I don’t understand a single word, but I tear up every time I hear it. His voice just pierces your body and soul. It takes years of study and training to be able to do that.
@monl28
@monl28 2 года назад
The words are the best part! It's about a princess who has a contest to choose a husband. They must guess her name to win her. If they guess wrong, they're executed. This song is by an optimistic suitor who wants everyone to stay up all night and help him come up with the correct name. Nessun dorma means 'none shall sleep'. It seems that so many beautiful songs have such silly lyrics, they don't bother translating. Our imaginations work better for such songs.

@@monl28 uhm, no, actually, Nessun dorma is the opening song of the third act. In this the mysterious suitor Calaf has already won the contest, and since the princess doesn´t want to marry him, he offers her a way out of it by having her guess his name: she has time until the next dawn. But nobody seems to know who this guy is! So the princess orders that nobody that night shall sleep until they´ve found out who he is. He, meanwhile, sure of his victory, sings this song, saying that nobody will be able to guess his identity and therefore as soon as the sun rises he will win.

I have a musician friend who played cello when Placido Domingo sang in La Traviata, an opera by Verdi. I asked him, after watching Freddie Mercury sing with Monserrat Caballe, if Freddie with lots of training could have made it in opera. He acknowledged Freddie's immense gifts, but opera is a whole other level. Basically, he said that if Freddie had started training when he was 10, and trained for 20 years, he might have been able to make it in the chorus.

You have such a nice speaking voice you could be a light jazz or late night R&B love songs DJ. Nessun Dorma was written by a conductor named Puccini who lived in the mid-late 1800s and into the early 1920s. You were wise not to pause anywhere throughout the piece. It’s a masterpiece that deserves to be listened to without any interruptions. ❤️

What always blows me away about Pavarotti is how anyone can tell, just from the first note, how brilliant his voice is. Every single reaction video I've seen (and I'm slightly addicted to them) has had that "whoa" from the second he opens his mouth. Something about the power, beauty and control he will go on to show throughout the song is audible immediately, even if (like me) your ear is totally untrained. For him to start from such a high point, and then just keep escalating, is truly astonishing.

One thing that's easy to forget in the flow of music is that this is also just as much an athletic performance as any Olympic gymnast. Every movement of the lips, tongue, jaw, neck, and body is deliberate and practiced for a lifetime. Each breath is planned and executed to fit the needs of the next phrase and is sometimes used to swell a note up or down. This isn't raw talent you're hearing. It's the result of years of learning and practice. Pavarotti sang like an F1 rider drives a motorcycle - flawless and so smooth it looks easy.

I loved your reaction and the respect you paid to the greatest opera singer who has ever lived (or at least has been recorded!).... all English lyrics to all songs, opera included, can be googled. Since most operas are in Italian or French you can googled how to pronounce names and titles, in the foreign language of your choice. Pavarotti's Ave Maria--- when he was young, singing it to the Pope as well as later in life.... the Three Tenors is fun too Keep it up, I truly enjoy you.

You just experience the voice of the BEST opera singer in modern history. Period. Master Pavarotti makes you feel every inch of emotion every time. An opera song is called an "aria" and they are usually composse in italian because most compossers preffer it or where from Italy. Please don´t let it be your last opera reaction, it is an incredible world. Most reactor only make this one, but theres so much more, please keep the opera reactions as well as any other. I can recommend you by Luciano Pavaroti his version of "Vesti la Giuba", "La Donna e mobile" or "Ave Maria". And also the "Three Tenors" version of "O Sole Mio" that one is hilarius, and beatuful at the same time, and you have the best, Master Luciano Pavatori, Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras sing this one aria. I hope you make them some day.

I too think it cool that LP sang with quite a number of singers out of his genre. I've seen several of those and enjoyed them. I saw him with James Brown, wow, what a combination. They did JB's "It's a Man's World". Stunning! He also sang "Too Much Love Will Kill You" with Brian May. I think it is great that LP was willing to bring opera to the masses in a way we can relate to. No matter what he sings it becomes opera. He can't help it it is who he is and it's great. I would love to have seen Luciano Pavarotti sing with Freddie Mercury. Freddie loved the opera world, all the costumes, gorgeous music, and dramatics. What is not FM about that? FM did sing a whole album with Monsaratt Caballe, famous Spanish opera star. Freddie admired her so much and loved the opportunity to sing with her. There are several videos of them singing songs from their album "Barcelona" available online. Check them out if you like goosebumps.

Yes, generally sung in the language written--Italian here--although in the past it wasn't uncommon to perform them in translation. Opera was an Italian art form first, so of course many of the most famous operas are in Italian. then then spread throughout Europe and more languages, including English. Live performances now have supertitle translations of the words (the "libretto") overhead. I find it distracting from the performance on stage, though. I'd rather read a synopsis and then just sink into the experience of the sound and mastery.
@hamletksquid2702
@hamletksquid2702 2 года назад
I agree, having the lyrics onscreen doesn't help. Opera isn't about the words, it's about the sounds they make, and the lyrics tend not to be any sort of great literature. You don't need to know what "vincero" means to hear the triumph in Pavarotti's voice.

That's not what it's about. It's about a cold Princess name Turandot (from the opera by the same name) who doesn't want to marry, so she sets a challenge that any man who wants her hand must answer three riddles correctly, but if he fails he'll be beheaded. Preceding this song, Luciano's character Calaf is the only one to answer all the riddles correctly, but even after that Turandot still doesn't want to marry him, so Calaf tells her that if she can discover his name before dawn, she can behead him, but if not, she must marry him. In this song Calaf sings about his assurance of his victory ('Vincero! Vincero!'), while the choir are all the Princess's servants that she sends out to try discover his name before the sun rises, knowing they will all be beheaded if they fail.

Hi from Spain. I just subscribed to your channel because I was impressed by your great sensitivity when listening to Pavarotti sing. Not all youtubers know how to listen. Greetings.

I have watched reactions to this clip by many, many reactors...each and every one mirrored your physical and emotional reaction...and so do I!

Luciano Pavarotti was an Italian opera singer, considered by many to be the best ever. He died in 2007. Many operas are written in Italian as it’s considered to be the most beautiful language when sung, although I learned that in high school in the early 1970’s, and that perception might have changed.

I have just discovered your channel, and I am so glad I did. For the past two hours I was going through your reactions, and I love your sincerity and unpretentiousness. I love the bands you covered so far, but I am also a great opera fan. I was both excited and surprised to see you reacted to Pavarotti, since I wasn't expecting it, at all :) Your love for music is so wonderful and time after time I enjoy listening to you and your ability to transfer what you're experiencing while listening. I have watched dozens of reaction videos to opera, and I am confident saying that there are a handful of you who spontaneously mentioned the composer and musicians. Dear Jarrett, you are a real deal! I was certain I will give you a suggestion for the next reaction from the pool of rock, hard rock stuff, but since you entered the opera dimension and Pavarotti waters... There is only one more video I would appreciate you watching, either privately or by sharing your reaction with us. The aria is short, and it beautifully invites you to the opera world and the emotion this world offers. The performance is live with English translation, and Pavarotti is simply unreal. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZzUJ8Hf0hm4.html Cheers

I cannot believe that the video I suggested has been deleted after years and years. Oh well, here is the same performance ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pieIgmpZ4Ro.html Take time to read the video description before listening, just to get familiar with the opera plot.

the reaction of those who have studied theoretically and practically about singing and think that some things are impossible to achieve, then you see them accomplished in practice. you get shocked.
