This is a great video! I wrote the majority of the Book of Bennetts! Really glad you brought that up.😂 If you ever decide to do a video just on Lore, or the Book of Bennetts in any way, I'm happy to help ❤ Regarding the Devs' opinion on the "Developer Gods theory", when I asked KJ Holm if he could get behind it he said "Maybe, I could probably get behind that" Growing up on a train car, Gauntlet Dark Legacy was really my only "me time". As a kid I had no Internet access and Gauntlet was really my only time to get away. Even still, I often find myself using it as a type of meditation I suppose. If I have a problem in need of solution, or just had a rough day, I'd play Gauntlet, it refreshed my mood, more so than any other game. I agree with almost every point you made. One thing I'll say is you actually get more XP if you use a character "properly" Warrior and Dwarf get more XP from Melee kills, and Archer and Jester get more XP from ranged attacks. Wizard and Sorcereress get more from magic kills, and Knight and Valkyrie are even all around.
Appreciate it! I will be doing a video on the G:DL Remaster next so I will definitely take you up on that! That’s quite a story too. It’s crazy how many people I’ve talked to that feel the same about Dark Legacy. It holds a special place for all of us 😄
Absolutely fantastic video!! I completely agree with you on the amount of pure nostalgia this game brings me. Definitely the most nostalgia game of all time for me
Dashing/charging can stagger generals. Also, dashing mid atk can quick stop the animation and essentially give you rapid fire if you get good at the timing. You can also use heavy atk to make a golem block, ensuring he’ll be open for a well timed super atk. Hard mode increases the range of mob projectiles I believe. They shoot off screen. For me, I only use shop after beating a boss. Otherwise it’s too easy restocking between levels. And if I’m playing multiplayer I try to encourage friendly fire mode. It’s what makes team supers so useful. Lastly I use robotron controls for twin-stick shooting and easier rapid-fire glitch.
Hey, excellent video! As a 00's kid, this game was the coolest one ever on my GameCube. I fondly remember printing out cheat codes with my cousins in 2006 to mess around with this game. I even have a jester tattoo on my thigh!
I, too, listen to the soundtrack on occasion! I also learned how to play the Ghost Town's piano song. I've been a Gauntlet fan since I played the original I and II on the NES with my dad. Dark Legacy's overall theme, art, colors, music, lore, and characters all pull me in whenever I think about the game. I even added some of its elements to a custom DnD campaign! I've been thinking about replaying it someday. My max level Green Jester has had enough action.
I believe that is a map made by the Dark Legacy remaster developer that is in charge of further developing lore and backstory. So it’s not necessarily a map of the original Dark Legacy, but it is a representation of the remaster’s map/game world, which is further expanding on the original game’s backstory and world.
It is getting a remake, actually. In fact, he mentions that very project at the 11:45 mark. But, yes, there is indeed a fan made remake in the works, but sadly there are not a whole lot of RU-vid videos covering this topic. Last I checked there are two or three videos pertaining to the development and the game test demo.
