Gedonia - Open World Sandbox Medieval Fantasy RPG 

Just want to pop in and say this is one of the best open world indie games I've played, despite being made by one dude. It's surprisingly bug free, even if it's a little janky at times. It's also got a really great magic system, so much so I'd recommend people start with a mage character over melee for a first playthrough.

The best part about Gedonia is that the developer actually understands what makes these games fun to play. When you create your character, you very clearly set out a style of play that you aren't going to be fiddling with later. Then leveling up constantly hits you with new abilities that really round out your character, and you keep finding new gear that neatly slots into all that. And while the overworld is kind of bland in presentation, it's filled with all sorts of fun quests and dungeons. You just never quite know what you're going to get. There are puzzles, boss enemies with juicy loot, checkpoint challenges, even platforming. And every area has its own theme, so the rules change on what you're going to find. It's a well thought out game chock full of unique, fun content. It's honestly a shame that it still seems to be flying under the radar of so many people, because this blows so many other games out of the water not only in terms of effort, but in clever game design. And the developer works like a beast. During Early Access every update was stuff like new dungeons, new skill trees, new areas, endgame content, quests, etc. I don't think I've ever seen a single developer work this hard on a project. But most of all, it's a lot of fun. I just couldn't stop playing this game. Yeah, there's jank, terrible voice acting, braindead AI, and such, but this is just a fun, clever, classy, little game. If you like action-oriented RPG's and don't play this, you're missing out.

I'm 10 seconds in and I have to share: Splattercat opening a video in media res is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I usually have to skip 3 minutes ahead before I can start watching and this was just a really nice change.

The game is a gem. And honestly, the music is waaaaay better than it should be for a one man project. Wow.

If this game had small scale co-op, it would be without a doubt the best game for couple's adventuring.

I'm kinda liking these cold opens lately, they give me a great feeling for the style of the game right at the start

I bought Elden Ring and Gedonia on the same day (Steam winter sale 2022) thinking that I can't wait to jump into Elden Ring and lose myself in that game, and Gedonia because it was finally released out of early access AND it was on sale (the two things I look for in games I buy). Well, the complete opposite happened. I tried Elden Ring, and it was good, and it is BEAUTIFUL (I'm fortunate enough to be able to play it on max settings), but after a couple hours I put it down. I installed Gedonia fired it up and the rest is history. I'm hooked on Gedonia the way I thought I was going to be hooked on Elden Ring. I don't know what that says about me, but I think I'm just old now and Gedonia is more my pace. This game is definitely made by someone who's played all of our favorite games over the years and decided to take all the different aspects that worked from all those games and made a mash up of all of them. There's most definitely Vanilla WoW in there (skill trees, items, music), there's ESO in there (control scheme), there's Grim Dawn (skill trees), there's Runescape (jankiness) although I don't know if that's a game feature but w/e lol, there's even some Pathfinder POTR in there with the infinite character- building possibilities (one of the best aspects of the game, if not THE best). Who knew there was such a gem still available in these days of all graphics and shitty monetized game systems. I come from the days of Turmoil on Atari 2600, so what young gamers consider unplayable jankiness and awful graphics, to me are awesome games! So in conclusion, if you're looking for a great open-world RPG to play and you're like me and didn't grow up with AAA games being the standard then look no further. This game is great, and an even better value!

Been playing and re-playing it for almost 2 years now and i can tell it is worth a shot. It has an amazing character creation and you can be almost anything you want, from necromancer to paladin to ranger to barbarian... My only complain is the clunky gameplay, this is something i already said in steam forums but its something that can't be helped it seems. BUT if you can live with that you will have an amazing rpg from an amazing developer that interacts with his players and actually listen to what the game can be inproved.

This game is actually pretty good. I ran a necromancer in my playthrough and it was fun, the dev had a good grasp on the summoning and companion system. Also flying everywhere was awesome. The only complain I got is that the world feels a bit barren, it needs a lot more in it. More clutter, more people, more interactions. The world events also need some work. The game already has a solid foundation, just needs more polishing.

I found this awesome little gem over a year ago, and it's fantastic to see how much progress he's made up to now.

Oleg has put his heart and soul into Gedonia, and I absolutely love it.

I bought this game right after this video came out, and the development since has been quite neat. Whole expansion added for free with a second entirely brand new map, new dungeons, new quests, max level cap upped, new skills, new crafting systems for further upgrading gear past the base-game's limits, completely re-did much of the voice acting for the main story, bug fixes, etc. Genuinely an amazingly fun game. There's a sequel in the works now, and with the money the dev got from the first game he has hired artists, animators, etc. to help him. Still a very small team, and mostly contract workers iirc, but still, its already poised to be this game *but even better* and because of how good this game is, I'm so excited for the sequel.

