@Reviewed Why is the measured capacity so low? The official specs say the freezer capacity is 9.17 cubic feet and refrigerator capacity is 18.5 cubic feet. The shelving and drawers really remove half the capacity from both the refrigerator and freezer?
@@AggieNumberNine In the case of the GE GFE28GYNFS, there are several factors taking away from its storage space. Not only are the shelves and bins thick, but also there are water filters, railings, and the ice maker that also subtract from the usable space. And that's the other major factor: we measure usable space while manufacturers measure total volume. Our method is closer to "how much stuff you can put in your fridge" and the manufacturers are closer to "if I took out all the shelves how much water could the fridge hold." - Jon Chan, Senior Lab Manager
Rated as 5 out of 5 for temperature accuracy, and uniform temperature distribution on Consumer Reports. They test with 15 temperature sensors for one month. These are currently less than $2000, so price point is great.
Thanks for the video - For those in the future, I just purchased one (Black Friday, 2023 Prices in effect) for $1699 before tax from Lowes. It's on sale at every retailer for $1899 for Black Friday, and Lowes has as $200 of $1699 or more, so it became $1699 ($1899-200).
Here it was 1899, and they're offering 100 off for every 800 spent, so we got it for 1687. We also bought a dishwasher oven and microwave, so those BF sales really added up.
@@Spikito Nice, congrats! Check to make sure yours is getting sufficiently cool - mine won't go below 41 degrees (which probably means that it's leaking freon). I tried to get a replacement from Lowes, but they were Out of Stock and GE wouldn't help out. So, Lowes is coming to get this one and I'm having a Bosch delivered in a couple of days. I think these are an example of "if you get a good one, you get a good one, but you may not get a good one." Happy Thanksgiving and congrats again!
Family members bought one the past month. It doesn't come with a freezer ice maker. You will have to either order one equipped with one or have to purchase it from the store separately. To maintain the warranty, you will have to have the ice maker installed by a technician. In Lowe's case, they send out the people who delivered it to install it. They installed it on my Family members and didn't turn it on. They also didn't install the solenoid for it either. Of course, it didn't work!
Need Help!! I can't find anywhere on this unit that actually reads the current temperature in the fridge or freezer. I see how to "set" the temperature, but I don't see that this unit tells you what the current temperature actually is inside? Is it possible that this unit does not have the ability to tell what the current temp is? I have had much cheaper units than this that can do that. Any help would be appreciated!
We bought this model GE fridge in February 2022 from Lowes. It is now 15 months later and while we were on vacation the fridge quit working. We lost all our fridge and freezer contents. Fortunately we purchased the 5 year warranty. A GE Service technician came out in 2 days. It was . . . . . THE COMPRESSOR. It froze up the guy said. Now two weeks until a replacement compressor arrives and can be installed. I confirmed when the technician was here that this unit was made in Louisville, KY and not China. Apparently we will be reimbursed $300 for our food which actually cost about $500. Hopefully the next compressor lasts longer. Our former LG refrigerator we replaced this unit with had the compressor die after 8 years. They just don't make them like they used to. Looking online it appears that the GE WR87X10111 compressor is made by Panasonic in Singapore. So there we go. Parts made all over the world and assembled in Kentucky in this case.
I have this fridge in slate. I've had it for about 8 or 9 months. It's worked fine all along, but suddenly, the water dispenser in the door isn't working. The control panel is identical to this one. But the dispenser paddle seems like it won't go back (much, anyway) when you press it, or press a glass against it. The owner's manual is no help. I took the filter inside out, and then put it back in, and some water dripped out during that, so there's no freeze in the line up to the filter seal anyway. I'm stumped about the water dispensing, and the paddle. Ideas? Can the paddle be reset? Can it become displaced? Stumped.
Hi there! If something is broken, you should look into the warranty program or schedule service here: rvwd.co/3CsChRf - Mark Brezinski, Senior Writer of Home & Labs
@@truthray2885 I have the same exact refrigerator with the same problem except that both the water and ice dispenser stopped working. Went through the warranty I got through home depot and after a couple of visits they cut a check for the cost of the refrigerator. Good luck bc they couldn't fix it.
I have one of these, compressor went out at 11 months, took a month to get repaired. Now inside refrigerator water and ice, I do not recommend this model. Repairman made comment cannot keep up with repairing this model.
