First off, I have never in my 13 years seen a ball joint fail so why would you need to replace them except when replacing the struts....., and even then, not necessary. Second, you do not use "grease". There is a special sticky lube for this application. It helps restrict how much or easy the ball joint moves and helps avoid letting the tub move too much. You don't need to remove all the electrical connections, ground, pressure sensor tube, or completely remove the top. Just lift up the top, set the back onto the top rear of the washer, and lean back against the wall. If it seems unstable, you can use zip ties and/or hangars to hold it up so it doesn't fall. Proceed with the replacement of the struts.
