@@grayhacer Yep. I’ve seen vids where people do the transition. Lightning is still unchanged because of the fact that 8DX uses baked lighting since it’s a port from MK8. Even Headlights don’t appear at all and I don’t know if it would be able to turn on because of the skybox

@@burnt-potatoes it's a item. I'm assuming that almost every MK game does that different lighting. Dynamic lighting and the lighting shock have are not the same engines, I believe

Probably not... From what I heard, the Wii U and Switch versions of 8 have a lighting engine that uses "baked lighting", which means that shadows and colors will remain the same throughout the course, and while you can change the skybox, it won't change the colors or shadow placements. In the case of Wii Coconut Mall, the cars had code for moving that wasn't implemented on time, but got fixed in Wave 2. I don't think the issue with GBA Sunset Wilds can be fixed as easily... If I were to come up with a solution, I would say to go the Animal Crossing route and give 3 versions of the course with different skyboxes, colors, and shadows that can be accessed with pressing one of the triggers on the controller (And then inverse the code in Mirror Mode, just like Animal Crossing 😂).

It makes me feel of Coconut Mall in Wave 1, fans were like "ThE cArS aRe NoT mOvInG" so the Nintendevs changed it in Wave 2. They can still do the same that in Wave 6.

@@user-kp6uv8gv2tNo, not really. Nintendo didn't do it on purpose, they were trying to do it but the lighting engine can't change for a night transition track. Literally the lighting of whole track, characters and the shadows is basically the same. Headlights are not even present at all but I'm not sure if it can change because of the skybox. When will people stop blaming Nintendo and start blaming the lighting engine... 💀💀💀

Yes, the skybox can be changed mid-race, but the lighting itself cannot. Mario Kart 8 (Deluxe)’s engine utilizes Baked Lighting, meaning that the lighting of a track is loaded in once the track is loaded and is thus static. Compare this to Dynamic Lighting, where the lighting changes. The former is much less costly on the processing of the engine itself, and Mario Kart 8 was trying to tackle both looking more realistic and “pretty” while being on a system as notoriously underpowered as the Wii U. If dynamic lighting was used, the game would likely undergo framerate drops due to the engine having difficulty processing everything. Mario Kart Tour uses Dynamic Lighting, both because the engine it runs on allows it and that the game is using less processing power thanks to the much more simple level geometry and graphic fidelity. In the example you provided, if you look at the characters and track itself in the video as the skybox changes in that video, their colors and shadows don’t change. It results in the sky becoming dark but the characters and track don’t.

@@anankos795 but all baked lighting is is just a texture, as far as i'm aware. surely nintendo could've rebaked the lighting for the night version and simply faded between the two textures, right? this feels like a really simple/obvious solution, so if i'm missing something, please let me know
