Rubber brake lines deteriorate and collapse on the inside with age. Considering the cost of new ones you should look at replacing them as well. May the rust be with you.
Back in the dark ages (late 80’s) my father decided Gemini’s were a good flip. We had 4 of them in a row and I was driving them while I was respraying my HX van. No end of trouble with them, I am positive they are why I like Fords now

Watching this brings back memories, my first car was a 1975 TX Gemini, sedan 1584cc of pure power, 4 speed manual, I'm 51 now and still miss the little bugger, great video guys, will love the resto on it, 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Knox Auto Carpets will have the carpet, good price and will ship. I have a 76 TX Sedan, been off the road for a few years now. If you wash the engine bay, may sure you cover the dizzy cap, if it gets wet, it's won't start. Good luck with this and if you're going to bag it, might be a good idea to throw in some chassis bracing as they will twist and tear the bracing points.
Boys, boys boys, as a previous owner of a glorious 79 TD Gemini, trust me that ain't a huge amount of RUST. Oh and BTW enjoy the nasty ol torque tube off the diff. If you are to consider a diff change, those torque tubes can fetch a good price cause they now are as rare as rocking horse shit.
When i bought my Torana it had the five original tires still fitted. Was a low KM car. Your Gemini tires look suspiciously the same. RUST. Looking forward to see how you guys go this year. Love your work.

Check around the door jam A pillar if there are some paint bubbles might be rust under it, and right above/next door the door latch under the rubber seal will most likely also be some rust, I just went through the same thing with my Gemini, but im broke so i just removed all the rust i could and bogged it up

RUST!!!! That’s the main reason my HQ LS coupe project is still not started, I’m too scared what I’ll find under the carpets lol. The rad support is Swiss cheese and the sills look sketchy and I’m too scared to bite the bullet and see what’s under the paint 😂 😬
Man I’m so lucky that when I got my project car a 1979 F100 I had no rust. Gotta really appreciate the luck I had and still can’t believe to this day. Anyway besides the rust have a good build guys and enjoy.

Yep. The top areas where the guards sit on seem to spread out the rust.., even behind the bitumen coating you will find surface rust forming.. pull it all off and clean it up.. the bitumen coating is very deceiving

Michael, Disappointed that you don’t want a Rotary; even if it’s got Holden badges, it’s definitely an Isuzu, so a Japanese engine’s definitely appropriate! Anyways, looking forward to seeing the build & Nathan’s XF too. Kia Kaha, Grant from NZ.
It's amazing what you will find when you have a hoist.(great purchase) Also it's amazing what you'll find when pulling out the interior. I myself would keep the Gemini stock standard and matching numbers if it's still a matching numbers car. I guess along journey starts with the first step and once you get underway time will fly? Keep up the good work and enjoy the rebuild.

Guys have a look under the guards. Unbolting isn't that much of a pain,...no really. That's one more area the moisture gets in to creat RUST. I's say the guards have already been off, hence the RUSTY 10mm ratchet spanner. Good luck. Subscribed !
Rare Spares do Boot floor sections for Gems, not sure if they do front floors? I can tell you from experience the cause of the front floor rust will be a combination of leaky heater core AND leaky windscreen. If I were you, I'd cut out the windscreen and replace the windscreen rubber and use a very generous amount of windscreen sealer when re-fitting. Michael - yes the whole car is Metric, remember it's japenese after all. You can pretty much service the whole car with a 10, 12, 13 and 17mm socket /spanner. There isn't much to them!
i remember looking at maybe 4 gemini's to buy back in early 90s with my dad. we passed on all of them , they were heaps worse than your one . looks good
yep you found all the rust.... ps if you ever want to stop that xf from 'starting', pull the dipstick,or remove the oil fill cap on the rocker cover , fords old efi system was very sensitive to vacuum leaks
Yep it's all metric fellas. Engine and gearbox is Japanese Isuzu, and the wagons were a German design by Opel, so metrico all around. My TE wagon had RUST in exactly the same areas, front driver's side was worse than the passenger side too. I fixed mine permanently, with fibreglass, will never RUST again🤣. You probably want to remove the fuel tank and take a look at the bottom of it. Moisture gets trapped between the rear floor and bottom of the tank and that's why the rear floor rusts out so bad, mine also had quite a few holes in the rear floor and the base of the tank eventually rusted through, I fixed my tank by soldering up the holes and epoxy lined the inside. The front A pillars were known to rust around the bottom corners of the windscreen, water would get inside via the body seams in those lower windscreen corners and run down the inner front pillars and pool in the front floors.
