@Auto Fix Thanks for the video. And BTW, that is a beautiful corolla wagon(they don't make them like that anymore, unfortunately) but there's one thing You should do before draining the gearbox: Locating & breaking open the filler plug first. I used to work at an oil change/fluid change shop, and a few of us(including myself) at one point or another drained out a manual transmission, differential, or transfer case BEFORE locating, & breaking open the filler plug, and in the rare instance(thankfully) that none of us couldt get the filler plug open, we ended up in a world of hurt. The best we could do was try and pump the right amount of fluid back up into the drivetrain component without going over or under the proper fluid level & causing a mess in the process.

Thanks for your videos, they are very helpful. I had a 1995 DX Wagon very similar to yours but someone totaled it. Loved that car. Got a 1995 base model with a lot less miles.

Handy, I have a 1995 AE102R that's just started giving me a gear lockout unless I thump the clutch. Figured I'd start and see if I've got transmission fluid issues since I'm also leaking other fluids like oil and power steering. Thanks so much for this!
@AutoFixYT
@AutoFixYT Год назад
If you can't get it in gear it could be several things. It is unlikely that it's the gear oil in the trans but you never know, check it anyway. It could be bad clutch hydraulics or could be worn out synchronizers in the transmission

Mine is 7afe celica and bought it at 175k now has 200k want to change transmission fluid but they told me not to because it might become slippery dont know when they changed it before.
@AutoFixYT
@AutoFixYT 3 месяца назад
With an automatic transmission, if the fluid is extremely old, smells burnt, or has collected a lot of debris from worn out clutch material, you will be better off leaving it alone until the transmission fails, then rebuild. Could last for quite some time. If none of those things apply, then change it and hope for the best. You can always add some Lucas transmission fluid additive. It has helped every time I used it.

Got a manual ae111 first is really hard to shift im scared the clutch migh be too gone and the fluid might metalic, in that case would you recomend not draining all the fluid in that sump thing area or is there enough old fluid in the gears and clutch to be able to drain the whole thing and fill with new fluid?
@AutoFixYT
@AutoFixYT Год назад
If it’s not shifting properly then you have nothing to loose by draining and filling. Examine the fluid and see what it looks like. Smell it too. If it smells burnt, the clutches are definitely hurt. Regardless, replace it. Add a quart of Lucas ATF additive. Sometimes it helps.

came to this video cause now my 4 speed auto is acting up it would randomly shift itself into neutral when I come to a stop or when I accelerate it doesn't do it everytime though but idk if its just low on fluid or I need to change the fluid & filter
@AutoFixYT
@AutoFixYT 6 месяцев назад
When you say shift into neutral, do you mean the shifter physically moves by itself, or it stays in drive but acts like it's in neutral? Those are two different things.
@Jeremy_Hill_2020
@Jeremy_Hill_2020 6 месяцев назад
@AutoFixYT stays in drive but acts like neutral turns out it was literally low on transmission fluid lol someone recommended the Valvoline ATF full synthetic fluid I shifted through all the gears from park to low gear then back to park for like a minute so all gears lubricated so far, my 4 speed auto isn't doing that anymore
@Jeremy_Hill_2020

It is always best to just replace the knock sensor if it's causing issues. They're cheap and they do go bad at higher mileage.

'96 wagon 🙂✔️ Another great video. The check engine light came on recently but it's still getting 33 mpg highway; 329,850 miles. Should I be worried?? Light went off for a week when I disconnected the negative battery cable in the "on" ignition position. Not a loose gas cap.
@AutoFixYT
@AutoFixYT 2 года назад
Thank you! A few things... First off never disconnect the battery with the ignition on if you can avoid it. Not a great way to shut the ECU off. That's like unplugging your computer while it's running instead of clicking the "Shut Down" button. Second of all, if you have a '96 you will have OBD2. Get a scan tool (even the cheapest of them all will read your code) and scan it. Clearing the light and it not coming back doesn't mean the problem is fixed. Whatever code it has, make sure you take care of it. It could be soemthing silly and it could be a fluke. But you'll never know until you scan it and pull the code. If the car is running properly that means it's likely not something crucial but it's still better to know. And lastly, that's awesome that you have that many miles on it! I actually just rolled over 352k yesterday and I too get about 33-34 MPG on average. Sometimes more, sometimes less, depending on how and where I drive. Just out of curiosity... How much oil does your ending burn? Hahaha mine burns about a quart every 1k miles lol
@apj341
@apj341 2 года назад
@@AutoFixYT Thank you for the reply. Won't be disconnecting the negative cable ever again 🤞. Will get it scanned. My Corolla wagon doesn't drip any oil on the garage floor, I use a synthetic blend, and by two thousand miles after each oil change it needs another half quart. It's my daily driver (and my only car). It's a very reliable little car 😊
@AutoFixYT
@AutoFixYT 2 года назад
@@apj341 Well you can disconnect the battery just make sure the ignition is off. If it's off it won't hurt anything. Also, wow 0.5 quarts every 2k miles! I wish I was there. My piston rings are so worn out I've been running 10w-40 for years and change my oil every 2k miles because it contaminates it so much. I don't have any leaks either, but it burns all of it lol

205/50 tires on 16x7 wheels with a 42 offset, no spacers. Lowered a few inches in the front and just about an inch or so in the rear. They fit really well.

I can't remember what mine was but you can use either. I think I used GL-4
@lobsterbisque7567
@lobsterbisque7567 11 дней назад
@azmultitrade Toyota recommends GL-4 for their manual transmissions b/c they have brass synchro rings. GL-5 will attack & destroy any synchro made from softer metals. BUT toyota says GL-5 is safe to use in their differentials.

can you swap none manual 4afe into a manual trans?
@AutoFixYT
@AutoFixYT Год назад
Yes, just fidn yourlself a manual Corolla and swap the transmission. 4A-FE and 7A-FE have the same bellhousijg bolt pattern so it doesn't matter what engine it is. But... I'd you find a 1.8L (7A-FE) with a manual I would take the engine too haha it's so much better than the 1.6L
@JalenRose02
@JalenRose02 Год назад
@@AutoFixYT it probably gotta need a new ecu and everything
@AutoFixYT
@AutoFixYT Год назад
The ecu from the 4A-FE auto will work just fine with a manual. You will just have extra wires left over and also make sure you keep the neutral safety switch connected and in neutral that way your car will start still.
