I have watched dozens of 3 light setup videos attempting to find usual power settings. Your video is the first that made it finally click for me. Thanks mate! Quick subscribe!

Thank you for this video! I'm currently experimenting with gels & flash. Right now everything I do is on the cheap and in a fairly small space. Timely video!

Thanks Alan, we're glad you enjoyed it! Hopefully it helps to prove that it's still doable with budget kit and a tight space! Love to see your shots, feel free to join our Facebook group and share them - Practical Photography Talk, or link in the description.

Very practical indeed. In the last setup, how is that the softbox behind the model, is not visible in the photo?

I use Godox V1-S and AD200 Pro all with AK-R1 kits. Sony A7III, and XPro-S high speed sync and about 600 sheets of color gels from Rosco. Full range color correction CTO/CTB/CTS and lots of color filter options. So many options.

I was wondering what kind of equipment you used? As in speedlights and boxes? I'm just wanting to have a play with gels, but on a low budget like you mention in your video and I don't particularly want to invest in this area if it's not for me. I know it's a long shot, but hopefully you can remember. Thank you!

The gear he used is less expensive but still can get the job done the soft boxes he uses are from Neewer. I have some of their equipment too and it does the job. As far as the speed lights, as long as u get ones that have compatible wireless triggers that’s all u need

Im purchasing more and more equipment. Im on a budget. I just recieved selens gels for speedlites and a godox bowens s mount flash bracket. Next item will be softboxes. I already have umbrellas. Your video is the first that use gelled speedlites in softboxes, instead of larger square gels the size of the diffuser that pothers show. I think i loike the look because the light is softer.

nice to see that you`re using Yongnuo Nikon i-TTL speedlites and radio system ... meanwhile I own six Yongnuo YN-568EX N i-TTL speedlites + Yongnuo YN-622N i-TTL commander/transceiver radio trigger system and I like to work with them How do you get them working together with an original Nikon SB-900/910 (?) speedlite in i-TTL mode or do you use this "SB" speedlite only in manual mode? That`s an issue I can`t solve so far.

How did you manage to get that look at F10 in the last picture? I'm trying to recreate that shot, but all I get in the back is the softbox outlined with red. Is it edited?

Thanks Kien. It's the Lastolite Vintage Collapsible Background 1.5 x 2.1m Smoke/Concrete. A bit pricey, but if you require a lot of portable background shots, it's a great investment.

I get confused on f stop for photography versus video. Video seems to need a lot of continuous light and/or a fast lens (f1.8 or faster). Photography seems to use f6 something to f12ish.
@pogolas
@pogolas 3 года назад
In a studio, you don’t need a fast lens. You control the light. Also usually no nice background to blur and you need your model to be in focus.

Come on portrait On a D850 with 24-70 2.8 @f/8 is not what you will get with a d3400 with 18-55 @ f8
@ppmagazine
@ppmagazine 4 года назад
Then you're not using your D3400 correctly. The camera you use is the least important part of the process for studio shooting, and we've seen shots we can only hope to achieve shot on entry-level gear.
@rounak301
@rounak301 4 года назад
@@ppmagazine yup i agree but they will never be same in quality When you will make larger prints with it A 24-70 is much sharper at f8 than a 18-55 kit . Yeah but if someone is starting off gear doesn't matter at all
@rounak301
@rounak301 4 года назад
@@ppmagazine i never owned a D3400 thought 😅 started with b500 switched to D750 recently
@ppmagazine
@ppmagazine 4 года назад
@@rounak301 True, you may notice if you're close enough that it\s not as sharp. However, with printing tech at the level it is today, and larger prints requiring less DPI due to the distance they're viewed from, you can still get great results, even iPhone shots can be displayed on billboards now! It's a brave new world! ;)
@ppmagazine
@ppmagazine 4 года назад
@@rounak301 Both great cameras, very excited to get hands on with the new D780! The D750 is one of the company's best ever selling cameras, so it should be a stunning piece of kit!
