Wrong biggie daughter net worth is 110 million bc of biggie and biggie son net worth is 50 million do you research first and you will see she’s opening up her own business up for her father legacy that’s what biggie wanted and his son done the same thing
Diddy giving artist back their publishing LONG, LONG, LONG after all the millions of dollars has dried up has got to be by far the most disrespectful thing I've seen a black person do to another black person in ages. Dude was eating off of everybody else's plates for years and now he thinks he's doing "something" throwing them back scraps is straight trash...🤬🤬🤬🤬
Then offered 8)900$... 900$! For their publishings and to sign NDA to not speak bad about puff after yrs of silencing them and stealing their money. That's just beyond words. 900$ after making millions...there's nothing left. He remixed those song so much it's nothing left to refurbish
He knows exactly what he’s doing don’t give him that out. He knows it’s worthless he also knows most of the artist don’t. He wants as many ex employees to sign NDAs as possible. He knows more lawsuits are coming he’s just trying to protect his own neck.
@@horlinlacombe9658 It is enough if you check out his career beginnings. Not to mention that after he got fired because people died he created a record company out of the blue...
Facts! I know someone personally who is a executive in the music publishing industry; and according to this executive; the only artist catalogs worth anything is Mary J. Blige and Biggies! Gene Deal always speaking logical and intellectual truth! Gene said: "Bad boy; We" No! "Bad boy; You!
...And Mary didn't write or produce any of her music, so multiple people & their descendants will always eat off of her catalog. '...(The only thing Mary achieved is that) She's still being ran by these niggas 25-30 years later!' --Jaguar Wright (paraphrased)
The point he’s making and that Mark Curry made (and that a lot of people are missing because they are arguing against them) is that he’s giving it back AFTER it’s been milked to death. He had ownership when the publishing was super ripe and the industry was fruitful, it’s not like that anymore. The artist MIGHT make a dollar or two if they’re lucky but the millions they could’ve made went to P and his family. So basically it’s worthless unless they just want to be able to say “I own my words again”. Also it could’ve been done quietly but that’s not how he operates when he’s trying to look good to the public.
I hear that but what was on the contract before they signed it although I agree the music industry does take advantage of the ignorant which is morally wrong but me personally, I would take that as a lesson and find ways to make money from the publisihing
Back then everyone was about the advance money. Remember when Rakim & Eric B signed that million dollar deal? That’s what everyone was trying to do after that. What they didn’t realize is they are paying that money back ten fold and all the recoup money they can kiss goodbye. I don’t even know if they were getting all their show money back then either. This was before 360 deals.
The big catch is puff giving people publishing that ain’t even there’s…. Unless you rapped you got a free ride… the rappers had to write the verses but everything else puff paid for….. that’s the reason most didn’t have a career after him cause puff made they songs/ albums… besides cleaning up his image he ain’t got time to market the material the way the artists would…. I’m sure he still getting a percentage… the reason curry mad is cause he ain’t pop then and really not gonna now puff not involved and curry was nice he bodied the song he was on but puff didn’t really give him play
@michaelmassey3114 gene thinks he is an expert. All he just fluffy bodyguard what meeting did he go too. When did he go business or law school. Gene expertise is food. All things food!
Everything Gene says isn't always fact. All he did was bodyguard Fluffy. Where did he go to business or law school. I agree that the publishing was worth nothing. All the artist can do is shoot at the .99 cent store.
When billboard listed the city girls at the top influencers of hip-hop I knew everything had been fake because it is obvious that accolades and awards must be for sale 😡😊
Spend the money & hire an ENTERTAINMENT LAWYER to review every word in a contract before signing ✍️... Better to pay upfront in the beginning than to get screwed on the back end 🚫🧢💯
@@atomicpimp344 THAT'S WHY YOU GET AN ENTERTAINMENT LAWYER!!! 🙄... I've actually been in the music industry (I used to work for one of Miami's most prominent recording studios) so I'm not just talking 🐂💩... LIKE YOU CLEARLY STATED, the music/entertainment industry is not smooth and has never been which is why YOU HIRE AN ENTERTAINMENT LAWYER and have them READ AND EXPLAIN everything in the contract! It's that simple! If there's something in the contract an artist does not like or agree with upon reading the contract BEFORE signing, at that point the artist can restructure/renegotiate the terms in the contract (including publishing rights, intellectual property, royalties, etc...). ITS UP TO THE ARTIST TO BE DILIGENT! 💯💯💯 Furthermore, if an artist has INVESTED in his or herself up to that point (studio time, EP's, marketing, a manager, etc.) and can't invest in an ENTERTAINMENT LAWYER, then they shouldn't become an artist 🤷🏾♂️💯...
