I really wanted Gene Keady and the Purdue Boilermakers to win this game over Duke in this NCAA Tournament Regional Final. Gene Keady is one of my favorite coaches of all time. The coaching job he did in 1996 was truly remarkable but this is about the 1993-1994 Purdue Boilermakers who were led by Glenn Robinson. However, Purdue was not able to win as Gene Keady is perhaps the greatest coach ever to not make it to the Final 4. Enjoy this college basketball history video from the '90s.

I really wanted Purdue to win this game but it wasn't meant to be. Gene Keady was such an entertaining coach on the sideline but he was also a tremendous coach. I thought the coaching job he did for the 1995-1996 season was one of the best coaching jobs ever. What are your thoughts about Gene Keady?

Thanks for this. As a Purdue fan I had to check out Keady's reactions somewhere on RU-vid after hearing the news of his HoF election and your video was great. The loss in the '94 game hurts a bit but you added something to smile about. Matt Painter is his opposite personality wise but we are so fortunate to have so much stability.

I was at this game with my face painted - "sneaking down" to seats on the floor behind the basket. Thanks for the trip down memory lane! I still remember having to wash my face in the Denny's bathroom before making the trek back to West Lafayette overnight for a class where attendance mattered. A disappointing loss for sure, but that game and the pair in Lexington before it are experiences I'll never forget. Thank you, Purdue! #BoilerUp

I love the Cincinnatti shirt. That means you best be having a Danny Fortson video. Glenn Robinson and Fortson were best/favorite college players i ever watched. Players' college careers should be givem more respect in evakuating their overall basketball careers and achievements.

I'm mad that I sold so many of my jerseys from the '90s as this was one of the few '90s jerseys/shirts that I still had. Fortson was tough. Cincy had so many tough players during the Huggins era. I hope next college basketball season I can do a video about the career of Bob Huggins with the Bearcats. I really want to do that video. Maybe a Fortson video too. Thanks again.

@@90sSportsNostalgia I remember always hearing about how strong Fortson was with his drop step, and the quote was someone could be doing a pull up on his arm and not faze him. I emulated that move in my game in pickup games - I was 165 lbs and in winter I would lift and take creatinine and get to 175 lbs and then I felt like beast down low like Fortson, but my friend would tease me and say I was doing the Mark Jackson 15 second post up that was ultimateky made illegal because it was boring and lame.

Whej i saw Purdue wss in the final thus year, the first thing i asked was whether Gene Keady wss still alive. No ome i wss wstching game with even knew who i was talking about. I was really happy to then see him there. I really wish Purdue had won, but still was special he was there to see game. Hope he enjoyed it too.

I was a Sr at Purdue, and watched "Big Dog" from under the tunnel basket quite often. Did ROTC color guard for pregame Nat. Anthem. Even briefly met Dickie V. Miss those days. Thanks fr for the memories!

This was a great team, but I think his 1988 team was Gene Keady’s best team. Just my opinion.

Thank you so much for the comment and watching the video. 1988 was a little before my time, all I remember from that year was the title game and Temple being #1. I kind of started watching Big 10 basketball in 1989 with the Flying Illini and Jay Edwards at Indiana. But I will take your word that the '88 team was Keady's best team. Thanks again.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of any close; maybe Steve Lavin and Eddie Sutton who looked like a mean professor with his hair, but I can't think of anyone that came close. And then there was Mike Jarvis who had the Uncle Phil look. Thanks again for commenting.

Nobody choked in the tournament more than Gene Keady, except for Matt Painter.

I don't know how to reply to your comment with two Purdue coaches in one sentence like that. But for some reason, I got a chuckle with your comment; and although I do think both Keady and Painter are great coaches, I do understand why some would call them coaches who choked in the tourney. I would like to say. what Keady did with the '96 team was remarkable as they were the No. 1 and almost lost in the first round. Then the 2000 team, taking them to the Elite 8 was also pretty remarkable. However, Keady and Painter haven't made a Final Four and I understand why there are those who call Keady and Painter chokers. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching the video.
