This performance was from the 1994 concert at Dodger Stadium. He received a 20 minute standing ovation. He wasn't diagnosed with cancer until 2006 and he passed in 2007.
It's boring, ain't no one react to anything by Pavarotti except Nessun Dorma and when you consider arias its just not that good!! There are way better arias out there and way better Pavarotti performances.
@@daveloboda1769 - Of COURSE there's a comparison. You could also compare Pavarotti to Tom Brady, Neil Peart, or anyone else who stood head and shoulders above the rest in their field.
I was from the very lucky ones to meet Mr. Pavarotti during his rehearsal for Torino Winter Olympics 2006 ! He made his rehearsal in an empty stadium during the night and all of us, about 100 people, working untill late for the Opening Ceremony, run to the seating area near the stage to listen! The whole venue was filled with his voice ! It was a heavenly experience and a very emotional moment for all of us! He sung Nessun' Dorma from Turandot (the same u chose for your reaction)! Mr Pavarotti after his rehearsal met us backstage, talked with us and thanked us for our hard work! He was very kind, he had a strong and deep laugh and a personality larger than life! I will never forget this day ! This was his last performance! I think he must have known about his health issues about this time bcz at the end of his performance he closed his eyes and open his hands wide and stayed like this for a long time as if he was giving us his last farewell !Unfortunatelly after 18 months he lost the battle with cancer!
The joy expressed on your young friend's face, and his reaction to individual notes was everything. Every time I hear him sing I forget to breathe at least once and it's so nice to see that same appreciation on the face of another generation.
Some say pavarottis soul left his body during this song at the end. This is probably one of the best performances vocally you'll ever hear. Gives me chills every time. Fantastic never be another
I think he realised he would never repeat/surpass the performance he had just given…..staring directly into the face of your own ‘Magnum Opus’ must be terrifying and enthralling.
Iv seen videos of him in maserclasses talking to and giving advice to other opera singers. Look at his eyes as he seeks the notes and his approach to the verse. He is looking in his mind but you can see it in his eyes
Luciano was definitely the GOAT. His performances always seemed effortless. Some years back he was scheduled to perform this at the Grammys. He became ill and had to cancel his performance within hours of the show. Aretha Franklin stepped in for him since she had performed it a few days before. You should check out that performance. She did so well that Pavarotti asked her to go on his next tour with him. She declined (due to her well known fear of flying). But her performance that night is legendary. Thanks for all your great reactions. 👏👏🥰
G is swaying with the vibes...then the first note emerges from the throat of the Master....and he goes still; slowly smiling in wounder. Classic! (Seriously, go back and watch!! LoL!!) Great Reaction!
The young man has such a big beautiful smile while watching this reaction. He understands the requirements of singing Opera. Lucian makes it look easy but years of practice has been given to his craft. I love Opera as well and have seen many performances. I love all genre’s of music. Nice to see the younger generations having an interest in this music and all the other music of the 70’s and 80’s. Love your reactions.
I saw Pavarotti in San Diego and believe me, he did NOT need a mike! Amazing POWER in his voice and control. The greatest tenor in the world. Perfection!
I was told by other opera singers that Pavarotti could not read music. He learned all these Arias by ear only, and yet he was one of the best tenors in the world.
You may be right about the difficulties he was going through at the time of the oerformance but that look at the end was the look of someone who was amazed by his own greatness and rightfully so. He has always been a great entertainer, elaborate and dramatic. And i dont mean in a self gradisation way because he was the most generous and loving person, he just loved music and sharing. I think it adds to his performance. It was like " bask upon the greatness of that performance" its like showmanship. Awesome
Also worth realising that most opera performances are not amplified. The singers technique means they can be heard at the back of the theatre over a full orchestra.
There's only one reaction needed left: Luciano Pavarotti and James Brown duetting on It's A Man's Man's Man's World. So grand and gorgeous live performance.
Awww...Love the young man's smile of happiness, overall first reaction and also having his own, differing, opinion from the start: saying he'd always wanted to see an opera. Refreshing. 😊 Pavarotti is ...... beyond incredible. Loving the range on your show so far! Thanks!
The RNC used this as their closer, but another opera singer did it. Pavarotti is the closet to Caruso, I have ever heard. Caruso was from an era that has been forgotten, but my grandmother had 78rpm records, I literally warped, playing them so much. We used to go to the opera and other symphonic performances. I was the only person she knew who loved that kind of music. Later, with kids of my own, I introduced them to it as well. Every Saturday was Classical and Opera, up loud. My oldest son became a DJ, and he advertised for Senior Reunions and Senior Living Centers, where he included some of this music. The Seniors were very pleased that he even knew that type of music existed. He always got call-backs from them.
This was the 1994 3 Tenors concert in LA during the world cup. I believe it was Jose Carreras that had leukemia and sang along with Luciano and Placido. I was in high school back then but this was so awesome I bought the CD... I still have it.
The facial expression is amazing but i remember one exactly the same in the last samurai, with tom cruise, when Katsumoto is dying and looking at the cherry blossom says "perfect".... its the same stare of accomplishment and conquer of a divine achieving moment...
