What a machine this Geely galaxy G8 is, That price point in China must be icing on the cake. It's beginning to look like Game Set & Match for the Chinese BEV manufacturers. The Chinese auto market has turned into the only electric car market worth watching. Great review Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it. The prices here are just astounding, and I know for a fact that Geely has factories with barely a human inside, just robots, they call them dark factories because they don't even turn on the lights. Crazy.
China buys more EVs then whole rest world combine sto that market will make better cars by the time just by it self. But cars that are screen no buttons are not for me
In 1989, I asked my father, who specialized in repairing and rewinding all types of electric motors; What is the most reliable motor? He answered me immediately and without hesitation: Chinese.
@@MaticTheProto I'm not making any joke here, nor my father was. Unless you have been hundreds of different kinds and sorts of electric motors rewinded, my father opinion is hard to believe. But it was true .I currently hold the position for winding and repairing the electrical generators department for the Airbus 319, 320,340 and the Boeing 737 aircraft.
Amazingly beautiful car with luxury specs. Geely, pls bring it to Europe ASAP! Excellent review by the way, love the subtile humor 🙂 The rear reminds me of a Taycan, which is not a bad feature. The China EV world has gone bonkers.
Mate, your production quality has really reached new levels! Really brilliant looking and sounding video, excellent detailed review, as good as anyone I’ve seen on RU-vid. Really great work! Car looks killer too! 🤣
Thank you so much. It feels great to hear that. Working on creating more visually beautiful and at the same time more engaging reviews, so this was an attempt at shaking up the recipe a little bit.
Beautiful... I hope we get it here in Panamá, I currently have a 2023 geely azkarra 4wd mild hybrid and it is as good as volvo... solid ... have it for a year now...
Had a Geely Monjaro for a test drive in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan from a local Geely dealer. Almost baught it. Happy that I didn‘t. Waiting for the E8 now in the city to touch and test drive it, or the Zeekr 007. One of them should be the right thing
What are you saying, all the main electro players are part of the same initiative and built using common platforms and parts. It's like Chinese GM, only they actually have a product, unlike GM.
I can't stop watching this video I've watched it 3 to 4 times already, I just love that fantastic display it just makes most other vehicles interiors look outdated already. Hopefully they've got plans for other smaller vehicles as it's rather large for me honestly, but I'm rather smitten by it I must admit. Hopefully you'll get your hands on the Zeekr 007 with the Golden LFP Battery. Look forward to that one regards John Ps where was you filming that Loved that Bridge 🌉
Always good to have you back John. It's a cracking car. I mean they can't go much bigger than this so I'd say the next one will almost certainly be smaller, but will it be quite as good. Let's see. I'm really trying to get a 007 so hopefully soon, let's see. Bridge was filmed in my wife's hometown north of Xi'an where we're staying currently with the little one. Quite some sights to see here. Honestly the day I filmed the bridge was the cleanest I've ever seen the air there so I'll hope for another decent day next car I get there.
Well this was coming along for a while now. There was speculation that Geely intend to fully-electrify their lineup. Geometry wasn't going to cut it in the face of domestic competition so they brought their A-game for this one.
Yeah they needed to step up on Geometry. The overall standard of the market has gone way up and cheapies don't have a huge place now when you can get a car of this standard for this price. This is their reaction.
@@InsideChinaAuto I think they were angling Geometry for fleet sales or Rideshare EVs or Taxis outside of the main Geely brand but even they didn't anticipate how fast the market would develop or the level of competition.
This is actually the best review I've seen of this car. Currently the Performance top trim with dual motors can be had in China for RMB 185000, I guess the Xiaomi SU7 has something to do with that price drop. I'm checking it out in a few days. Only flaw in my opinion is that it's not a hatchback design. Lifetime warranty for the original owner in China makes this even more compelling.
Wow, that's an astonishing price, but I guess they're not selling so well. You barely see these on the road, which is a shame because they're really very good.
@@InsideChinaAuto Indeed I haven't seen one on the road here in Guangdong yet. I think the boot design is a big reason for that. But the Geely discount is not unique. Honda is slashing prices, the Germans too. Market seems a bit sluggish overall. And I haven't checked all the brands 🤣
I love it. If this comes to the uk for 45 to 50k depending on spec then I'll snap it up over the ps4. Currently drive a ps2. I'm impressed with geely group cars. I really like this, especially in a darker colour.
