As I mentioned on other podcasts. GE charges a fine price for this machine and should be responsible for resolving this issue ASAP!

We got one November 18 2023. And it broke down December 31 2023. And just got it fixed last week. It had hair in the pump and drain line. They had to put a new pump on. The he filter is a joke on the pump. And also had lint all over the heat exchanger.

@brentheffner6990 This is interesting. We have had our GE for about 6 months now, and we are starting to get the overheating error code 353 on our machine now. We just had the GE repair come out and replace the heat sensor, the very next load over heated with the same code.

Just FYI, the glue on those foam strips will gradually come off (especially with the hot and humid air that the drying cycle creates) and will deposit on the surface of the evaporator coil, making the coil attract more lint and harder to clean. This won't happen fast, but it will eventually happen and this is why clothes dryer manufacturers don't just glue foam strips on the frames of their lint filters.
@OzarkLivin
@OzarkLivin 4 месяца назад
I guess we will see what happens I'm not really worried about it i keep a close eye on it. I had to do something or this thing wouldn't last very long. The drying cycle doesn't get very hot. I seen another youtuber put a sensor in while running a load it got up to around 130 degrees. The foam i order says it is good from -40 f to 195 f . Thanks for the comment.

IF no one has addressed the black foam filter , that also needs to be cleaned i would say every 15-20 loads ,it get gunked up on the inside where you can't see unless you take it apart ,i wash mine gently by hand ,then roll it up in a towel twisting it gently to get most of the water out ,For what this machine costs GE could have made a better filter system .

I just happened to come across this video and was interested in watching it since I purchased my GE all-in-one unit approx. 9 months ago. Wow, I am having difficulty understanding your excessive lint problem that you are obviously experiencing for some reason. I absolutely LOVE my combo unit, and although I have been regularly using mine literally dozens and dozens of times since I purchased it last year, I have not had the lint issue you are having with your combo unit, especially on the coils. Here's what I do to keep the lint under control. I don't overload the machine with too many items. Sometimes I need to wipe the lint off of the filter after one load, especially when doing towels. With clothes, I can usually go two or three times before it builds up enough on the filter enough that I need to clean it off. After several loads, I disassemble the filter bracket and run the foam filter under the faucet and wring it out, then replace it. I also purchased a long, narrow attachment piece that fits onto my vacuum hose so I can put it all the way into the machine's filter opening to get any built up lint way back in the corners before replacing the filter assembly. I have never had any lint build up on the coils so I am wondering if there is something wrong with your filter bracket. Anyway, good luck with your modification and thanks for the video. I hope your fix solves your problem.

I've had mine for 3 weeks, and I put brushed weather stripping all around the filter before my first load, coils are still perfect after 20 loads. There are two spots though at the front of the filter that still had a gap after applying the stripping so I used electrical tape on the sponge side of the filter right by the handle as I noticed lint really gathered at those two spots (so top and bottom right side of the coils). I didn't get the 16" riser and got the 7" made for it as I was concerned for weight.

Very interesting. I don't have a problem with mine just because I don't have a problem with cleaning all the lint that gets past the filter on to the coil. But it's definitely going to be a problem for most people who either just don't care or they're lazy.
@OzarkLivin
@OzarkLivin 5 месяцев назад
What are you using to clean lint off your coil?
@HomeGuySolutions
@HomeGuySolutions 4 месяца назад
Technically, you do still have a problem. Every time you pull out the filter, clumps of lint will end up in the track. The next time you push it in, you’re allowing some of that to get over to the coil and start getting into the tracks and the back of the unit. Even though you don’t see anything on the coil, there are many coils behind it so if you get the slightest buildup on the front, you’re still getting buildup throughout the rest of the coil. My strong suggestion is do not clean the filter every time you do a wash and dry. Let it go for at least five loads or until the unit tells you to clean the filter. This way less lint will get in.
@Ozzie4Para
@Ozzie4Para 4 месяца назад
@@HomeGuySolutions you’re completely wrong in my case. I clean mine after every load using an extended reach attachment on my Dyson cordless vacuum that lets me reach all the way in the track. I then use a small toothbrush to remove any lint I see that sometimes gets on the coil near the very front. Trust me, i keep my filter, the coil and the filter track area spotless.
@HomeGuySolutions
@HomeGuySolutions 4 месяца назад
@@Ozzie4Para You are in the 1 % of people who care. The unit should last you a long time. You should give it a deep clean with the flush method I posted. You will be surprised at the clumps of lint that come out. You should do it once to give yourself a good baseline. You should not have to vacuum it out after every load. Most people will have a hard time doing what you do and destroy the fins on the coil. Question, on your machine if you do a wash only, do you lose the function to add more water button. Another software glitch….

