From what I've read and heard, Gene and Roy were both shafted by the head of Republic Studios. His name escapes me at this moment, but while some consider him a sharp business man, others labeled him cheap. If memory serves, Gene was paid one hundred a week and Roy seventy five a week, yet their movies raked in huge bucks back in the day. Roy got his start because Gene bucked the studio back in 1938, I think it was because of the paltry salary he was paid juxtaposed against the monetary success of his movies. Gene joined the Army Air Force in 1942, served in the CBI theater of operation, returned and served out his contract and then moved to Paramount, I think it was. He then had control he was denied at Republic. Unfortunately Roy was stuck with 75.00 a week, but Dale had come along later in the early 40's and she got $300.00 a week. John Wayne wasn't paid much either and he was Republic's biggest star at the time.

Does anyone know where I can get a copy of Jerry Lee Lewis singing this to Gene, with scenes from Gene's movie interspersed? I think it was a TV show. Anyway Gene was looking over the piano as Jerry played, and scenes from the movie were interspersed. Fantastic homage to Gene. I had it but lost it and can;t get it back - Please help if you can.
