Poetry in motion. It is usually a very sad moment for me everytime I watch this video. On that fateful night in Sydney, I rose to congratulate my fellow countryman Tergat because he had 'finally beaten Geb' only to be shocked. Geb somehow found a way to beat him. These two greats are the quintessence of athletics. Great stuff! Long live Ethiopia, long live Kenya!
...and what happened? His ass knocked out by one of the LION of Judahs. It's pathetic for you to say that... this people are fearless. Beaten Italians like rented mules let alone one Kenyan.

Sema, It is not easy to beat an elite Kenyan athlete any day of the week but that day it was Haile G. The fact is Haile has 27 world records in his career. It is 28 if we notice the fact that 27 world records is an unbeatable record by itself that will be very hard to reach by any athlete in the future. This is Africa's Mr. G.
This last 100 meters was ~11.5 seconds. Amazing. You can't ask for anything more from these two absolutely phenomenal athletes. Such a beautiful video and race.

it was saturday lunch time in Addis Ababa, I was in School but I have to run back to home to watch this race....what a race what a victory it was.Long Live the King
i vividly remember watching this race on KBC. it was on rainy on day and i was suppose to go back to school after taking my lunch.the rain was the excuse for me to watch the most ever wonderful final.i was late to school though after the race.it was tergat's day!!
I've probably watched this 100 times. Watched at speed, the last 40 metres passes in a breathtaking or heartbreaking blink of an eye (actually Haile blinked twice). Watched here, with the inspired soundtrack from Mr Vivaldi, it appears to be an impeccably rehearsed moment of exquisite beauty, no less breathtaking, nor heartbreaking. I love the idea that Leslie Woodhead and Bud Greenspan (who filmed this) said to them before the race"We truly don't care who wins, just synchronize your stride for the last 40m". We should all try to look at more things more slowly.......and listen to more Vivaldi.
Surprisingly they becane best of friends after that. They have visited each other numerous times to launch projects they both have initiated in their own countries
this is a masterpiece. i have watched it a number of times and i am not getting bored. Just watching the emperor's perfect floating stride as well as the pain they are all enduring with each step is mind blowing.

In slow motion you can see how Geb lands on the balls of his feet and never lands on his heels. This allowes him to keep his center of gravity in front of his hips. Cuts down the shock the legs absorb in running. It's one thing everyone can cut down on by running barefoot once in a while. When you run barefoot you move the weight over the hips or slightly in front which really makes for better mechanics. The africans are amazing

Still I watch this I cant believe how Gebresilassie beat Tergat. As an Ethiopian I proud of Haile Geb. but salute to Tergat for what he did for his country and for the sport as well.
