You are very well spoken and seem quite sincere. The habitual mistake you are making in your thinking (at least as expressed here) involves the concept that Jesus is found only in the Mass of the Church of Rome. This is just transparently false. There are many good, salvific things about the Roman Catholic Church, but the underlying principle that it is the highest, truest expression of Christianity and that anything else is some degree of Christianity-lite, or perhaps not even really Christianity at all, is profoundly mistaken.

The minute a political party starts espousing religious values we’re in trouble. It doesn’t matter whether it’s our values or not. It will have bad end. Biden is right. He believes life starts at conception, he is unequivocal about it ( which means he’d never ask anyone to have an abortion voluntarily), but people should have the choice. So he has to fight for the choice regardless of his beliefs. Life is more complicated for some than we can imagine.

I became aware of Tommy Robinson around nine months ago, like the young lady I had heard his name on the odd occasion I had caught the news and saw that he had gone to prison for the fifth or whatever it was time for this that or the other. So I knew very little about him. It was Mayher Tousi the independent journalist who brought Tommy to my attention, when he was arrested whilst having breakfast in a cafe in central London prior to the pro Israel march after the appalling Hamas attack on Israel on October the 7th last year. Twenty plus police officers to arrest one man who was doing nothing to warrant being arrested, and his subsequent horrific treatment by metropolitan police officers including being pepper sprayed in the eyes at a range of about six inched belied belief. And this was all recorded and was shown by Mayher Tousi on his RU-vid channel Tousi TV. I then after this watched for about two weeks all of the available videos I could find on Tommy Robinson and became convinced of his honesty in telling the truth about what was happening around many towns and cities by these grooming gangs , drugging and raping young white underaged girls. He seems completely sincere in his fight against these people and as a father of I think two girls and a boy. I can't think of any decent father that wouldn't put their life on the line to prevent something like the grooming and rape of your daughter or daughters. I think he is a true British patriot on top of his crusade against Pakistani radical Islamist drugs and grooming gangs which are all intermingled together according to Tommy. Something the police are aware of, but will not challenge.

As a feminist who is also a Catholic, I would have some questions in my mind about how Gavin in this piece understands feminism. Feminists differ among themselves on many things; it's not one big monolith. It's somewhat intellectually lazy to present it as such. And as a feminist (i.e. a person who believes in the equal dignity of women), I would feel that the Church might wish to consider the feelings of the many women out there who have been sexually assaulted in their lives, and what it says to them that this individual is being given a platform so soon in his journey. Time will tell if his conversion is genuine, and I think it would be more appropriate if he had extensive spiritual counsel prior to using his conversion to gain public traction. By the way, Bishop Barron is entitled to speak to whoever he wants. However, many people within the Catholic Church might wonder a little about this, and with some justification, in the context of what the Church has itself dealt with in the last few years. It all just seems a bit premature to me, feminism or no feminism.

It has to be said that the parable of the rich man trying to get to Heaven was a complete non sequitur in the context of that Peterson interview. The rich man was seeking his own salvation. Robinson was seeking to save others and was regardless of his own fate. That is a more Christian act than 99% of self-styled Christians will ever do.

Jonathan does an excellent job of pointing out the sense of 'clarity' we often experience when someone comes out and speaks in words we are 'familiar with, ' can erroniously pass for understanding when in fact, if we are challenged to unpacked these words, we discover we don't actually know what these much touted phrases actually mean. Whether, we agree with Jordan's conclusions around this essential meaning or not, he does challenge us to think, and not merely nod our head in knee jerk agreement.

I wonder what CU thinks of Chesterton and Divine Mercy academies which are springing up all over the U.S. *** The issue of creating a loophole on employment and college applications and financial aid forms is a real problem. Once people catch on, there are those who will put anything down. After all, Senator Elizabeth Warren said she was Native American. Essentially, she was not. But it sure worked for her, and she was able to get a job at Harvard. In the U.S., we have to sign off on all these checklists and labels. The devil uses partial truths to create divisions. We really need God to help us in this crazy world.

I agree with Mark about Catechesis, about formation. That is one of the major roots of the problem with Catholics not having reverence or belief in the real presence. Catholics don’t know what they don’t know. How can formation be better? How can priests use the pulpit in a better way to educate parishioners and encourage them to go deeper? (BTW, teachers have similar problems in having to entertain students who are not prepared to learn and need to be entertained.)

Unfortunately, Gavin, Jordan has, of course after long and due questoning, -he wouldn't dare not too, would he now?- defined himself as " situated on the borders", meaning he's not in AND not out, I suppose. The trouble is he did not define himself well thus, he only confessed his public comfortzone. Oh, and yes, as a headmaster, he should do his lesson over on limits, reading just through the beginnings of Hegel's Phenomenology to correct this silly pretention...of stability, as in the Phenomenology he would experience intelectually -and that what he is ALWAYS after, isn't he?- that no limits are ever as stable to define oneself by. I lament this irritated critical tone, cos I love Jordan Peterson, but boy can the man get on my nerves sometimes. Sorry for that, but I don't even have a cat to say it to, so, please, bear with me in this.

