Do you really know how much you are appreciated by your viewers? I cannot thank you enough for all of the time and effort you spend making your videos and experimenting with gelli plate techniques. You are brilliant!
That is such a kind message Cheryl. Such a pleasure to share - I honestly had no idea the channel would grow into what it has so far and, by some of the messages, I am getting a feeling of how appreciated my expreiments are! It's amazing that people will be prompted to dust off gel plate or try something new in art as a result of a video I make. Thank you, for always leaving such enthusiastic and encouraging messages x
You really a terrific fella. I'm absolutely loving your tutorials, your down to earth honesty, encouragement, inspiration, artistry - everything. You are a breath of fresh morning air and a big burst of sunshine. Thankyou 🙏❤
Thank you so much for all the fantastic ideas you present. This video, like all your other vids, is totally inspiring and makes the creative wheels turn and turn.
Just popping in to say thanks for your videos, and also, I wanted to say that you are really adding some great new techniques to the body of knowledge of gel printing!
Hi, your demonstration s are great. I like your simple and to the point! Thank you. I enjoy watching you freely trying different techniques without a bunch of BS.
After many failed attempts I finally got a pretty good result this morning (after leaving overnight). I used the chinagraph pencil over a photocopied image and the text embossing with a pen. The amount of paint, pressure, paper types for which jobs and just how long to leave it for are a bit tricky but I'll persevere! This result has me pleased enough to want to keep experimenting. Your unconventional use of the plate is so refreshing and inspiring. The possibilities are a joy to ponder 👌 Thank you. Very grateful. From Brisbane QLD (thank the goddess for technology!)
This is freaking amazing! Love all your techniques. I tried this today and cheated a little bit by using transfer paper under my image. It transferred the lines perfectly and then I went over them again with pen. Turned out fabulous. Thanks again!
Hey Luann, there's no cheating in Art - you do what you need to to enjoy the process and stay motivated. Glad the technique worked for you - honestly, it's so gratifying when I hear viewers make the techniques I share their own : )
I am going to try this on fabric as I like working with fabric and thread. I did your emboss method where you did a wax rub over a toad linocut, mine was a rubber stamp of a bird and I used acrylic paint mixed with Golden GAC-900 Fabric PrInting Medium , an approx 1: 1 ratio on my small round Gelli plate. Very approx as this was just an experimental piece. I used a piece of cotton/polyester fabric, from a ripped up duvet and the image transfered remarkably well. This idea is is going to give me a lot of inspiration and I keep looking at my bird and smiling. So thank you for these videos, I have become a new subscriber and am going to work my way through them and try incorporating some of them into my fabric pieces. It was pure chance I discovered your channel and very pleased I did. You are an excellent tutor by the way, making it easy to follow your guidance.
I have spent quite a bit of time watching different gel plate videos. Your’s is the most unique, creative, truly artistic work by far. Thank you for sharing your learning and techniques. I need to watch each several times to get a better understanding of how you “pull it off” (pun intended).
Hi Libby, really kind words. Great that you can rewind and re-watch, I think that is why video is such a good format for teaching. With all the feedback, I'm getting my head around the pacing to make it clear but not eat up your days!!! Happy printing : )
Everything you do is so clear and accessible that I feel inspired to try your techniques. It's the way you put it all together that takes my breath away. You make me want to make better and more complex art.
Thank you so much! This print has been in my head for weeks, but not being able to draw well enough, I turned to you…for inspiration. Episodes 1 & 2 gave me the courage I needed. Used the graphite technique transfer and it all poured out. Please enjoy your holidays and thank you so much. Why do I not know how to insert the photo haha.
I absolutely love watching your tutorial. Brilliant use of the gel plate. The gel plate makes mixed media loads of fun and the possibilities are endless. I can’t wait to give this a go. Your video demonstrates an amazing technique. I’ll be rewatching this one many times as I play with this. You now have a new SUB. 🤗
Cheers Abbie, thanks for subscribing - lots more videos coming - never imagined so many people would be interested in me playing around and working stuff out!
