Finding your tutorial so helpful, love the basics tip, and that you are using 2 different types of paint (distress inks and a tube of acrylic) I didn’t know I could do that. My husband purchased a gel plate for my 67th birthday and I have had a lot of fun with it. But it is definitely a learning process! PS: We love your state’s Outer Banks and have vacationed there since 1980!

That tip about inking a stamp on the gelli plate was also very helpful. Thanks!

Hi Lisa! You can get a third print of plate quite easily if you are left with a beautiful design like the snowflake design you had. Just let the leftover paint dry completely on the gelliplate, then add a new layer of paint in another colour and lift that of. The new layer of acrylic will lift the ghost print leftover with it, and it usually gives a beautiful print!

I love your snowflake stencil. When you remove it from the Gelli Plate it will have paint on both sides. You should put it between 2 pieces of paper and brayer it and see what you get with those two prints. I've had good results and I think your snowflake stencil would be lovely. Thanks for sharing your videos!

i leave dried paint on my plate all the time. they help to create great crusty paint loveliness. somewhere, someone told me the soft Speedball brayer is best actually (although i use the exact same Ranger one YOU use, and have no problem). IDK. i also have better luck with cheap craft paint than the thicker better quality stuff

I wonder if you could get that Liquitex pigment to spread a little better if you added either a drop or two of water, or an extender?

Hi Lisa, first I want to thank you for your great tutorials! I have a question.... do you know if the gelli printing technique would work on a smooth flat wood surface instead of printing on paper? I am a Decorative Painting designer and I work with mainly wood surfaces. I thought gelli printing would make some beautiful backgrounds. Thanks again for teaching this technique! It really looks fun and probably a little addictive, but that's okay! Happy Holidays from California!

Thank you for all your terrific suggestions. I liked the idea of creating a placement Mark, using the washi tape! May I suggest, thinning your heavy body paints with a some drops of "retarder." Not only will you get more work time, it will thin the paint without losing it's quality, as happens with water. Thanks again for such well throughout tutorials. I love your examples.

+cheryl7476 Thank you. I wasn't familiar with retarder. I'll have to pick some up the next time I'm in the art supplies. Thanks again!

i remembered your caution about opening paints to avoid chunks...really smart. need a hard brayer so thanks for the tip, and as I make my own plates, do you recommend a paint that dries slower? and isn't an arm and a leg per piece? thanks.
@AntyPam4250
@AntyPam4250 7 лет назад
Liquitex and Golden (and probably others) sell a product called Painter Retarder - add just a little, and it will keep your paints wetter longer. It's not expensive, either.

You are using your plate too dry Hunni 😘, add more paint to your dry paint then pull a print , leave your paint to dry in between layers and you’ll have great prints , I loved the trellis design you done , 😍

Letting it dry completely with the last layer of paint and paper on it will help get all older paint off of the plate. Tip by Denise Lush.

I keep my larger gelli plate on a piece of plexiglass I had cut at my local glass company. If I were transporting it, I would just put it inside a plastic storage box like an isis case or a Rubbermaid storage box along with the papers I was going to use.

www.gelliarts.com/collections/products?page=1 This is the site that created it. You can buy from on line art stores too. I made my own for MUCH cheaper. You Tube has many recipes for making your own. I made mine over a year ago and it is still great. No mold or anything but I did add alcohol as a retardant. God Luck!

Yes, some of the paint comes off and can provide an interesting effect. Better used as another layer on print that is already well covered with paint.

+Susan Guzy I cut mine from stencil material from Hobby Lobby - it is in the regular crafting section with the home decor stencils. You can cut any design on stencil material. I cover this in my Scrapbooking with Stencils class. lisae-design.blogspot.com/p/classes.html

The only "don't" I've come across so far is do NOT use glossy photo paper as it can stick to the surface of your Gelli pad and when you peel back the paper, it rips some chunks of the pad with it. This occurred when I tried an image transfer from an inkjet printout to the Gelli pad and then I tried to pull the image onto the glossy photo paper. I have also heard of other reports of this problem involving glossy photo paper. You can recover your Gelli pad by melting it in the microwave and pouring the liquid into an appropriate mold but this is the last step of an aspiring artist who is chasing the elusive masterpiece and still maintaining a budget.

I feel constant references to to Hobby Lobby are offensive.
@LisaEDesign
@LisaEDesign 8 лет назад
It isn't my intention to promote Hobby Lobby especially. They are just the closest craft store to me and the one I shop at most frequently. I often get questions about where I get product so I sometimes include the name of the store. This comes up particularly for stencils as many are unique to a particular store.