@@atomicpimp344Dumb a**, but if you reach your contract and you go to a lawyer outside of the music industry or just simply reading yourself, you can escape a lot..

Both the masters and the publishing is where the money is. But the ownership of the masters is where the real money and control comes. The label makes more off the licensing of the master recording than the artist makes off the publishing of that licensed recording. So imagine how much you make when you own both the publishing and masters.
Thank you for the dedication and hard work! I absolutely appreciate your work, been watching your videos since day one and I personally love how far you have came up! Here’s to you and your growth! Much appreciated and nothing but love here man!!
I would had said "It's like going to McDonalds or Burger King, grabbed your bag of food, drove away from the drive thru, open the bag and noticed they forget to put your fries in there".
"Who is we"? I cracked up on that part of the video. So poignant. The rest of it is pretty good as well. I had the same idea about this "I am giving back the publishing" saga.
Puff BOUGHT the publishing from the artists. Ma$e sold his to Puffy for $20k, cause he wanted a fast buck at the start of his career. And Mark’s my dude, but just cause his publishing is worth nothing doesn’t mean that’s the case for everybody. BIG had three songs in Super Bowl commercials this past year. Ma$e had one. Faith, 112, etc still get good spins, etc. Yes, they eventually revert back to the artist anyway, but that’s still a ways away for all of them, regardless.
No one wants to take accountability for thier dumb decisions. If you wete on Crack in the 80s and sold me your Bently for $2, you did that. Now you are clean in 2023 talking bout how I did you wrong. I did business because I'm a business man not 12 steps, you did Crack goofy
Mark’s publishing would’ve been nice but diddy kept taking the songs Mark wrote, for himself. Diddy would spend the money for Mark’s projects/studio time. Your publishing would be worth nothing with the label head moving like a snake.
I figured it was a publicity stunt to make his "Love" rebrand more believable. The music is worth what you make it. There are plenty of ways to capitalize off a record when you own your publishing; They could license it for movies, tv shows and commercials because they now own the rights. And with all these new artists remixing songs from the 90's, they could make money if their lyrics or song melody is sampled... and they'll make chump change from streaming. I wouldn't say it's worth "nothing" and either way you look at it, it's a win for the artist because (1) they have full control and (2) Puffy no longer eats off their pub.
your WRONG !!!! noone is licensing that music because most of it is NOT MARKETABLE for commercials or tv shows movies etc....... that music is too negative n ghetto..... so it really cant be used for much
facts and the way even old songs go viral on platforms like tik tok and all the dancing these kids be doing theres a lot of creative ways to bring life to old songs. but these artist are old man when i saw mark curry i couldnt believe it he was completely gray you give a guy his publishing at 50 that you took when he was 25 at this point these artist need people to help them find opportunites to bring life back into those records
The music is like fruit. All wrinkled and rotten now. Had they had it when it was all fresh and ripe then they would have lived very comfortable for the rest of their lives. Puffy is a weak ass bitch and the world knows it!
If giving away 200 million dollars worth of publishing is a publicity stunt, then he deserves all the publicity he can get. The only other big music executive to do such a thing, was Michael Jackson, when he gave Little Richard and all the other black artist their publishing back that had been taken from them back in the 50’s 60’ and 70’s.
@@rillaaa5740 Yeah, it definitely all about finding opportunity. Someone may be working on a 90’s period piece and may want to license the songs. Literally anything can happen. It’s just funny to me because this is a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” kind of situation. If he would’ve held onto their publishing for 20 more years, they’d complain too.
If and when one swindles another person in any kind of business, it's still called swindle. It's greed and indifferent towards your own kind, it's not business.