Absolutely love your videos. Your creative and often unique processes. The on-point instruction and calm delivery. Much appreciated. Thank you for sharing. Wishing you continued success with your creative endeavors.
Mark, you should write a book. With all your wonderful techniques. Yes I know, you probably have plenty of spare time to write a book.... 🙄🙄😉😉 Fantastic video as always.
Haha nothing wrong with a good trilogy! I doubt there'd be any complaints if you went all Star Wars (I don't know how many 'episodes' there are now lol). This technique is really helpful for learning to think about and identify tonal values. I like that you 're-use' the techniques for your backgrounds. It shows that you don't need to start from scratch every time and it also shows how you can develop your own style through the choice of techniques and how they are combined. Tfs!
oh my word pippi, I am not going Star Wars with a ballpoint pen! that's too many episodes and the Phantom menace was not good! The collagraph pieces work well for a fair few prints, as do embossed sheets - a bit of scope to play if you can get a few prints!
I'm super impressed as usual (especially how you managed to tear the blue dotty paper to the exact shape of the shirt 😉) Seriously great information and a refreshing change to many of the 'pretty' prints. Thank you so much!
Excellent video thank you. This is just what I need to see! What type of paper are you tracing onto again? And have you ever traced with a tracing stylist? The ones with the ballpoint but no ink?
Really loving your classes…….I see that all your transfer techniques are done with a laser printer……I can transfer with my ink jet printer. Dry successfully using professional business paper. I have a very cheap hp6055 and it works perfectly on a black and white setting….if I could post a picture I would show you but the comments box does not allow for pictures…..any way thanks a million for all your great geli plate ideas……I am learning so much. The snap seed app that you recommended in marvellous.
Great, the hope was that those who find drawing intimidating would still be able to try sdome of the techniques I've been looking at. Please let me know how it goes... when I do these things I never really know if people will find it straightforward in practice ; )
Your fans have said all - I agree with them 🤗 Again - thank you for sharing. Wish you and your family a happy and healthy Christmas and New Year and lots of new inspirations and creativity.
Thanks a lot for sharing your passion and explanations, directly ordered a gel plate after checking out your content. I was wondering is it possible to transfer from thermo paper? like for receipts.
Wow I just discovered you last night and am hooked. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge you are so generous. I love your style of presenting and working and how you explain everything. I love printing too and will now have to start using my gel plate which I gave up with first time round!! Thank you 😊
After seeing comments on different sites of people struggling with magazine transfer resist in the traditional way embossing offers more certainty of a good result. In a past art life I obtained transparencies of a favourite photocopy which has a tactile ridge around the ink, as it sits on a high gloss surface. I haver never tried it but suspect it may be easier to obtain an image resist on the gelli using a transparency and maybe get some nice subtle tones too. Maybe you or a gelli enthusiast may like to give it a try.
Wow. I am so taken with this gellie printing. Thanks for demonstrating it.I want to use it on fabric for intuitive type small wall hanging quilts. Dina Osullivan
So inspirational ! Thanks so much for sharing your art processes. I’m having trouble with my paper sticking to my plate? I live in Portland Oregon so not a dry climate at all….. Any advice is most welcome !
Really enjoying watching you work. It's inspired me to give this medium a try. Love the spontaneity. My granddaughter is 3yo, and already showing artistic ability - want to pass these techniques on to her. My focus has been in block printing, having been inspired by the German printers of 100 years ago (the Die Bruke). You deserve a larger stage to perform your skills.
I agree with all the comments about appreciation for your well-made videos and creative solutions. So inspirational! You mentioned a recommended paint brand/type from a viewer and am unable to locate it in the transcripts. What paint do you use for greatest success on gel pulls? TIA
I've just found your videos and I'm so happy, you really are inspiring and the experimenting is something that's so good to try we all need to play more... so a huge thank you for sharing your ideas please do more! Tomorrow I have a printing class and guess what I'm going to try using your ideas as we have gelli plates to work with.
