I think in Vikings it is actually a song at a funeral. I also love it, when Dan harmonizes with himself, it shows again what an incredible artist he is.
Well I have to say that this is one of my favs. But everyone is entitled to their own opinion for sure. If Dan was one of the Vikings pillaging my village, I would put a welcome mat outside of my unlocked door. Lol Hope you totally heal up this weekend. VASCNATION RULES!❤️
I never watched the show, but I like what he did with this. It’s essentially a fragment of a traditional song, arranged a bunch of different ways and in several stunning vocal registers. Who else would envision that, and then bring it about? It’s fun. Thanks for your thoughts!
There are LOTS of singers & groups who do essentially the same thing with this song, that has been around for a long time. Home Free does it, along with several other sea shanties. Colm McGuinness does a GREAT arrangement of it. Jonathan Young does it, as well, plus he, Colm, and SKAR do a version of it together. Peyton Parrish is another. Then there are Voice Play, SKAR on his own, The Hound + the Fox, with Adam Chance, Jared Hailey, Halfdan, and many more. It's VERY popular, and it's done in many different ways, with LOTS of layering going on with most of them.
Love this one too... very different.... but love it. ❤ He can sing anything... he's more of a rounded singer, performer, musician, writer, than so, so many others... been avid fan of Disturbed for years.. like Dan's cover of theirs better... don't tell David tho lol Thanks you for your honest opinion... ❤

It's my understanding that this is an actual Nordic folk song. I heard a lady on RU-vid sing it in the original language. Hew ("cut down") many foe men ("many enemies"). Not my #1 favorite either, but there's only room for 1 at the top and there are so very many other awesome songs by Dan to compete for that spot.

You may not have liked it as much as other covers by Dan, but you still enjoyed it! 😜 I noticed that the two covers you "didn't enjoy" were both of songs that you had not heard before. Might be a bias built in there for that reason. One great thing is this: we all have our own tastes. You like some of Dan's covers more than I do, while I enjoy others that you do not. We're still here appreciating what it is that Dan does to songs, especially in the more recent years where he has more fully explored experimenting with variations on the original theme. I'm used to this kind of thing being a fan of Devin Townsend as well. With his music, and the variety he does, there are frequently very polarizing opinions. His fanbase reminds me of Vasc Nation in that there are some that like all of the artist's work, while others are more picky and only enjoy one or two variations of the sounds explored. Btw, there was another reaction channel that did a "Battle of the Bands" with 8 different cover artists + the original from the show on this song. In my opinion, Dan's was the best and going by their own reactions (each reaction at a different time on separate videos), they enjoyed Dan's the most as well, but when it came time to rate them all, they claimed to not like Dan's as much. Eh, they need to watch their own original reactions and compare 😜. I think they simply got to a point where the song was overplayed and they were growing tired of it. Each version was good for different reasons, minus at least one, possibly more, but for pure enjoyment and energy, it's Dan's version without a doubt.
"Hew many foe-men" (this was 5 months ago, so someone has probably already addressed this). Hew means to cut down or in half. Foe-men is a word for the enemy.