Jordan leaping in, talking far too long afterwards, and loosing a great opportunity to listen. After 7 years of worldly rise -and thank God for all the good that came from it- even if he is aware of his character flaws, and doesn't pretend to be who he's not, really doesn't see that he has probably been missing out on a lot, because of his strange need to behave all the time as the always corrective headmaster of a school. Does he never look at videos of himself and se the opportunities missed from this apparently undominable need to...well yes, I am afraid, to dominate. I am not judging this fenomenal master, I am flabbergasted that with his psy-knowledge, his selfanalysis, his good will and genuineness, he can' get a grip on this unbeatable need to persist in this conatus of his, his need to be Jordan Peterson, the headmaster who must speak cos he still does all his lessons well. Some same thing could surely be said of me, but then I am not JB P and thus who cares. ButJB P looses frequently significant chances, or moments of kairos. Gavin knows him personally: is there no chance of sorts anyone might help mighty Jordan? Some goodhearted jester of the king?

Eh, maybe give him some slack. What a great professor he was! And dealing with young people, many of whom were probably half asleep. With all that’s out there (of his talks), he does amazingly well in listening to many people who reflect a broad range of ideas, backgrounds, and perspectives, and he really listens and thinks about what they say. Like, maybe give him a break, as EM is not a titillating speaker. I will say I saw him with Dr. Phil, and it was so funny to me. JP sounded way too verbose next to Dr. Phil. Phil McGraw is a gifted listener and communicator, and as a Texan, he was nonplussed by all the heady ideas-he just said things so simply. Never could there be 2 psychologists with such varied styles!

Re state of the Church and hedonism, Bishop Sheen seemed to predict a lot of what is happening in the Church today. He said the Church would get smaller, but holier, and that lay people would save the Church.*** I watched a good deal of the interview between JP and EM. I agree that JP seemed a bit excited (who wouldn’t?), but bottom line, they’re both amazing people. Way differently gifted, though. It showed how dynamics change depending on who JP speaks with. (So, yes, a little boring. I always get the impression EM would rather be working on his next great invention than doing some interview, but he was sweetly polite and indulgent.) Also, EM obviously asks questions on his own, all the time, as he is a creative genius, but looking at one snapshot between 2 people can’t convey everything. I’ve seen EM many times-I think he’s tough to interview for what we’re used to seeing on television/streaming entertainment. *** JP knows his wife was ultimately saved by a miracle and not by diet. (I’ve watched him speak about this a lot.) Re diet, several doctors from major institutions have done studies on healing metabolic disorders, mental health issues, and auto immune diseases through diet (low/no carb), and it’s not crazy. The Petersons have been physically helped by diet, period. The Rosary, Catholic Church, and, of course, Jesus Christ have helped save their souls. They are the Accidental Evangelists. *** EM was gracious. JP seemed anxious to engage EM through his usual style, but EM is never ever as verbally precocious as JP. JP was trying, though!

The Last Supper and the Masses which followed were in the language of the people and contemporary. It seems liturgical music makes a difference to some. In the U.S. parishes vary music accompaniment in Masses offered at different hours. Of course, latitude would be restricted where Mass is celebrated only once. From the perspective of a modernist, the TLM may be looked upon as "entertainment."

Thank you for raising the issue of the Mass Laser Tag at St Mark's Catholic Church in Ipswich UK. I attended Mass at Holy Family Brantham in April 2024 when visiting relatives at Manningtree nearby. Holy Family is attached to St Mark's Parish where my tolerance levels were tested. I entered the church for Sunday Mass and was shocked by members of the small aged congregation walked around having loud conversations talking about their physical ailments and chatting with the latest news as if in a social hall. They rushed about too and fro as if mingling in a party. The priest walked in from his car with a card board box similar to those apples are shipped in. It had no lid. Inside was a ciborium with consecrated hosts. He walked up the aisle with the box and took the ciborium out resting the box on the altar, and placed the ciborium into the empty tabernacle. Yes he genuflected. No one else did. The hymns were like an episode of South Park in which they formed a Christian boy band which sang love songs with "Jesus" used to replace "girl". Other hymns sounded like circus music. My skin crawled at the obvious banality and dissonance which seemed to unnoticed by those there. I was shocked this older congregation, who had a memory of the reverence of the past were so casual and desacralised. The sign of peace degenerated into another run around and was annoying. I tried not shake hands but was obliged too so as not to look grumpy. With a congregation of less than twenty we still had laywomen take part in distributing Holy Communion. My relatives who are disillusioned member of the C of E remarked it was "like a Anglican service" to which I replied "exactly that is the problem". I was thinking of giving some feedback in an email but I lacked the courage. In England shallow politeness is a practiced to the point of being a vice. My relatives saw I was disappointed. The next Sunday they searched for a TLM nearby which was in a beautiful country estate chapel. There were families with children and a normal range of age groups at Mass. The congregation were reverent and focused on the Mass My relatives were moved by the sacrality of the low Mass and I thought it the real thing...God focused and ancient...not a children's game. Fr Luke Goymour at St Mark's where the Laser tag is planed is not a bad man or priest.I think he is a reasonable man but I was not sure if his congregation from the 1970"s broke him to fit in with them. I think he is clutching at straws. I found him to be polite and not an odd ball. He has just lost his bearings. There is no doubt the parishes are in trouble... it's the design of the church buildings, the ugliness of the interiors and banality of a neo Protestant liturgy but also a sloppy casual culture that has developed. As the priest was processing out the end of the Mass someone called out from the pew telling everyone it was a couples wedding anniversary. God bless them...but the round of clapping and cheering was again out if place. I would have asked them to stay after Mass and given them a blessing. Better to inform the priest beforehand. The liturgy isn't bingo in the village hall...Brantham has no village hall and the church looks like one!

Surprised you did not include a spattering of attendees saying the rosary during the Mass as they did when all Masses were in Latin and the smaller number of people who received the host, I suppose, out of the idea that the priest's reception sufficed.
