Oh Gavin, So profound and full of wisdom that we need to hear. Your recounting of the KGB encounter brought me to tears. Yet you remained staunch. You speak the truth, with love, charity and humbleness. Our Roman Catholic faith is a treasure that we must hold to despite the difficulties of attending a Traditional Mass and confession. In New Zealand we rely on the SSPX priests, of whom there are only 4 for the all of the country. Masses are held in homes, so it feels like the underground church is here already. My husband and I discovered Catholic Unscripted recently and eagerly await each new episode. Grateful thanks to you, Catherine and others who speak the Catholic truth with courage and fearlessness.

Gavin, I am still pondering what your message would be if you had been the Pope and addressing the Muslims in Jakarta as it was so profound and loving in its simplicity! It has made me recall JPII in Poland way back in the late 70's when he delivered his Gospel message, enlivening the crowds to a rousing 15 minute chant of "WE WANT GOD!" Out of this was born Solidarnosc- the Solidarity movement which ultimately brought down the Iron Curtain. Believing Christians must work towards this solidarity as you have suggested in gathering at War Memorials and singing until we have throngs gathered who come to realize, we, too want God! This was magnificent and inspiring-one of the best offerings from Catholic Unscripted. I have heard Gavin mention in passing his experience with the KGB but I always wanted to listen to the full story. His example and that of Alexander Ogorodnikov make me ashamed of my own pitiful efforts to push back against repression, which have consisted of no more than liking videos and passing on a few quid.

God bless you Dr. Ashenden. Our Lord has rewarded you with conversion to the one Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. Christ is king.

I pray for that strength of faith. When I was a teen in the late 1970s, Soviet ships would dock at the port where they loaded grain, beans, and other food products. The foreign sailors were permitted to come ashore as far as US customs and immigration was concerned, barring any individual prohibition (such as having a criminal record on file). We often encountered sailors from Germany and other countries that conducted trade with the US. But not the Soviet sailors. US customs would have permitted them to come ashore, but their chief mate didn't allow anyone to leave the ship. One of my classmates had an uncle who worked for US customs and immigration, and he really took pity on the Soviet sailors because they were often on the ship for months at a time without being allowed to go ashore anywhere. They didn't really sail to other Communist countries that were allied with the USSR, because no communist country had much if anything to trade with each other. So my classmate's uncle would arrange for his nephew and other high school teens to go aboard Soviet vessels for a couple hours to play card games. It was just to allow some recreation respite, and to see new faces. The chief mate had to be a member of the Communist Party, and he was strict about watching over our interactions. We didn't speak each other's languages, but we weren't permitted to have conversations anyway. It was strictly card games. I couldn't live under a system like that, where you can't even discuss the weather, let alone encourage one another to be faithful to God. A lot of Americans don't want to hear it. They roll their eyes and deny that anything like that could ever happen here, but by the way speak right or shut up. Those are the ones to watch out for. Anyone in denial is one who would go along to get along, and tends to have enough bitterness and hunger for control over others that they'll turn their neighbors in on false pretenses just to get their neighbor's apartment.

In Poland during the Soviet era, a priest named Father Jerzy Popiełuszko was famous for standing up for the civilians and for fighting for human rights. The KGB stopped his car at night, beat him up until he was unconscious, tied him up inside of a suitcase and threw the suitcase into a river with him inside (still alive). The Polish anti-communist movement Solidarność (from which the breakup of the Soviet Union began) adopted him as a NATIONAL symbol of human rights, hope and freedom. The ENTIRE nation mourned his tragic death.

Presently, I live in the Panhandle of Texas and speak with local people about the terrors indemic to totalitarianism. Precious few can begin to comprehend such. In 2000 I stood outside the church with our priest and a young convert and saying, In twenty years we will be persecuted, I was not far wrong. And looking back to the Millennial celebrations, were they not a back handed insult to our faith?

I think that story about the prisoners puts strength and meaning into the phrase "God be with you"

