​@@19chevelle72Yeah... Buddy here doesn't know what he's on about. Just unlock the J2M2 in the jap line. WAY better 4.3 than any Mustang. The current meta is 25 minute game -> climb rate is king, and the J2M2 is fully optimized for the climb. P51 D10 needs to sideclimb, and sideclimbing is the opposite of the meta these days.

Most of this is true in WT. The 109Gs deserve an asterisk though. At lower speeds the 109Gs still beat the P-51Ds in a rate fight. At med-high and up speeds the P-51Ds dominated. This high speed advantage is seriously mitigated in game however and it isn't due to FMs. It is due to everyone getting a Gomer Pile as their pilot that can pull inhumane levels with the elevator. Historically pulling 6Gs was more or less the max that a pilot was going to be able to pull in most WW2 era aircraft. In game pulling less than 8Gs sustained is very bad. Some WW2 era aircraft can pull north of 12Gs. More than double what could be done by humans in most aircraft from the era. That is the problem.

In WT the 190 doesn't pull high G's (instructor doesn't let you to) so in sustained fights so it's easier in prolonged turnfights against the P51 while making life hell for the first 2 turns . And as for the 109 going slow against one in most planes is a death sentence

100%! Well said! A lot of war thunder players don't get this. Aircraft like the P51, P47, BF109, And FW190 were a lot closer to each other performance-wise than they think. Coming from DCS, it's a very nice experience where you have to learn the subtle quirks of your plane. I main the P51D in PvP there, and as you said, it's a rate fight monster, but get it slow and it will bite you. Of course, everything is relative. It can still out-turn 109s at low speeds but there is a catch. the P51 can only out-turn the 109 at near stall speed with full throttle and flaps, or above 250mph. Between 250mph and 150mph, the 109 is king. The moral of the story, is don't get slow unless you know what you're doing lol. Still, glad to see you actually know what you're talking about. Kinda drives me nuts how many people don't understand that mouse aim and the war thunder flight model severely nerft and exaggerate the differences between planes. Irl it wasn't about the plane. (Mostly) It was about the pilot skill and numbers.

@@rainsilent You're 100% correct. Although I must say, near stall speeds the p51 will actually outrate the 109, but only barely and you NEED to know what you're doing. I'm coming from DCS WW2 btw, so that's my source. the stall of the p51 is 120mph. if you are flying a p51 between 150mph and 250 mph, the 109 will pose a serious threat. anything above 250 the p51 has a pretty large advantage turn-wise. (Relatively speaking of course.) It's not THAT big of an advantage, but it's noticeable enough to exploit. And yes, the mouse aim really does weird things to aircraft performance. On the one hand, it nerfs turn the sense that you're always rudder over for no reason, slowing you down. But on the other, your pilot can pull 100000Gs. It makes no sense lol. The point is, you're right. And it kinda drives me nuts how most war thunder players don't understand this. The warthunder FM and mouse aim skews performance and exaggerates the advantages and disadvantages of a plane to a silly degree. "This plane better" and "this plane worse" weren't really big issues IRL. most planes were relatively equal IRL.

@@dennizkucuk835It will outrate the 109 since the 109 loses its propeller efficiency below certain TAS. 109 will be able to stall later than the P-51 though, especially using its climb ratel. Also, in WT, most mid-late American and British props don’t get to use their 150 octane fuel and such. Lots of engine-related upgrades possible, for many Spits, P-51C/Ds, P-47D-25 and onwards, P-38J/L etc., but that would mean you’d have many planes around 2.7~3.7 then many planes around 5.0~6.0. Which probably explains why Gaijin doesn’t implement this.

How bad is the nerf? I haven't noticed anything too severe

@@satagaming9144 the nerf at around 1km isn't that bad but after 1km 50cal feel a lot smaller to 7.7 they feel slower and max pen instead of 12mm at 2km last patch now they pen 3mm at 2km and that is big oof for me it's like what a 300% nerf

I guess it has to do with the playstyle of it. A lot of (new) players don't know how to manage their energy efficiently and waste it (a lot, like by turning too much or climbing too steeply too soon, etc). Similarly with the P-47, once you're low on energy or on equal energy: you're probably going to lose. You don't really have low stall speed or the low speed performance to pull a win out of the ass against some other popular planes like the 109 or spitfire. Probably the biggest reason why zeros have gone up and US fighters down. My personal reason: I don't really like .50 cals, I much rather have cannons. Sadly now both .50 cal and AN/M3 got nerfed...

Same, I like all the Mustangs except the D-5, that thing is ass

@@Wotplaya4 As an American Main. I never complain about the .50cals or AN/M3 cannons because I never faced them lol Nothing is more satisfying than knocking out a Panther D from above.

Because the mouse aim makes controlling the P-51Ds quite a pain in the behind. While I could personally deal with the rudder stiffening I quite detested how the mouse aim always goes for full pull on the elevator causing you to quickly lose all of your speed.

Because a majority of the player base defaults to turn fighting and the Mustangs are very bad at it. Almost the entire American tree is bad at it.
