The start of building the gear hobber. Taking a look at the castings and drawings and discussing how the next series of videos will be formatted. Castings and drawings available at: www.martinmode...
Wow, this is going to be a great build series! Actually met Mr. Martin at one of the NAMES expos in Toledo OH back in the mid-2000s. Really nice guy, and his castings were very high quality.
The cast looks fairly good, apart from the error in pattern matching you called out. Errors in drawings like that are common in the model engineering world. Sometimes the fixes to the errors are added as an addendum to plans. Interesting that you watch John over Double Boost. Also I am looking at the English equivalent. That said I only have a 10" lathe but I do have a Naerok Mill Drill and access to a model engineering club with a bigger lathe and mill too.
There are two videos up. Just go to the main channel page and you should see them. Also if you are subscribed to the channel, click the little bell icon and you'll get notified when new videos post. I haven't been able to get to much more than those two due to work and family commitments.
Defenitely in for this one, Ive been wanting to build one of these for a while, but never understood the finer details or how to calculate the gear teeth throughout the gear train. One of these days, Ill cast out the parts and make one, lol.
@@mikedevine4667 I probably wont tbh, Im usually severly limited on when I can cast depending on the weather, and I really dont want to get into selling castings tbh. I was thinking about just sending the patterns out and let everyone share the patterns around, and I do have alot of those patterns on thingiverse that can be downloaded and 3d printed under the username cae2100.
I checked the website after watching the video. Just ordered a 24” camelback from gary, they have a bunch of straight edges and angle plates in stock if anyone is interested, call up, the website isnt fully developed and the order form is a little off
Looks like a fun project. Those drawings looked very amateur and of poor quality (at least what little you showed). I guess what you paid for was the castings.
