I am very impressed with how confident, precise and professional the guys who installed your new goose box are. Thaks for taking your time to share this. 👍👍

They were great. They had a plan ahead of time and all the parts needed. They even had just in case parts that were not used. Truely thought of everything before they started.

We really like ours. I-10 gave it a real test. not a single buck or chuck the whole way from Houston to Mobile. I think we are going to keep it.

We will have the drive in another video. This one was already pushing against our time limit. I will say it’s night and day difference.

We had ours replaced at Gen-Y’s place in Nappanee a year ago! We replaced the Trail Air on our Riverstone with the gooseneck because it was a pain to maintain the air pressure and it was fighting against the air ride on the truck. Also I got bed space back because I have a 95 gallon auxiliary fuel tank on our Ford F-450. Now it rides like a semi truck because that is what I am used to.
@OurRoadLessTraveled
@OurRoadLessTraveled 10 месяцев назад
Getting the bed space back was big for us. We carry aux water when we boondock a few times a year. Gen-Y and RAM air bags make for a pretty good ride.

Could you provide a link as to where you purchased the safety chain receivers you used to anchor the chains to the bed of the truck

This gooseneck hitch assembly is my preference for my 5th wheel RV but the one thing no one is talking about, how much weight savings is there if any by switching from a kingpin box and 5th wheel plate assembly to a Gen-Y gooseneck box and a simple 2-5/16" ball mount in the back of the bed? As we are talking about payload carrying capacity of the truck, was there a weight difference between 5th wheel and gooseneck? If so, by how much? And final question, is there a discernible difference in handling and of course ride quality between the kingpin box and 5th wheel versus the gooseneck box and ball mount? I ask because the 5th wheel mount sat higher in the bed with higher center of gravity (more side-to-side inflection), versus ball mount which is lower in the bed and lower center of gravity.

Great questions. there is not delectable weight difference. the reason is that the Gen-Y pin box weights more than the 5th wheel pin box. When you add the 5th wheel pin box and the hitch, it weights about the same as just the Gen-Y gooseneck pin box. As far as handling, yes, big difference. We had a couple times that the truck and 5th wheel were vastly unlevel in different directions, the 5th wheel king pin did not want to come loose and dang sure did not want to connect back up. the goose ball has no problem. The other and most beneficial is ride quality. We had a B&W and zero complaints with it. Its still very ridged and would buck on bad roads. The Gen-Y has dual torsion bands built in and absorb 99% of what a bad road can dish out. We have one section on 565 headed into Huntsville that would cause the 5th wheel to buck no matter what speed we would go. Its the 3rd bridge expansion joints. the Gen-Y did not buck at all. It does not bang on the truck, and most of the time we don't know its back there. This holds true for our 35ft and our new 38ft 5th wheel. They also just put out a video from a 3rd party showing they put less stress on the 5th wheel frame. Brinkley teamed up with them to do the testing. truly one of the best comments and questions we have received, thank you.

Hey Clay, do you remember what the torque was on the mounting bolts of the Gen-Y? Apparently, my bolts are grade 5, not 8 so that needs to be corrected ASAP.
@OurRoadLessTraveled
@OurRoadLessTraveled 10 месяцев назад
250 ft lbs. They did 150 ft lbs and then a second round to bring them up to 250 ft lbs.

Wow, that is a lot. I need to swap out my grade 5 bolts (which came with the original Rhino box) and upgrade to grade 8 bolts.

Per Gen-Y, recommended torque is 160 ft lbs (grade 8) which aligns with IFI guidelines. @@WestsontheMove

@OurRoadLessTraveled
@OurRoadLessTraveled 7 месяцев назад
@@soggybottom23 we thought the price was more than fair. As for the Gen-Y. Freaking love it. A tad bit harder to hook up but the ride is 100% better. Add the bed space back and it’s a no brainer. Would absolutely do it again. Here’s the thing. The Gen-y pin box cost the same as buying a 5th wheel hitch for the bed of the truck. I’m in the gooseneck and bed space team all day.

Chain is way too tight. There's absolutely no reason to cross chains in a bed. That's only for bumper pull to catch a falling trailer tongue. Great video up to that point.

@OurRoadLessTraveled

I can see that. Hooking up the gooseneck is more of a pain with very little tolerance for being off. I still have to use the bed camera to get it. I do like the bed space and it does ride way better.
