Referring to gear, gloves are essential to my gear and having a larger latch to grab onto while wearing gloves is a major bonus and sort of ties in to the fine motor skills aspect you mentioned.
Having a gas-block charging handle is not just for suppressor use, but short barrels have larger gas ports, which don't increase pressure, but do increase the volume of gas going back to the receiver. The gas-blocking charging handles were not designed for suppressors, but for short barrels and suppressor users found them more comfortable also. With larger cartridges, such as in an AR10 in 308, the amount of gas produced by 308 is much more and gas blocking charging handles are also useful for increased comfort with larger cartridges.
I think too big of handles make it easy to torque at an angle and possibly bend charging handle. All my built rifles function very smooth and I like the geiselle airborne. I believe training often is better than any fancy part, but yeah I enjoy geiselle stuff all of it.
Geissele Super Bad A$$ charging handles are generally used for scoped rifles where as the Air Borne is used with red dots or smaller more forward mounted optics that will not be in the way of charging your rifle
@@Militiaman1337 I like the angle of the latches better. The latches seem to be a point of contention with some folks on the Raptor though because some folks get them snagged due to the somewhat forward angling latch. I like how they are slightly swept forward, and when I am charging, the latches stay swept forward slightly even when actively charging. The GEISSELE latch rotated too much to the rear for me. It almost feels like my fingers are gonna slip off of the latch. I think they probably would slip off if it wasn’t for that little hook at the tip of the latch. That is another thing I don’t like, is the hook, or point, on the latch. The point doesn’t lend itself to be as easy to grab as quickly as the Raptor without possibly grabbing that point. I also like the serrations much better on the Raptor, they feel more substantial without being too aggressive. To me, on the G, I can barely feel the texture on the latches. Also, I feel like the Raptor build quality feels more solid. Feeling more solid is probably all in my head, but the Raptor just feels like a tool and the G feels almost like a toy to me. I like how Radian made the forward assist side lever a little longer to help clear said F/A. One thing though I will give to G that I really like is the raised lip in the rear to help divert gases away from the shooters face. I haven’t used the SD Raptor though and I hear it works pretty good for diverting gas, though I wish Radian would throw a lip on the back of the standard Raptor. I feel the only real upgrade the standard Raptor needs is that lip.
And for some folks the Raptor is better. I have both and are both equal for me and my shooting and over 21 years of military experience. I also stay away from Acogs. The 3.5x would be the only one I would consider.
I do still like it more, especially for suppressed shooting because of the lip on the back, less gas in the face. However there's even a better model now, if you want even smaller handles than the airborne has, called the "government" charging handle or something. However, they're extremely hard to get and might not even make them anymore because it was a government contract for the feds. Apparently, the feds wanted even smaller handles for the reason I stated in the video, so they don't catch on gear/plate carrier/etc. You should be able to look it up on Geissele's website. Good luck finding one though. If they're smart, they'd make more.
I have both, Geissele all the way, the radian design does not work much better than a GI , the ridge at the back does not go high enough. the PRI is much better than the Raptor SD as well
Is it better than that Radian SD the one for suppressors because I’m a lefty and I’m wondering which is better for gas in the face or because I’m left handed I’m screwed???🤯🔫👍🏽
I've been wondering that myself, and I'd love to do a side by side comparison, but don't have one. I have heard that the Raptor SD is great and that is sucks and doesn't do anything, so those are very different reports. I went with another Geissele for my AR10 build.
I have both and prefer the super. The Airborne is for smaller men and women. A little to small for my hands. And honestly the lip is a selling gimmick. I have OSS elite cans and the blow back is about the same as the Radian.
