-OK, guys. I want that the leader of the robot army has the most ridiculous design ever conceived by a human intellect. -What about if it gets killed every single time it appears on screen? -You have a bright future in the gaming industry, man.
"Robots are famously weak to knives" I guess Callisto Protocol was partially inspired by Gears 4. And the robot lady was probably the inspiration for Robo Palpatine in Battlefront 2 campaign.
The beginning part takes place during the pendulum wars, which took place before the locust war of Gears 1-3. Explains why you see a younger Dom, who has a bad case of being dead.
It's a really cool game. I played throught the PS2 version just to learn that the PC version is better around a year later. Had so much fun nonetheless
It did if you consider the gears franchise ended at three and got milked thereafter with an unnecessary, silly soft reboot. I mean, you spend a lot of the time fighting robots just to be agregiously sold a mode in the game with some semi-agressive monetisation. The fact thst mode didn't drop till much later just especially makes the intro so dumb and destined to age poorly.
Glad that the DeeBees come back in Gears 5 as allies though, the entire enemies of the COG thing was pretty stupid. I'd like for them to maybe be expanded upon and even have a DeeBee character in the next game. Being a huge Terminator fan, it goes without saying I enjoy them very much.
Can you blame them? The story ended with 3, Epic tried something with Judgement and a lot of people didn't like it, but Microsoft likes to cling to franchises and milk them, so here we are.
@@steelbear2063 I think judgement is to gears what reach is to halo. It was good, tried some new things and the fans just hated. And now we get recycled garbage for both franchises
@@thekotabear3262 Nah Halo Infinite is good, it just took fucking forever to become good instead of launching like this. Also I thought Reach was beloved by Halo fans
0:20 those are the Chimera. The Pendulum Wars are an interesting period in the universe. I read Aspho Fields that details the death of an important character that never gets brought up in the games. Marcus and Dom were buddies all the way back then. I distinctly remember a conversation between them where Marcus guesses you probabl lose about 10% body heat from an uncovered head in the cold. I also remember him crying. Id recommend it. Theres also BERNIE!!! I was so hyped to see her in 3.
@KnightSlasher I wouldn't call gears 4 bad it's just has a constant feeling of why when playing it not in a "Why continue the series" way more a "Why do it like that" way
@@KnightSlasher Honestly I prefer Gears 4, but maybe it's just because I'm so tired of open world shit and skill trees, but yeah in retrospect 4 was so baffling in some aspects, like having the campaign just be a tower defense game plenty of times, and the story being a bunch of nothing
Anyone remember before they put team deathmatch in how people would play annex to let the game go on forever by ignoring the objective and kill each other endlessly ?
I remember not knowing about Megadeth (like until yesterday) and I came upon a YT short where their name was misspelled, so the title said "megadeaf drummer"
Gears of war 4 is one games I didn’t mind playing. It had its moments but I knew how 343i kinda fumbled the ball with Halo 4, which wasn’t a bad game either but you can tell the difference between that one and the ones before it
Safe as it perhaps was, Gears of War 4 is still a splendid bit of simple fun, especially with a Co-op partner (Me & a couple of mates had some good laughs together with it, which is not something Halo 5: Guardians even at it's worst managed to get out of us). I certainly think The Coalition managed a far more smoother & more faithful transition from Epic Games' old trilogy into theirs than 343 Industries did with Halo (Even if Halo 4 is perhaps more interesting as a result) and I had fun with Gears of War 5 after it (Whatever misgivings people have with it, I certainly didn't have a bad time with it's Campaign at least). However, as someone who does have an Xbox One "VCR" (I waited until the Kinect 2.0 was separated from it and it *still* turned out to be a bad idea), it really isn't worth getting one for it. I don't know what is. I'd recommend a Series instead if you're going to get an Xbox beyond the 360 (The FPS Boost for the Series X looks a *TREAT* for what good old games received it) and/or want the split-screen co-op experience (To be fair to my One "VCR", it served me well enough for what few times I got to do so).
