Doctor D0M3 they changed alot. They made it so theres a cool down beyween running and shooting and they alsp made 4 into a microtransaction hellhole which is jusy gay af
Whoever the hell was the sound designer for the original Gears of War trilogy was clearly NOT paid enough. Man deserves an award for how he designed the sound board of an entire generation of gamers. The sound of the longshot...aaaah sweet memories~
As someone who has played every single gears game from 1 to 4 and even that failure of a game judgement it's nice hearing the old and new sounds. thanks for taking the time and putting this together it's awesome
Parasyte the campaign was decent at the very very least but having played gears of war 1-3 and then going into judgment was beyond awful. I knew the game was going to be shit the second I had to Press "Y" to change my weapons. I made it all the way to the final onyx reup so I put my time into the game and I can truly say the multiplayer of the game was absolute trash
Parasyte free for all and over run were awesome game types and I do wish they made it back into gow 4 and beast mode was a great alternative to horde but judgment had the right gametypes just not the core original gears mechanics that every fan loves.
Nope. Epic kept pretty much the same sounds through the whole original trilogy and nobody complained. They could've made minor improvements to the old sounds instead of replacing them with lame ones (in some cases).
+some girl Yes we would, well some of us. you clearly didn't watch this Far Cry 1 and Far Cry 4 comparison video where everyone in the comments were pissed off about how the gun sounds were the same in both games.
ArticleReader Randy Yeah Man It's Terrible & Not To Mention The Fact That When You Get Tagged From The Torque Bow, You Can't Even Hear Anything! Compare To Gears 3 When You Got Tagged With The Torque Bow It Actually Made Sound But Not In Gears 4! So Stupid TBH..
ArticleReader Randy completely agree with that comment bur my theory is because weapons luke the torque bow and boomshot were locust made weapons they were buried with the locust and never used or maintained for 25 years hence the sounds due to not being as powerful because if you notice as the bow if powering up then top and bottom blades judder causing a break in the sound Anc when you release it let's out a groan or escaping gas?
I lIke most, if not all of the sounds from gears 1 more. There's this annoying trend in video games where gunshots are getting quieter and whimpier. As much as I understand that it's so that you can hear the dialogue during campaign firefights, it takes away from the perception of the lethality of gunshots. They could easily solve this by just having the characters shout during combat. An old game that kept gunfire loud and scary was rainbow six: Vegas. It does a good job of making you feel immersed in the terrors of cqb, as around any corner, or through any doorway you might be startled by the heart-stopping blast of a spas-12, or the ear-rattling spray of a mac-10. Those were the days. Headset users beware. ;)
I wish they kept the original sounds for the Torque Bow. All of the other sounds are so much better and sound more like actual weapons, but I prefer the original Torque sound. It was easier to hear and more recognizable.
@@fluffhead7105 also because every game dev at the time copied the hell out of gears for years until people got sick of it with the only contender that rivaled gears being uncharted for a while.
the explosions in gears 1 were so much better then the ones in gears 4. They also looked more cool as well. Like the frag grenade in the gow1 looked as if it had a larger range and higher explosion while the new seems to be kinda whussified in comparison
I liked how loud the gears one sounds were, they were loud and snappy. The grenades were fucking vicious when they blew you up. Everything was so visceral. Now it sounds like they bang on cardboard boxes like cod black ops 1.
1 thing about the sound design in gears 4 that annoyed me was when ever a frag was thrown out. Over half the time there was no audio que to warn. Not a problem if your looking at the Swarm who threw it. But well over half the time for me at least, it was off screen and landed just to my side with me barely being the splash damage zone. In the other gears you hear, Frag out, a good percent of the time. Or somthing to let you know other the metal sound. Which can and has been drowned out to the multiple bullets. No a big problem, and even tho it has led to me dying a few times in early runs. I can make an argument that it made me a better player. That being said. It can lead to some cheap ass deaths.
it's a bad comparison when you are outside for gears1 and inside for 4 when 4 has surround sound so you have to compensate for the echo caused by the sound bouncing off all the walls, try again using the same MP map or similar open areas where the sound won't get disturbed by simulated echo
Most people saying gears 1 had better sounding weapons, in my opinion I feel like the new sound effects for the weapons are much more realistic and simple instead of almost every single gun in gears 1 sounding like a bazooka and the audio quality was just bad.
I like the way the Gnasher, Snub, Longshot, Torque Bow, Boomshot, and frag grenades sound in 1. They all have ummph behind them.Everything else sounds good in 4.
i dont mind the gun changes, but what i do miss are the sounds that really made a gears game stand out. The recognizable ones that reminded you you were playing a gears game, like that sound when you first open the main menu in gears 1, or when you collected a cog tag or collectable, you know that classic gears sound. That sound is absent in gears 4, replaced with The Coalition's shitty sounds. :(
Gears 1 has the better sounding Gnasher, longshot, grenades boomshot and torque bow but gears 4 has better snub, Boltok, Hammerburst and lancer imo. The sounds need to be louder and more brutal tbh in the next gears game. One thing I miss is the voice acting in multiplayer, all you used to hear was people screaming and dying, shouting out 'revive me!' before exploding into 12 pieces from buckshot lol. Made it feel like a true battlefield in a fight for survival. Or even getting shot you'd hear them grunt in pain that's no longer a thing. Now gears is a lot more quiet in every aspect imo.
This took me way back. I originally got into the series with Gears 2 but I went back and played the original to death too. Definitely agree with the lot of you that the original sounds are more satisfying. This is post apocalypse but in 4 the sounds are so...clean. Almost muted. Dare I say the original Mass Effects had more gritty sound design.
The guns in GOW1 sound like they can take off your arms if you just shoot once... That's how powerful they sound👌 And you must have a very strong upper body to even properly control the gun and their back blast... Or it will just fly ou of your hand😅
Wow, side by side this makes me a little sad. GOW1 is miles better, the gritty sounds and particle effects are what I really loved about this game. Now everything is so clean and dumbed down, bring back the outrageous recoil, black powder smoke and overpitched weapon sounds, my hearing bollocks anyway
Watching this I realized the voice actor that did the cog gear on prologue is the voice actor of Gary but with a more of a helmet sound just think about it they even have the same voice lines other than my favorite, "This shit runs in my family!"
+The Leviathan1337 I know its weird. It has the original burstfire but with the hammerburst design from the last 2 games and that makes it feel uneven for weapon fans like me
If we were to argue the lore implications to this, it's fair to say that some of the old weapons of GOW1 to GOW4 became weaker, since the Locust were defeated, and no one wanted to fight in any more wars. Weapons then would be under less maintence and improvement, and only used sparingly. Granted, I am no VaatiVydia, but that's my take on it.
Who else feels like the sounds in the older gears like gears 1 , gears 2 , gears 3 , are much better than the ones the newer ones in gears 4 , gears 5 ,
Cool video but in Gears 4 it really depends where you stand int therms of environment. It sounds differently shooting out and far then if you are inside of the building and shooting there. They used the new sound engine that is far more realistic.
Do you guys see how his character is so dark it's almost like a shadow? I've never had that problem until recently playing the latest DOOM game on XB1.. how do I go about correcting this? The brightness wasn't the issue. Thanks for the help
I do too! it was a big fuck you for the Gnasherfags elitists online, nothing more satisfying than blowing up a wallbouncing Gnashertard shooting a single shell with a Sawed Off, man those were the days.
S.W.A.T Sergeant Bauer That's all gears ever was and it was phenomenal. Gnasher is hard to be good at and almost impossible to master. Sawed off was walk up and shoot lmao nothing else. Even epic games admitted that the sawed off was a fucking mistake lmao