Hi bro, in this performance Luciano was in his best form, he did underwent surgery for pancreatic cancer, but it was in 2006. The face expression meaning was something like: I did it ❤
If you haven't seen the first charity performance he did at Caracalla with Domingo and Carreras, it is fun because in the encore they all sing verses from Nessun Dorma.....and it is so good. Also.....his version of O Sole Mio will make you cry.
I get chills everytime i listen to this. Luciano has such an incredibly beautiful voice. The world lost an angel in 2007. You should check out the Three Tenors doing this song, Luciano Pavarotti, Plácido Domingo and José Carreras.
It's not a rich folks' club. Anyone can go and there are many local productions. Many colleges with good music programs put on great operas. They sometimes bring in guest professionals. This was a concert;by The Three Tenors.
Opera singers tend to be very dramatic and passionate when they perform. Pavarotti being one of the best was more passionate and dramatic than others, lol. No, he was not going through cancer treatments at this time. This was from 1994. He wasn't diagnosed until 2006 and died the following year.
G Colo said it: 'I love music'. There are so many genres out there, it's a shame to limit yourself to just one. ''Music is the healing force of the world.''
You don’t have to be rich to go to Opera. You really don’t… you’ll find music student up in the ‘Gods’ and in the cheap seats And as a singing teacher I’m telling you you never sing into your bottom jaw. V bad idea. The sound has to come forward, to the back wall behind the last row. And breathing and air flow is everything. No air, no sound. Those of us who sing properly don’t need mics… I never used one until I recorded. They had problems! lol. Too much power. Happy to talk you thru the physiology… :-) #musicislife.
if you take the time to read the opera, you will see what this aria is about. It is at the end of the opera. The princess doesnt want to marry so she sets about 3 riddles to answer from any suitors, If they dont get the answers, they are assinated. Pavarotti's character answered all of them right and will not marry her unless she guesses his name. The court goes out into the night to find out his name and if they do not, they will also die. She will only find out what his name when he kisses her.
I was blessed many years ago to hear Pavarotti in concert in Arizona, unlike the other great singers on the same program, when Pavarotti sang it was a visceral experience, chicken skin. It is hard to explain, but your entire body vibrates at a level of joy! What you hear in a recording is nowhere near the experience of hearing him live.
Pavarotti sold insurance and taught school in his early life. He auditioned for 2 voice teaches who took him on free of charge. He then studied for 6 years before he went public. The looks you see on his face are not pain. He took himself into the character he was playing and you see him physically return at the end of the aria. It's like he is somewhere else. Now you need to see him do that with "Caruso".
It is not that expensive to go to the opera. It's about what you might spend on any other type of concert. Look up Pavarotti's duet with James Brown. Very cool. Two of the greats.
Opera is drama set to music. He had performed this many times in character. I believe that is what the expression is about. He is visualizing the role. The last words mean, "I will win!"
This songs always gives me goosebumps, although I am mostly not very much into classic music, but this always manages to bring tears to my eyes. Loved you reacting to it 😍 May I make a suggestion for a reaction. Monserrat Caballé with Freddy Mercury singing "Barcelona" That is such a unique cooperation of opera and Rock. You will love it. Two unique talents singing together will leave you in awe.😍🥰
Appropriately this aria was used as the main theme for the football world cup when it was held in Italy. A lot of people didn't get any sleep watching all the matches!
He was not sick in this performance . That was years after this. He was feeling the passion of Puccini’s great writing. Look up the English translation to understand better why it is so passionate. I respect your educating people about great music in different genres of the past. 🎶
Glad you're checking some opera. It's not a particular performance that I'm recommending but an aria. 'The Queen of the Night ' from 'The Magic Flute'. It's a female vocal performance which is probably one of the most difficult/impressive in opera as far as I know
The Queen of the Night has two arias, and the lesser known is perhaps the more difficult, although the relative difficulty comes down in part to whether the singer comes from a lyric or dramatic background.
Luciano Pavarotti was phenomenal! I'm sure he's leading the choir in heaven. I love his voice and the passion in his presentation that even if you don't know the lyrics causes you to really feel that this is very important. Be sure and check out his live performance of this when he was a lot younger that just blew me away. The best Nessun dorma - Luciano Pavarotti - Turandot - Puccini
The audio is probably from one of the sessions in the early 70s when he recorded it with Sutherland. It was still a few years before he was willing to risk taking Calaf out of the studio and onto the stage, as the role was considered a little large for his voice.
Listen to a young (26 at that Time) man singing the same Song at Home ❤. His Name is Jonathan Antoine. Or listen to him singing his Version of "Unchaind Melody". Btw...He is a Matal Fan 😊.
Since the translation is on screen in the captions, here's the original Italian Nessun dorma! Nessun dorma! Tu pure, o Principessa Nella tua fredda stanza Guardi le stelle Che tremano d'amore, e di speranza! Ma il mio mistero è chiuso in me; Il nome mio nessun saprà! No, No! Sulla tua bocca Lo dirò quando la luce splenderà! Ed il mio bacio scioglierà Il silenzio che ti fa mia! (Il nome suo nessun saprà E noi dovrem, ahimè, morir, morir!) Dilegua, o notte! Tramontate, stelle! Tramontate, stelle! All'alba vincerò! Vincerò! Vincerò!