It's a great car this and the chassis is excellent. Didn't really see any difference between this and the 001 that the PS4 is based on, although I suspect Polestar will have made the steering more feelsome like they did on the wonderful PS2. I envy you. I love driving that car.
Cheers Mark. Also great to see you in the comments again, thanks for being a loyal viewer. Got more stuff coming up and am trying to be more consistent now things with the baby are stabilising. Aiming for at least one a week.
The boot may be large but the gooseneck hinges eat into the usable space. From experience in my own car anyway, my book is basically 3/4 usable because of the hinges. So annoying! Anyway, nice looking vehicle although I'm not a fan of the giant screen! Hope it comes to Aus!
@@InsideChinaAuto Once Chinese electric cars start to sell in Europe, it's only a matter of time before they come to the U.S. The big three can't continue to bribe the government to starve off the inevitable. They're time is limited.
Hi Mark . That's some car isn't it ?,Love the Amazing Display,Wow 😮 I don't think it is going to be long before they start catching up to Tesla in Software, What do you think ?
The race is on, certainly. I'd say there are things this car can do that Tesla don't have in their cars, but Tesla are really strong on their software I believe, ease of use and so on, but they can be caught. As for FSD-like tech, I honestly think some brands are there already. Will have to test the Geely satellite-connected stuff when I get a chance.
Imagine if Geely did the thing similar with what honda did to their civic, the TYPE R just imagine a dedicated racing division or tuning division for Geely brands that would be cool
Pretty sure it was Geely who tried to make the first sports coupe in the PRC, the Beauty Leopard? They should team up with others to to make a redux to show how far Chinese tech and manufacture have come since the 90s.
I don't remember if it could change or not but this car will likely go abroad so I'd expect English is built in there somewhere and there'd be a way to change it officially or unofficially.
I don't know. I'm not one that's very interested in screens but the overall interior seems nice, but rather like a Zeekr in many ways. The round knob and small buttons in the center console look like they came from Volvo's last generation (current SPA cars like XC90 and XC60). I'm not sure the purpose of this car is, unless it is to give a more China market upscale sedan. There is Zeekr and Lynk and Co. I think Volvo and Polestar have a different style and are more expensive plus they tend to tune their chassis firmly. But this seems fairly similar to the Zeekrs. I like the overall look of it.
It's a cool car. I think Geely want a slice of a fairly premium market so are going after that with the Galaxy range. They also need more use from the SEA platform.
Geely and their brands seems to be moving from strength to strength, Volvo, Smart, Polestar and Zeekr products seem to be unanimously very well received even by the more critical EU and US press, the new Lotus products seem to be objectively very good (despite not being a 'true' Lotus) and their China-specific models are similarly as good. Honestly i wouldnt be surprised if in 10 years the Geely group is seen as equal to big legacy conglomerates such as Stellantis/VAG/Daimler etc
As a car enthusiast who also likes tech, its absolutely wild to see how far the chinese car manufacturers have advanced in the last 10 years. Say what you want about China and their politics, but their car manufacturers are pumping out some incredibly impressive stuff.
They're making all the right steps it seems. Astute management. Not easy at all. Maybe one or two too many brands, but they're keeping their identities well.
@@InsideChinaAuto agreed about the brands, they need to work hard to differentiate them to avoid cannibalisation, eg Lynk&Co and Zeekr could probably be merged - then they need to work hard to give Volvo, Polestar and Lotus distinct market positions
It would be much cooler if you could control the cars in Asphalt 9 using the steering wheel and pedals. Apart from this, it's a good looking car. A ICE V8 version would be nice.
The world we live in. I do not want to break my back playing a game, I want it to drive itself to the charging station while I am doing real world things.
I do like many of the Chinese EVs but I do not like the common fastback look of nearly all of them, probably due to aerodynamics. However, I saw the YangWang U7 which stands out among all these EVs.
Fastback seems to be the style of EV saloons, started by Tesla with the S. I don't mind it if done right. As for the U7, not sure myself. Looks a bit pointy at the front.
Likely it wouldn't keep that price (taxes, eh?) but the Galaxy name would be interesting since it's not a model name but a kind of brand name. Not sure how that would play out.
Polestar is a Volvo offshoot. Polestar is more Volvo than Geely in that they started out as a Swedish racing company that later tuned Volvos and then were spun off. Most of Polestar's personnel come from Volvo. Both are in the Geely Holding Group.
that interior... I can't believe it's a geely. chinese cars have come a long, long way. ok, just made it to the end of the video and the pricing is just unbelievable. I thought it was easily a $50k USD car.
