.

Thanks for these reviews, they are very helpful, years ago the Peco track rubbers were very smooth not like the gritty granite type supplied these days, I usedto have a OO garden railway where clean track is a challenge, a work colleague suggested a block printed circuit board cleaner supplied by CPC Farnell, I've used these for years as they polish the rail, in a similar way to the Gaugemaster you demonstrated, These are ideal especially these days as I have gone "retro" and use a lot of Triang series 3, and the great thing about these PCB rubbers is they don't remove the plating on the steel rail.

Excellent experiment! Thank you Mike and for the joint video on track cleaning. I have just ordered the Gaugemaster track rubber and some Contact cleaner! Very interested to see how well they both work. I am also going to try and bodge together a track cleaning wagon, using card as the rubber. Saw this at Pendon.

Thanks very much, you might try some Balsa wood, this is often suggested. Let me know how you get on

Really helpful Mike I haven’t been able to have a layout for 20 years and I’m about to approach the opportunity of having one soon So this looks like it’ll be on my shopping list to replace the very old peco one

I’m waiting to move home and will have things to do in the house first But eventually I will start on the railway I have a room dedicated for this purpose and to house my lifelong collection of railway stock , tools, paints, spares etc I can’t wait!

I'd use number 400 upwards wet and dry, then Autosol for scratches in metal.

Autosol?

@ModelRailwaysUnlimited It's crome/metal polish. It's like toothpaste, but a bit thicker, but it does come in a tube. Any car shop like Halfords would stock it. It's used in industry for polishing/cleaning tooling.

Another excellent piece of work, thank you. I know all the benefits, but being a curious kind of fellow, I wondered if the polished rail has any noticeable effect on traction over the scratched rail?

Maybe it's just my 70 years old eyes, but the rail now looks full of longitudinal scratches to me.
@ModelRailwaysUnlimited
@ModelRailwaysUnlimited 4 месяца назад
Thanks for your thoughts. To be fair the rail was tested longitudinally first before the cross scratches were caused, it might be you are seeing those appear or could just be the grain of the rail????

Why don't you just throw away the track rubbers and use a piece of balsa wood from the start??🤔

While that may work these videos are about the new Gaugemaster track rubbers.
