I was fortunate enough to see George Carlin live 3 times on stage. To me he was much more than a comedian. He has said some of the funniest and most poignant statements I’ve ever heard. I think it would have been amazing to be able to talk to him and get his opinion on all topics. I feel like he was one of the best people to have lived, again not just in his comedy but how his brain worked.
I saw him once towards the end. It was awesome. Tickets were sold out and I was so disappointed. Walking away from the box office, a couple approached me saying they had to leave for an emergency. They gave me their tickets....3rd row!! I'll never forget it.
When Johnny Carson was asked who was the smartest man he ever knew; his answer was “ George Carlin”. Carson interviewed the best and brightest, so he knows whereof he speaks.
This man was ahead of his time..been years since I listened to him I almost forgot how brilliant he was. Imagine if he was still alive with how the world is today ?
I had the honor of having him speak at my graduation. I attended Cardinal Hayes high school. So did George but he was kicked out 😂😂😂 . It was a great evening
Recorded 3 months before he passed! What a brain what a mind what a man and what a performer! I wonder what he would make of the damn country today! He would tear the ass out of life today!
HE TOLD THE TRUTH...we need more people like him. The truth hurts, but it must be known. I am from South America & I am glad he teaches me the REAL HISTORY!!
Prescient, huh? 😅 I totally agree! I still listen to his AM FM albums & Class Clown. His fake commercials were so funny - and WILD news, with his hippy drippy weatherman, 7 words you can say on television (which, FYI you still can't after over FIFTY years... and even podcasts bleep out some of them!) We're so fucked, circling back to the NE puritanical of the pilgrims. Except new England is pretty progressive compared to the puritans, they just spread out all the midwest!
I was thinking the same damn thing. I'm slightly jealous that he didn't have to see how far we have fallen, but maybe he would have thought it was hilarious.
It would be the exact same thing. And we all know it. Getting down to the bedrock and nuance of this man's brilliant word usage would not be different from today. He was never really "left or right" by the way the media reports it. The media would call him a liberal, atleast up until recently, within the last 4-8 years. He spoke reality for what it is. Reality. And it sucks ass. But he made that shitty reality fun and funny.
his last few albums I thought were a little too angry at the time but now.....I'm laughing my ass off if George was immortal and was still doing it, his new album would be titled "I tried to warn Ya" Rest in peace George, we all miss ya
some people judging him his late shows, usually after late 90s he became a bitter old man but i think its not a bad thing, his humour is better than 70s
@@batdis2046 By that time he had a LOT more topical material to work with, not the LEAST of which was that the ENTIRE second half of his career was for the purpose of paying off years of Federal tax bills that had been, um, past due. . .THAT ALONE had to piss him off plenty. He talks a lot about it in his books. Great reads, BTW.
How TF does this have 1.1k haters? This is absolute genius at work. His linguistic gymnastics are incomparable. Saw a performance of this set at the Ryman Auditorium and was blown away by how adept he still was. Very much a visionary. So much of his prophecies have come true.
He was dead for a couple of years when I first discovered him. Can't get enough of it. In German there is an idiom: Too nice/beautiful to be true. Georgie turns it upside down: Too true to be nice. I love you, old boy, and if the heaven you didn't believe in does exist, you certainly already know, your purgatory sentence must have been served in a sec. For all the truth you spread, and all the, well, if not hope, then certainly stoicism you installed in those who listened to you and had a laugh. Zanx
"Like herpes, I just keep comin back" I wish this man could come back just one more time and give his veiws on today's society. RIP George, you legend!
He had a blast in the 60s and 70s and 80s n 90s and 2000s Idk why people keep talkin about Carlin and now. He's talkin back then, and its relevant to noe. Basically nothing's changed
I had dinner with George in a dive cafe in Hollywood in '92. He was real. Hilarious. We made each other laugh. Politically opposed, became friends. I have always enjoyed his comedy, and he was much the same in real life. He told me once," If we can make fun of how idiotic we all can be, then break bread as friends, democracy works."
George Carlin is the greatest philosopher of all time that disguised as a comedian. Imagine the things that he can come up with this year 2022. He has a ton of materials to play the words with. Salute to all who still listens to his words up to this day and beyond.