The Asphalt games is a great idea, but do you know what would be more amazing?, if you could use the actual steering wheel and foot pedals to drive the car in the game, the Tesla Model S and X can do that type of gameplay!, 😊
It's really down to the owner. Chinese like to spend more time in their car and see it as a leisure space rather than simply a transportation tool. If you've got a PlayStation 5 at home you're not going to sit in your E8 doing that but if you go to a park and you're having a chill day, you might just have a couple of people sit and play games in the car, or while you charge given it's so fast.
@ChinaAuto couldn't find any sources online confirming your claim, and you don't show it. So again. I don't believe it before I see it. Saw that "5C" battery from CATL. It peaks at more than 700A, when the CCS standard only allows 500A for a short period of time. This means at around 750V (what seems to be max voltage of this battery) it would peak at 375kW and "only" 3,6C. Still very impressive, but far for 5C. After a few minutes the amperage would drop to 400A which means 300kW, still very good. But far from the actual claims.
it's crazy how there's laws in place against using your phone while driving but EVs with those Big screens actually not only allow you to mess with the screen while driving but it's also necessary to actually drive and use the car features hell in the new tesla you need to use the screen to shift gears it's just insane now you passengers can play games while you are driving and this won't affect the driver at all not to mention these cars have No physical buttons and you really need to mess with the stupid screen just to start or stop the AC or fix the mirrors for everything really and when this screen that all car functions are tight to breaks your car is totally useless and the repair will cost you well alot seen how EVs are made like smartphones Intentionally NOT to be Repairable and even minor repairs costs tens of thousands of $ sometimes even more then the car itself but as a Bonus when you buy EV the company can deactivate features in their car whenever they want yes their car cause you don't own it not really
Not quite sure all of that is true. Would be curious on the warranty of the screen though. As you said, it's a big piece of hardware when it decides to go bust. The push nowadays though is more towards speaking to the car so you don't have to touch anything and if my Chinese were considerably better I could use all the functions rather than just some. You're right though about being able to see the passenger side screen. I was sure there was a rule to block it from the driver's view as some brands do make it not visible, but others don't. Sure in Europe that will have to be different.
Battery tech, which China has a stranglehold on, ATM due to control of necessary ingredients being more plentiful there, and electric motors, have indeed Democratized BEVs.
I wouldn't pay double, an aberration in terms of price once in Europe! The European Union wants to make the transition to electric and I totally agree, but it wants to do it on its own terms, thus protecting other manufacturers imposing outrageous taxes and prices! They sell us all the European electrical junk at huge prices!!!!Protecting the climate.....Dear everything down to the money!
This pale yellow seems to have become a bit of a thing in China recently, also making its way onto the NIO ET5. I prefer full saturation though, like on the Zeekr 007. If you're going to be bold, go the whole way.
Wonder why they left Porsche. I believe Li Auto's chief designer is ex-Porsche too. He said he didn't want to design cars for old white men anymore.@user-rd9mb3js5q
Meanwhile... Volvo still puts a 9" center display in their 2024 (X)C40's Recharge and a 12.3" display in the upcoming EX30. I really wish they were a little bit less conservative and went all in on software features. Really want to keep supporting our economy by buying/leasing cars that are built in Europe, but these Chinese cars will be lightyears ahead in no time if they keep this up. Terrible color though 🙃.
Volvo needs to up those screens sharpish. The ones in the C40 and XC40 do not cut it in 2024. Urgent refresh needed. 12 is OK, doesn't need to be over the top. Not sure I'd go portrait though.
@@InsideChinaAuto yeah portrait is great for navigation but that's about it. If I watch RU-vid on it, I might as well watch on my phone as it's pretty much the same size. BYD has the best of both worlds with the rotating screen but I'd prefer this more integrated look. Also, my daughter would love the 'separate' passenger screen 🙂.
not sure you know that all EVs are shitty at winter especially chines ones!! go and tell that to those in Chicago which Tesla lose range and needs hours to recharge @@GTI_CHHA
Can only say it was -5 and we had the 150kW charging version, and the charging was no problem. 44 minutes to go from about 32km to about 550km of range. Not sure about range itself as there was no odometer to be seen.
@@Mr11ESSE111 Most places don't get colder than -5 for prolonged periods of time unless you're particularly far north. For the vast majority of average users, they'll be above that.
