ADDITIONAL CODE! SJB-742 (Karate Fighter). Unfortunately, I discovered this code well after I made this video by going through the game code so it is not featured in the video. It has never been published before.
A video showcasing all of the playable characters in the arcade version of Gauntlet: Dark Legacy. This includes 8 standard characters, their 8 alter-egos plus 26 secret characters requiring a code. All codes are provided.
Note: GAM-666 has two different characters depending on the color. Because the code is the same, you cannot use these at the same time.

I started to understand that the Warrior, Valkyre, Archer and Wizard were the OG characters while Sorceress, Dwarf, Knight and Jester were new additions

You should look up a study on the human eye. Apparently back then, we all saw video game graphics then the same we see modern games today; Gauntlet looked beautiful. As one man once said, "The human eye can distinguish between real humans, and fake humans... why?"

Gauntlet has come a long way over the years since the OG Red Warrior, Blue Valkyrie, Yellow Wizard, and Green Elf. Here are my favorite versions of each: - Blue Sorceress - Green Jester (my main!) - Blue Warrior - Blue Valkyrie - Yellow Wizard - Green Elf - Red Dwarf - Blue Knight Of the alternates, I love Medusa (Sorceress), and I prefer the Minotaur (Warrior), Falconess (Valkyrie), and Jackal (Wizard) over the originals. Of the secrets, I like the Evil Wizard, Orc Samurai, Pharaoh, and of course Sumner himself.

When I used to play it in the arcades back in the day, I could only get EGG911 to work. Makes sense now that I see that they're associated with characters/colors.

Yeah, I don't think any of the code sites listed the specific characters so I had to go through each one. I've since updated gamefaqs as well.

@@TekoMuto Unfortunately, I didn't get closure on it. The console version had a character DARTHC that I can't translate to the arcade format. It's possible it was added when they ported it but I have no way of knowing.

@@DarthMarino Just tried it on Dolphin Emulator. Can confirm it works. Black knight with a mask and katana. It takes the Knight (I think Green)

Here are my favorites 1. Blue and green sorceress 2. Blue and green jester 3. Yellow and red warrior 4. Red and blue Valkyrie 5. The wizard in all four colors 6. Green and red elven ranger 7. Yellow and red dwarven barbarian 8. Red and blue knight My personal favorites are the wizard, Valkyrie, elf, dwarf, knight and jester. Also I do hope that Gauntlet Dark Legacy gets a remake someday for the Nintendo switch and PlayStation 5.

There are tons more characters in the gamecube version, and they auto-unlock upon entering in the name. The different versions of garm there are GAM-333 and GAM-666, since the arcade codes are the same. Also, the "waitress" is also often listed as "race queen", since its base character is male.

What other characters are in the Cube version? I only know of one: DARTHC. I actually found another code after this video (SJB - 742 with Blue Knight) that I've never seen published though I didn't try on Gamecube. It's a guy in a Karate outfit.

Waitress is based on a male model because they are a male. I believe the dev (I think is Don Livingston) dressed a waitress for Halloween or something and this is a reference to that, I know some of the dev skins are based on a Halloween party they had during production.

@@DarthMarino DARTHC is not present in arcade because IIRC, Charlies Darth Ybarra, did not test run the arcade and only the console. (He was a beta tester). Also SJB742 is Sean Gugler, sound man. He did work on the arcade release so I would believe the skin is in this build, but I have not tested myself.

I remember when i play this game for the first time i just laugh at how the loin cloth got longer, dont know whg i found it funny. it a classic hidden game gem. Lot of grinding. More fun to play with a friend.

Not a lot of people know this, but the secret characters (expect the generals and other game characters) are supposed to represent the devs, or at least characters they designed for themselves. I could go through and tell you who is who, but eh. Also, the nude Valkyrie model is in the game files of console and can be used with a cheat code. There is also another model of the warrior with white eyes, but I cannot get it working at the moment, he might have an arcade code, but If so, I haven't found it, and apparently you didn't either.

After I made the video I found out a way to look through the game code. I was able to discover SJB-742 with blue knight (Karate Fighter) that I never saw listed anywhere but nothing else beyond what's here.

@@DarthMarino So I'm going to assume you didn't find the alternative red warrior. Must be a console thing. I haven't dug through arcade the same way, so I wouldn't know. Very interesting.

@@jeshandzac No, I just went through the initials I found in the code and that was the only one that had a new character. You can decompress the hard drive and have a look with a hex editor. I also found SJB-964 which basically has everything unlocked. I don't know if that's in every game or Steve Bennett was the one who submitted the hard drive that MAME uses so it was on there. SJB-284 does the same on Legends plus I found Key-434 in that game which just has all the keys found.

@@DarthMarino Well Bennett's character (SJB) is on the console version but does not contain everything unlocked, that was given to the unlockable Sumner character. So my guess is Bennett used his character to make sure everything worked okay. Most of my digging was on a decompressed WAD of the PS2 copy with a model viewer. So I'll keep looking. The leaked 0.137 build of console PS2 actually contains a lot of arcade elements. If I remember correctly, Bennett's character does indeed contain everything unlocked like the arcade on that build.

This is the arcade version ran through MAME. I typically run it in standard resolution as it runs the best and believe I captured the images that way. You can change the resolution to Medium or VGA which will be slightly higher resolution than what I have here. Oddly, the medium seems to look the best even though VGA is technically higher.

The reason why the Elf didn't appeared and was replaced by an archer, it is because something about sexually ambiguous something according to the Gauntlet developers.