I, too, as a former Anglican priest became a Catholic and I was ordained a Catholic priest in 1995. While still an Anglican I had taken in interest in the work of Keaton College headed up by the Rev'd Michael Bordeaux. I would write letters to various prisons letting them know that I knew the names of some of their prisoners. About Alexander Ogorodnikov I was told that he was brought up atheist by his parents who were staunch supporters of the regime. Alexander went as a post grad student to the University of Moscow to study cinematography. As part of his course he was able to see certain movies which could not be shown publicly. He was interested in a movie made by an Italian Marxist Passolini, The Gospel According to Matthew. He began visiting Orthodox Churches. He showed the movie to some of his friends thereby breaking the law. He did this because he became fascinated by the Jesus character in the movie even though the movie dealt with Jesus in a decidedly Marxist fashion. I saw that movie in Adelaide, South Australia. At about that time or soon after I met Michael Bordeaux in Adelaide. I was told that Alexander had formed a study group, with others, called the Christian Seminar. Thereafter he was arrested and sent to prison where he was treated brutally. When he came out of prison he was in bad health due to the way he had been treated. I used to write letters to him in prison. I knew he would never get these letters but it did alert the authorities that we knew he was in prison, where, and that he was not well. I do not know if I have remembered everything accurately. I am now 81 years old and my memory isn't what it used to be. But looking back I am glad I was so involved in supporting prisoners of conscience in the old USSR, a country which I had visited and had personal experience of the way that society persecuted their own people. I am glad to say I never encountered the unwanted attention of the KGB. Congratulations on this video. It has brought back memories for me of a man, Alexander Ogorodikov, who I had always so much admired for his steadfastness in holding to the Christian Faith. Gavin, I am a retired ordained Anglican cleric, exile from the woke and apostate C of E, persecuted by senior diocesan staff and an RAF Chaplain veteran. I think the persecution in the UK is a Satanic alliance of Islam and Socialism - not socialism alone. Please may I also share my genuine unembellished account and experience? In December 1998 while serving at RAF Linton-on-Ouse, I received 14 days notice of deployment to Saudi Arabia for Op Desert Fox, an action that took place against Iraq between the two Gulf wars. Because Saudi would not allow Christian clergy into their country ( how ironic ) in those 14 days I had to change everything that identified me as a cleric. Photos and titles on everything I would take in: Passport; bank card; credit card; UK driving licence; international driving licence. The RAF even issued me with an amended duplicate ID card so as to enable my ingress into the country. I then had to devise a plan to smuggle Bibles, prayer books, Christian literature, Robes, Communion kit into that Islamic tyranny. Double jeapordy for smuggling alcoholic communion wine. I will not go into public detail as to how I achieved this, but I managed to do so despite the customs search on station - Prince Sultan Air Base. I then proceeded to give ministry to believers all over Saudi, being careful to ensure there was privacy and evading the car searches of the Saudi paramilitry police. Each time I was stopped to be searched, I prayed the brother Andrew prayer: "O Lord who made blund eyes to see, please make these seing eyes blind. I was also able to give ministry to the embassy on a Friday - the only reasonably safe place in Saudi - where civilian Christians might worship, along with the US embassy. Strangely the Saudis allowed our own internal facilities for worship on camp. I lived meeting the Indian Christians working there. They literally met for worship, underground. You were not allowed any expression of the Christian faith in public, off station. Of course I broke that law but there was a real risk involved in that and all of this. The toughest time I had though, was from my declared atheist detachment commander, who when he took over stated privately to me that he saw no role for a chaplain on hus detachment. In the end it was he, not the Saudis, who got rid of me after some time. Saran is using a two pronged atrack to dismantle what is left of Christian civilisation. SStarmer and Co's atheistic Marxism and Islam. They are working hand in hand. I have experienced this myself. I fully agree with your analysis.

Being encouraged to be spiritual, is a useful help. Not forgetting we live in a political world where we can take action against these dark forces that change shape, where Islam appears to be a religious movement, only to become political at will. The west is seduced by the obedience that Islam brings, obedience is the submission demanded by Islam and offered to political parties. Islam is a minority experience, British values and culture are based on Christian values. The UK is still a Christian country and people are stirring to the implementation of sharia, manifest in two tier policing and judicial system. There is a movement coming, the majority will sign the pledge to value our Christian heritage.

It's correct to focus upon the anti-Christian narritive of the Regime, but just as importantly, there's an undeniable antiwhite narritive throughout every aspect of society, even the church has been infected with antiwhiteism.

I read a book the Lord of the world my father Robert Hugh Benson recommended by Pope Francis and Benedict the 16th and it’s a fictional book About the coming of the beast, but he comes as a Messiah ending wars and famine and uniting all religions under one banner and all countries under one banner except for the Catholic Church that cannot change because of the Latin rite And so Catholics are persecuted and killed and in the final moments the pope and a few remaining bishops hiding in Jerusalem as they await death they see light coming from the east a chorus of angels singing I believe this is the reason Vatican 2 came into being so the church could go back to the beginning and start again change with the times the church was persecuted and we will see it again Reminded of a book Finnegan’s wake and rebirth of man, Finn again