I love how much inspiration the UI has taken from classic WoW

I never played Runescape, but i played lots of WoW and some Neverwinter, and boy this game is hitting me hard with the nostalgia, there's something charming about it, and i don't know what it is, but it just wins you over and makes you want to see more

I watched the video up till 8 minutes and bought the game. As a Gothic 3 fan, this game hits the spot 100%. I confirm that Gedonia, like Gothic 3 vanilla at launch, is barely playable most of the time and AI is basically invalid and you will be quick save scamming every five seconds just to get your summons to follow you, but once you start playing you can't stop. The same feeling of absolute freedom as in Gothic 3 is present here, and it is glorious.

Bought it because of you, played like 30 minutes so far. Enjoyed every single srcond so far!

EDIT: By the way, lifestealing berserker with two onehanded weapons is VERY strong. Early game and mid game is kinda normal, not to hard not to easy. But when i started getting the strongest gear lategame the bosses was a joke unless they had one shot capability. This was a fantastic game to play, even when considering the cons. It got so suprised when i finished the game after 30 hours and i had had so much fun. Finding new items, getting stronger, good pace between being too weak to then progress to being super strong then weak again in the next zone. Also the magical feeling when you get a flying dragon mount is just... The ONLY gripe i have, which is probably more personal tbh, is ive had ZERO interest in doing it all again. It felt like a story that was amazing for the first time, but then i couldn't get myself to do it again even if you can go a different route of quests (kinda) with a different class while siding with a different faction.

Uhhm not sure if you missed it but there is another rather big thing with the endless dungeon mode that brings a bit of a diffrent gameplay also the fact that you have a arena where you can try out builds and so on

It’s games like these that make me wish you had a Channel for series or something because I would like to see more of this especially the harder stuff later on

I love the idea of this game. Even though the animations aren't bad I hope they become a little more fluid with time

The thing that was weird for me was when you finish many of the quests ,,there is no finish screen ..most of the time you check the quest screen if it is still active or moved to complete tab :) But i like it a lot .

I have over 150h in Gedonia, 2 story runs and 3 dungeon runs. 5 diferent characters and i still have some builds i want to play You will like the dungeons and secret stuff, like the cursed prison one and many others Also dont forget to check the dungeon mode Aaaand you kinda have an end game grind too in the story mode, with a big final big boy dungeon (and a few great dungeons before that too). You can get specialize equipment for your build and you can do multiple builds. Like, right now im doing a werewolf build.

looks real big and considering it is on steam for 12,50€ i think a little jank is no issue

I was super surprised when I found out this is a solo dev game. He did an amazing job for a one man show

I found the jank not as bad as it looks even playing a full melee build. That one boss he fights has either high armor or other resistances as it is very slow but takes a while to slay. Low level endurance boss where it's not difficult but getting hit is a bad idea. I never let it hit me but I'm sure it hits like a truck. There is a dodge, but you have to have a certain amount of agility to unlock it (stats at creation can firmly define your characters abilities or limitations in this regard, ex, you need X str to wear Y armor types or jump or double jump) Still, combat could be smoother. Cool game for the price and kudos to the dev - there's a lot going on.

These solo developers truly are an inspiration to many and I have no doubt that game will be a hit. Now, let me tell you this, if he's interested, I'm more than willing to help him translate the game content to Brazilian Portuguese. I have plenty of time and I would do it FREE OF CHARGE (okay, maybe a free copy of the game when it's launched) I'll try to find his contact information so I can email him.

This game really keeps me playing for a good while, less and less games do that at this time.

I Looooooved Gedonia when I played it over a year ago. Played a ranged character and pumped up movement speed and jumping, dang was fun. Thanks for showing it off! Edit: Never played Runescape or Everquest.

This game kind of reminds me of EQOA from back in the day, the EQ on ps2. I always thought it'd be cool to adapt some of those old mechanics to a single player game.

This has been going for awhile- it's alright but needs a lot of polish still. There is also a mode where you can jump in random dungeons/areas to explore- that's a bit more polished. The loot from the bosses and some hidden loot can be pretty good and the boss fights are usually decent. Just in your little playthrough though I already see new monsters + quest changes which is cool.

I really like the new format over the last few videos of jumping right into the game instead of going through the opening sequence. Keeps the videos shorter while maximizing the content.

bought game back at it's early access release (which i usualy stay away from) played it on off ever since it's honestly one of the best indie open world rpgs. forget the low price; there's a lot here, and much of it is pretty good.

What this game does is remind me of how I used to love WoW and how it broke my heart.

I bought this game years ago, mainly to support the dev. I've been tracking it all this time, playing it here and there. But I felt like I wanted to wait to get the better experience. Sounds like I should give it a go now, I can tell just from this playthrough it's seen some improvements.

Love the game. Been trying it on and off for about a year as well. Very charming.

It's a bit janky, but overall a very decent game. Most people won't be blow away by it, but it has its charm and I've enjoyed coming back and playing it when there are updates. The UI, controls, and flow of the game take a bit to get used to, but after a bit, you'll be acclimated. Its nice to see it getting some love.

Love the channel and love the look of this game. I've been feeling the need to dive into something the last week to supplement my,f unnily enough, wow classic wotlk raiding and I think this will fill that nicely.

He should open it up to the modder community at some point. Definitely has that old school MMO feel.

This game looks and runs better than Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