His passing was a true loss. He put immeasurable effort into his craft that's going to be admired for decades to come. Thank you for the all the laughs George.
the biggest loss is for personally, never seen any of his stuff until after he died. i would of loved to of seen this man live on stage. true comedy genius
To be fair #JoshBlue & #JoeList are way funnier... [or #JeffAllen for the Boomers] But if we are talking about critics of society he was awesome for sure!! ( whats the name for that genre again? cabaret?? ) A few names that come to mind are #LouisCK and #BillHicks ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BkmbIAhoWrQ.html
IT'S SO SAD- GEORGE IS NO LONGER WITH US... THINK OF ALL THE JOY THAT IS LOST. LIKE TEARS IN THE RAIN.. I AM GRATEFUL THAT ALL THIS IS RECORDED FOR POSTERITY..... FOR PEOPLE TO ENJOY FOREVER!!!!!!!!!
I really wish i was the age i currently am when George was on top of the game. I wish i was in the audience and then shake his hand and tell him how much i like his mind and the truth he speaks.
I'm 69 and my best excuses are "I dont care", "I don't want to" and "I don't feel like it, maybe next time". People just figure you're old and leave it alone. Yay George.
I'm not far behind you. I just can't wait for the excuse of "where am I" will cover my accidentally walking into the girls locker room. :) (just kidding prudes. get a life).
No One can Top George Carlin! He told it like Was, not for what he thought you wanted to hear! He be the first to tell you what he thought about Politically Correctness! He is such an Original! RIP 🙏🏿🤗
Best birthday of my life was seeing George Front row, dead center... after the show a few people and I had the opportunity to speak with him for a half hour after the show. Very humble conversation.
Rosebine many have tried and many continue to try, but none can do it quite like he does. You’ve discovered the holy grail of comedy 🤣🤣 welcome Rosebine 🤗
I meat him at a book signing in petaluma ca around the time of this special. I was very unexpected by how star struck I got( I was 13 and meeting Rufus!) and he shook my hand and was of the best people I evere met. A great man
What a great guy. Always tried to warn us about this bs that's happening right now. He was a philosopher that happened to be a super funny, successful comedian. I still watch all of his recorded gigs.
My wish is to find like minded people who understand George's message and maybe find an answer to our problems we face. I relate alot to GC and I worry that others like him or myself or others, don't want to be found or be part of a people future. I know that with only a small ratio of actual humans like GC compared to any other group of people would honestly be able to make a massive impact positively for the future.
Yep - but TRULY , no matter what he said on stage - he never stopped caring . * Saint George Of Carlin * Patron Saint of The Overly Trusting , UnderBlessed , Excessively Gullible and Keeper Of The Flame 😚
this and life is worth losing are my favorite specials of his. some people say he got too old and dark but i laugh my ass off every time AND he's not wrong.
The best therapy is a good bunch of gc every day 🤣 he took comedy to a huge better level Cuz he knew what he was on about i loved his true to be the purest and honest self sense of humor cuz he didnt soften up at any curbs hahaha he rammed you directly into ya face with his stuff and it is defo more relevant than ever cuz if u look into todays lives man o man George carling knew it way back....already
My boyfriend showed me a GC video and I thought it was so eccentric and true of him to just stand on stage and spill all the beans on us. He let us know without regret and with wise humor. I didn't know he died, but now I know he's been gone, I miss him, and wished I had known of him while he was still standing.
George is the funniest and most intelligent comedian of all time. He makes you laugh and think at the same time. That's pure comedic genius. His material is still relevant today and I miss you thanks for everything.
And what did you do about it Terry ? No , just went back to the 9-5 working for the tyrants huh? Thanks for ruining the world for youth like me cause y’all are too scared to stand up
Started listening to Carlin in the early 1970's when I was buying comedy albums with my allowance, after getting Bill Cosby I started out as a child from an aunt one birthday, I,of course found Lenny Bruce, Red Foxx amoung other comedians, some just one shot wonders, anybody else have a 45 of Ajax liquor store? And I think you can call me Ray you can call me Jay you can call me RJ but you don't have to call me Johnson was only funny once. And of course Cheech and Chong albums, Richard Pryor.it drove my parents crazy because of the language. Be sitting down in the basement with a half dozen friends with a Carlin album on the Technics turn table, usually class clown. With a bowl of weed going around just to have my mother come down with her glass of wine and want to listen, always a fun time because that's back when the old man would put a foot in your ass for smoking pot in his house. Thank God for the invention of 8-track tape so we could set out in the Vista cruiser smoke our marijuana and listen to Carlin. My first Carlin album was am and fm. George Carlin opened my eyes to reality, and look at things just a little differently than everybody else was. The year he passed away Comedy as we knew it died, remember that was also the year that Bernard McKenzie died.
I love the sheer contrast of the comment and the username. George Carlin was about calling out dumbfuck bullshit that permiated our society and nothing is more emblematic of the dumbfuck bullshit than anti-vaxx.