If these publishings are worthless, I am first in line to buy them from whoever is selling. The worst thing that could happen is they go back and sell to diddy at his price. Being broke is a curse and I’m not talking financially broken
@@jayc5756 Definitely not worthless. The newly reinstated owners just have to go out and breathe new life into their product. What is even more priceless, is to be able to say “I own my shit”
This is why I never thought puffy had a change of heart or anything, because other than biggie smalls the rest of those artist, their music was only worth something when it came out. They could’ve made a couple million back in the day but it’s not like any of those songs were legendary. Biggie is the only one from bad boy that has music that can be used for soundtracks, commercials, etc. I I’m not saying he’s the only one that can be used because of anything legal I’m saying he’s the only one that has music that’s going to get use because he’s looked at as a legendary artist today and everyone knows his songs. If you go back and you look at the other artist that got their publishing back you can’t seriously say that you think Warner Bros. Or Paramount are really going to pay any money for any of those songs to be used in a movie trailer coming out? I’m not seeing nobody remembers it, but I’m just saying there’s not enough people there other than songs that biggie did. If her feet really wanted to look out for them, he would pay them the money that he made off those songs 25 years ago. He can afford it now it’s not like any of those songs individually made millions. Everyone of those songs by themselves probably made a couple million and that would honestly change the life of everyone that got robbed of their money back then.
I totally get Gene's point. Diddy might have leveraged their catalogs to get certain deals. It would have been ideal to have the publishing when those songs were selling in record stores or when they were getting considerable airplay. Now many of those songs aren't selling or going to get played on radio to generate significant royalties. But the good thing about getting it back is you never know which song a music supervisor might want for a television/movie scene and if you own the publishing, you're getting paid. Also, many young producers (some who are signed to major labels), sample songs from the 90's that may not be getting consistent radio play anymore. But if it gets sampled, now the publisher is getting paid based on how the new song is doing. So if the new song is a hit and you're getting paid good! A few examples of this in recent years are Lil Nas X "Old Town Road" sampling Nine Inch Nails "34 Ghosts IV"; Tyler the Creator "Wusyaname" sampling H-Town "Backseat (Wit No Sheets)"; and Drake "Nonstop" sampling Mack Daddy Ju "My Head is Spinnin".
To your last part, exactly. Not to mention the fact they can remix their own songs and not have to worry about cutting in anybody else that doesn't have a writing or production credit. That alone is a big deal, especially if the original song is a strong enough foundation on its own. This is one of those situations where the artists, especially if they don't have a lot of residual income, have the responsibility of doing something with their previously released music. You can't expect Puff (or anyone) to cut you a big check solely because you were a part of a big song almost 30 years ago. Shop the song around, remix it, and so forth.
@@kelvinmanley6166- Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe the writers would still get publishing. The composition would go to the original copywriter/publishing
@@elcemuziq8514 think it depends on the owner of the song could be wrong tho hell if it's 50% which sounds reasonable and it's three writes that ain't much
I heard lots of commercials with 90s hip hop on tv lately. That publishing is going to feed a lot of people. By law artists get their publishing back in 30 years. Thats why he did it.
Cam'ron actually mentioned it on his IG page. Cam was talking about his and Mase's deal for their show and Cam said Mase got his publishing back too. So I knew about it before Puffy made the announcement.
Its definitely worth something if you market it correctly. These days their are so many outlets where you can markey your music for free or very little money
Just here reading the comments with people talking about “Gene lost Credibility” HE NEVER HAD CREDIBILITY. Some of you think liars can’t maintain the same story every time they tell it, then you haven’t met lawyers or had lawyers before. 😂😂😂
Its still worth something if its still playing today...which it is, cause a lot of them made classics. But yeah, Puff made a ton from it already, so yeah.
The Vast Majority of artists back then, regardless of the label they were on signed a "Standard" Record Contract and didn't get their publishing. What Puffy did is extremely rare.
Aubrey from Danity Kane said the SAME thing and is also alleging that something is about to come out about Diddy which may be motivating him to do this.
For the average artist, these publishings mostly follow an exponential decay type of curve: they bring in a lot of money when the albums first come out but quickly decrease. Of course, there is always the possibility of having one or two major hits that catch on and end up being used for commercials, movies, etc., but that’s rare. With the exception of 112 and Mase, what bad boy artists have long lasting hits?
It’s ashame cuz ppl will still support puffy cuz they’re enchanted by the success and celebrity. Instead of holding him accountable of all the grimy shyt he’s done to his artists. #BadBoy4Life
