gpsfiledepot.com is a great place to get free gps maps for a Garmin. Garmin has a great product but their topo maps are just way too expensive. If you travel to 3 to 4 different places and purchase Garmin topo maps you can have as much as almost 500 dollars wrapped up in maps. Maybe its just me, but I think that is a lot of cash for maps.
I am from India, a farmer and I need to identify my farmlands, in a humble way the past governments have failed to help us. I am getting eTrex30 as a gift from my BIL, and I need to map lands. Hopefully we get to own our land as our birth right.
XX Century chunky item... need some intuitive GPS for outdoors with long battery life. Rugged, not as out stupid phones which run out of batt in a blink and are very sensitive to weather and falls. Thanks
I got the eTrex 32x yesterday, and i saw that "mills" stuff as an option there. I believe it was in the "positioning" settings... But i could not find anything for "mills" when i googled it together with "eTrex 30x", so i suspect it is only on the newer models... Not sure though...
Hello I seen the reply in regards to using it on a motorcycle. I'm looking for a gps to just track where I've been & maybe set points for certain locations while on a atv in the woods 30mph or less. Will this work or do you have a suggestion? Thank you for the help & time!!
I use it all the time on my motrocycle. At 70 it keeps up great. Get the upgraded programs for the area you're going to ride in. Western U.S. and Eastern U.S. for me. It also has great topo features. The toggle is a little difficult at speed though/ very touchy.
Don't buy Garmin! My has never been used rough, actually carry it in my first aid kit. Changed the batteries before starting an excursion. opened the back, removed the batteries, the little door and the map chip did the sproing thing, never to be seen again. Garmin says it is from mis-handling and will require replacement, and then the chip is not under warrenty (like the unit is?!?!) Bottom line spend your money on a good cell phone avoid Garmin!
Hi Griz. I agree with you. I bought a Garmin GPS Nuvi for my car. It came with higher price than my smartphone. But the Garmin often said "Lost Satellite Signal", which really sucked during the driving. On the other hand, my smart phone is equipped with " A GPS" (Assisted GPS), which doesn't rely solely to GPS. A GPS also utilizes GSM signal from BTS. Boths signals (satellite and GSM) work together in Google Map on your smart phone. The response is quicker a second or two compared to Garmin Nuvi. I haven't used my Garmin since then.
@@davebinks thanks for the help guys, but after reviewing the garmin marine models, I'll have to opt for 1 of those. Mainly because it's waterproof and floats. Lol