@@Sojo214 I'm eager to fire up the old games via Xbox One Series X FPS Boost for one thing, especially with a friend or more who have many happy memories of playing these games with. I don't think the SSD would make the main Gears of War: Judgement campaign any smoother to go through, but even though that may be our least liked Gears of War game we've ever touched (I think I'm the only one among my friends group who remembers that the Funko Pop game existed, mostly thanks to OboeShoes reminding me that it did), it's still given us laughs and Aftermath proved a pretty pleasant surprise that could still make a worthwhile revisit (Even if I or even we mostly riff on it or reminisce some very silly riffs of it from the time). Still, I'm happy that The Coalition very much stepped backward from the ideas that People Can Fly & Epic Games tried with that one (The changed control scheme & intrusive arcade features, mostly), but nonetheless don't pretend that it didn't exist. I don't think we could go wrong with a proper PC port, though (Preferably via Steam & not needing a Microsoft Account just to start the game up, but the latter's unlikely with Xbox Game Studio's current habits). Gears of War's old PC port enjoyed quite a bit of modding and much of my friends would be very eager to revisit these games via the platform we nowadays consider our primary. Not to mention, Gears of War could really do with the "third time's a charm" PC port after Gears of War 4 & 5 got very strong PC ports that read as sincere apologies for the poor ports that Gears of War & Ultimate Edition got.
It's nice that the DeeBees come back in Gears 5 as allies, the entire enemies of the COG thing was pretty stupid. I'd like for them to maybe be expanded upon and even have a DeeBee character in the next game. Being a huge Terminator fan, it goes without saying I enjoy them very much.
Gears 4 is a damn good game IMHO. Interesting continuation from 3. Grumpy dad Marcus getting mad about tomatoes will always be my favorite part of this game lol
Marcus cares because Dom cared about tomatoes. 4 was good but not great, Better then what followed though. Had me hoping things would improve with time
A lot of words to describe a recycled rehash of old ideas with overall no progression or new ideas. Gears of war should have ended at three. This is just a pathetic excuse of it's former self scraping the barrel.
@@Jormyyy I ain't wrong. Tell me one thing in regards to the story that has improved the franchise or expanded it outside of gameplay tweaks to suit modern sensibilities? Yeah mean just changing the name of the locust and, for all intents and purposes, bringing them back, despite 3 literally being a conclusive end? Gimmicks and cameos don't sustain or save franchises, my guy. Do better.
@insertnamehere8723 OK dude I just like the game. I liked where the story was going. The mass grave of locust corpses started breeding new creatures? Thats dope. Marcus and his son's relationship? Interesting to explore. The game play and set pieces were great. Final mission let's you play as a giant robot gear ffs that's awesome lol
I don't get why people complain this game was fun as hell. I like the set-pieces they had. Plus Gears of War 5 was pretty fun too. I get the complaint about the multiplayer but the single-player was perfectly fine
I had an Xbox One. I used to boot it up to see what MS added to backwards compatbility. Then MS stopped doing that. Eventually, I moved, and tried to trade it in. But it was too advanced, I guess, no one wanted to now be playing with that much power. So I tried donating it, but there were a couple specks of dust, so Goodwill figured some kid from a poor family wouldn't want it. So I threw it on the pile of old electronics to be picked up and recycled. Basically, paying to be rid of it. What a great console. I still use the controller, though, on my PC where I should have been playing games to begin with.
Gears 4&5 actually launched on Windows day and date. I didn't get an Xbox One until Taco Bell gave away an X but I split Gears 4 with my buddy. He played on Xbox and I was on PC but we were able to cross play co-op at the same time
@@RusticRonnie yeah I actually just got that Gears 1 remake recently on the Windows store. It's a pretty nice upgrade especially if you can find the CD key and get it for > the $20 they're still charging
@@RusticRonnie And neither PC version worked properly. Although I find it hilarious that the 1st Gears was like "yo buy a 360 to play this game" and then it launches on PC with more content, which only came to consoles with the Ultimate Edition
Wasn't the world of GoW a diesel punk inspired artistically speaking, sci-fi, industrial bulky machinery where instead of diesel it ran off Imulsion. Gow4 looks too clean and colorful, I mean GoW3 had color too but that was a bleak, desaturated yellow that gave the vibe of a arid, dry landscape.
I only played 1 and I remember game starting somewhat greyish and gradually turning more and more brown to the point it became so brown that the brown attacks you
Well, for great TPS games you can try Binary Domain and Vanquish, kinda short and sweet experience with surprisingly deep story. And of course, Returnal, one of the best TPS game in recent years
"170gb what are you doing?" Bro that for whatever reason reminded me of my old man, he didn't even play video games he was such a boomer. Rip old man. A random youtuber channelled your energy hard
