Kingston, Ontario - June 21st, 2024 On this longest day of the year, Western Mechanical and the crane component from Priestly Demolition outloaded their equipment. The Rideau Canal is open and pressure to remove the remains of the lift bridge is somewhat relaxed.

I still can’t understand why they couldn’t just replace the bent beam and do the other side as well . Another piece of history is gone . I wonder who made that decision. Upsetting

The feedback from PSPC, after a laser alignment check had been completed, was that damage and stress affected much more than the single beam showing obvious damage. I think we all regret losing our bridge, but we have to have some faith in the decisions taken so far.

I would like to know what route they use to get that equipment out. Yes, up the hill and on to Hwy 15 would be the quickest, but when do they do it?

I know that they headed for Hwy 15, and since both companies are based north of Toronto, I’d expect them to take the 401 westbound

Will they slide the span back in place for the interim Bridge, or will they cut up this perfectly good span and place Bailly Bridges in for an unknown time frame. Our tax dollars being shredded by consulting Engineers???? Be interesting to see the demolition contractor selling the old bridge span back as the interim bridge!

It seems unlikely that they will use this span - some sections of the deck are missing, incomplete at the time of the ‘incident’

Thank you for posting these clips, from a thousand kilometers away it has been sad to watch this Bridge being destroyed before it's time. Just think back in the last weeks of March if the first contractor had spent a couple thousand dollars to support the underside of the counter weight as they worked upon the beam which was damaged by the overloading placed upon it, the North side traffic lane was closed and this would have been so easy to do at the time. It has truly been a sad comedy of errors that has impacted Thousands of people needlessly, this is not to happen in real life only on stages. @@Aerosnapper

The latest announcement said that planning was in progress - it’s clear that it will take some time, if the best decision for all concerned is to be reached.
