Over the time we have been making our videos we have recieved many questions about how and why we adopted. To date, we have not directly answered these. This was because we really wanted to tell the story as a whole..not in pieces, and because we want to do the topic justice. This will still have to be a multi part story...but at least it will have the benefit of context.
Part two of our adoption series talks about the steps you must take to get qualified to adopt children in California. Everything from Background checks, Personal profiles, Financial Checks, Health Records, Home Studies. Pretty much all the hoops you must jump thru to get qualified to adopt children in the state Of California.

One of the hardest parts of adoption is finding an agency that has worked with gay couples before. We have tried to help in that search on our website by adding a list of gay friendly adoption agencies.

Excellent video. Wow there were so many components of the adoption process that I had no idea about or never imagined. The profiling, the safety regulations, the advocates, etc. was all eye opening info. It is very comforting to know that these safeguards are in place. Even if one doesn't adopt but has kids one could learn a lot from the adoption agencies

Thank you so much for making these videos. My partner and I just became engaged and really want to adopt children after we get married. This was a huge help in knowing what to expect and what we can work on now to help with the process. You and your family are a great inspiration to so many people. These videos are amazing. Even though i have no plans of adopting anytime soon, and even though i don't live in the US, so the adoption process would probably be quite different, i find your story of adopting fascinating. I'm certain the information you convey in them will be useful to many people. But, more importantly, the spirit that spews :0) from them is very encouraging.

LOL, "Dungeon with a sling".We can totally relate. We just completed our homestudy and will send it to our agency soon. We are going the private route. You are right, it is a long tough and sometimes expensive process and now we are just hoping to be matched. We will definitely consider the foster path if this does not work. We are in Texas and hoping for a california birth. Great video guys. We are over the first big wall, now we are in wait and see mode. Our social worker is GLBT friendly too.

You guys mentioned adopting kids with HIV & AIDS, that brought back memories of my buddy days... I thought i could be a buddy to a kid, but after meeting some, i just couldnt handle seeing them deal with it, I was too emotional. Many of us couldnt deal. So I have to give major props to anyone who can adopt kids with health problems. You better do some serious soul searching before considering one of these kids, you dont want to do more harm than good.

Thanks for your guidance. I've just started application for fostering a child or siblings and had the first assessment today which went very well. I'm a gay single male in the UK and I am very excited about the open views on fostering as a gay male now. Wish me luck xo

These videos are incredible and so helpful! I've always wanted to adopt and knew nothing of the real process. Being lesbian, I've always worried how that may affect the adoption journey for myself, your story helps me to see realistically how the process may be for me. This is why gay parents and people who cant have children naturally, become better people and better parent because they take the time to know things, research and be the people that they are suppose to be and then have children and expand there family. thank you for this... still looking for love :D

i so agree that the social worker is everything ours is so great she makes us feel like we are her kids,/ friends we love her and as a lesbian at a Lutheran adoption service we where scared foing in but we had a gay partner set in are class and we had a single gay father as our guest speaker we love our caseworkers and we are in Pennsylvania with about the same things you have to do

@ bilong92, a lot of kids who are up for adoption come from broken or abusive home lives, and need to have a huge amount of time & effort put in to give them a chance at a good future. Other children are in state care because they have disabilities which their biological parents are unable to cope with, such as Autism, Foetal Alcohol Syndrome and Angelman Syndrome. Because they are so physically &/or emotionally vulnerable, making sure their adoptive parents are suitable is a top priority.

I find it a bit unsettling that adults wishing to adopt have to go through such a lengthly process to do so and yet when those who can just have kids do so they have such fewer problems from other people.

Another great video, guys! Do you happen to know about age limits on adoption? My parter just turned 40 and it will be a few years before we can seriously go about adopting. Also, about how much money was involved in the whole process? You mentioned some fees, but were there anything else?

I do hate it that people who don't deserve to raise kids pop out kid after kid while it is a major case for loving families like yours to share your love. I love my sister, but her ex isn't worthy to be a father and if it hadn't been for my parents, neither my niece or nephew would have even a chance in this world.

Thank you so much for these videos. I'm looking into my options for adoption but wasn't sure about if an agency would discriminate against someone (gay or not) with a mental disorder, nothing too serious just Aspergers, and possibly past periods of stress induced depression? I'm Australian so the process is probably a little different, but I was wondering if you came up against anything like that when being screened?

@MaryWaterton Just think. That priest, or priests like him, probably grew up in a strongly catholic home. He hits puberty, and starts to feel a natural attraction towards the same sex. In order to avoid being shunned and hated by his entire family and community, who like you spread hate and lies about homosexuals. he then becomes a priest, so he won't even have to address the question of his sexuality.

Why should they have to? That would be forcing them to be with someone they didn't love, for one thing, to "make a family." (while I'm sure they would love their children) But an adoptive family is just as good as a any other (although your opinion seems to be that it isn't, in which case you still have to see that it's better than nothing and there are SO MANY kids with nothing!) So what's wrong with a loving gay couple adopting? It's not ideal. But its a world of difference for those kids.

"They liked the kiss last time",,,,LOL,,,that was so cute :-) There are many parents who are not capable to raise children, and many children who have been abused. I think all couples who are planning to have children biologically should go through the same process.

You guys see rosie odonnels gay cruise show / movie on cable? mostly all gay fams. there was a gay couple who adopted like 8 kids, an adorable adopted 10 y/o boy kept asking when they were gonna get married... they got married on the ship. 1 LIFE

doing a paper on the advocating of same sex foster parenting and adoption - I am interested in your comment about being HIV positive and wanting to adopt HIV positive children - is there a case in particular that you know of that I could include?

@77winkleman So basically you're saying that it's this family's fault that other children are raised as ignorant twits? Love isn't enough to ensure a child's happiness, but confidence with themselves is. Kids will give other kids shit about anything, from their parents being gay, interracial, poor, fat, old, but kids who are secure with themselves and know they are loved learn to roll with the metaphorical punches. And they turn out just fine.

Yeah. In a perfect world, every kid would live with their mom and dad in their perfect, picket-fence house with 1.4 siblings and a dog, and they would never have to worry about bullies or food or wonder if anyone would love them. But this isn't a perfect world, and those straight couples you idolize abandon kids every day and kids lose their parents to all sorts of tragedies. Those children deserve a home, even if it's not "perfect." Depfox is proof that a gay couple can raise a GREAT family.

Just because your kids are honor students doesn't mean they're gonna grow up to be balanced / well rounded. Its nice to have smart kids but remember, B and C students run the world.

I think that people who are having babies naturally should have to go through the same type of ordeal like being CPR certified and having their home inspected.

I find it ironic how adoptive parents have to go through all of those obstacles to test how good their parenting skills are... while biological parents can make as many babies as they want without a question.

Also, let me explain the very complicated emotion you are calling willingness. What you're implying is that gay people SHOULD be willing to deny their own sexual and romantic identity in order to form a family. But you can see tens of thousands of these stories - where a gay person denied it and made a family. It goes beyond "not working out" - those relationships usually have enormously negative psychological effects on both people. Please go research them before you suggest that as an option.

This is a warped and perverse business and I pray it will stop. (Don't get me wrong, God loves love, we just must know the right context. Those who simply assert that love is great in any context are clearly analytically flawed: for example, you couldn't say erotic love was good between a mother and son).