@Ozzie4Para 4 месяца назад
@@HomeGuySolutions My mom taught us kids to take care of things from an early age so they would last a long time. That's where I get my OCD from. The fact that these machines are so darn expensive makes me take extra special care.

@mechael
@mechael День назад
That's right, an updated lint filter is the easiest solution. A few years down the road as these machines start to drop like flies there may be a class action for them selling products that have known problems.
@Ozzie4Para
@Ozzie4Para 5 месяцев назад
Another thing I will add. I'm gonna try this filter mod on mine just to see how well it actually works. It obviously can't hurt. I take out my filter after each load and of course I clean it. But I leave it out for 24 hours just so the area inside can dry out much easier. There is a lot of moisture on the coil and the surrounding areas after doing a load which is completely normal because that's part of the drying process. But I think it might be a good idea to leave the filter out when the machine isn't being used. Doing such will prevent the added gaskets from getting compressed over time which could reduce their effectiveness with preventing lint getting past them going to the coil.
@OzarkLivin
@OzarkLivin 5 месяцев назад
Good idea on leaving filter out so lint can dry up before cleaning seems that would make it easier for sure. I think you'll be happy with the filter mod. I did a load of brand new white towels right after the mod and the amout of lint that was on the filter was insane 😆 the mod appeared to stop any from getting to the coil. I will post a video of that soon.
@HomeGuySolutions
@HomeGuySolutions 4 месяца назад
My strong suggestion is to not remove the filter after every wash / dry. What you could do is what I do. I tell everybody not to touch the filter and ignore what it says on the display and just hit the up arrow and say it’s been done . once a week I take it out and vacuum the filter, vacuum the rails put it back in good to go another five loads / week without anyone causing any problems. Every time you pull out the filter, the lint is falling into the tracks and getting to the rear which is causing the problem further. Catching the lint is the first part of the fix. Upgrading the internal filter is the second part of the fix. Vacuuming the filter and the rails every time you remove it, is the third part of the fix. 100% percent success. It is normal for the slides to be tight the first four or five loads. That back 1 inch piece will compress, and form fit into size and will keep it airtight. If you leave the filter out, it will allow that piece to expand fully and you’re starting over from square one. try it the way I suggested, and you’ll see it will form fit and have a perfect seal. It’s normal for it to crush down on the strips. That’s a good thing. It will loosen up overtime and be perfect. As of now, I don’t know how long things will ultimately last until they need to be replaced again, but so far so good. I’ve done a second deep clean on both machines with the sprayer, I was surprised to see some clumps of lint come out the drain. Follow my procedure closely or reach out if you have any questions before you do it. It’s an excellent sprayer and does an excellent job and keeps, the service tech away. Great job!

From what I was seeing at the end of the video, it appears that you removed one of the top and bottom seal strips. Your posting has for 3 different sizes of seals. Which size of the seals did you remove? I will assume that the 3/16 inch was removed and the 11/16 inch was the the seal left on top and botom, then the 1 inch foam seal for the back. However, checking with since your the professor on the modification. Waiting for spring to purchase for a lake cabin in Minnesota and limited space. I have also ordered the parts and am waiting for the weatherstripping to finally put it together. I'm convinced this is the best fix for this filter issue. It's an easy and cost-effective fix, too. It's definitely snug and you have to push it a little for the foam to compress, but it's not at all difficult. The foam compresses fairly fast and you will get a nice snug fit in there. I am attempting to figure out what brand or link to the filter he installed? He said it was .15 microns. I purchased one on Amazon that looked similar, but it is not the exact as he has pictured. If you happen to find the item, would you kindly respond back? I'd like to also try using the filter he recommended to replace the black electrostatic filter. Regardless of the filter, I believe this is going to solve this issue. This machine is a beast and performs so well. If GE fixes this issue, this will be a perfect machine!
