Dr. Adrienne Caughfield will discuss the sinister saga of Major General Edwin Walker. After serving in World War II, General Edwin Walker commanded the 7th Infantry Regiment during the Korean War. On the evening of April 10, 1963, General Walker was sitting at a desk at his Dallas residence when a bullet entered through a window and struck a wall. Barely avoiding his head, Gen. Walker suffered minor injuries from broken glass shards. Police were notified and the gunman was not identified for months. After President Kennedy was assassinated on Nov. 22, 1963, Marina Oswald offered evidence that connected the President’s alleged assassin Lee Harvey Oswald with the attempt to kill General Walker.
Adrienne Caughfield received her PhD from TCU in Ft. Worth. Her dissertation, which dealt with women in pre-war Texas and their views on American expansion and Manifest Destiny, was published in 2005 as True Women and Westward Expansion. She has taught US History at Collin College since 2010.

A very interesting and well-researched presentation. I did find one error, though: the bullet found in Walker's house was NOT a "Carcanno". The police who examined it at the time (Prior to the JFK assassination & the existence of the WC) said it was a "Steel-jacketed 30.06" bullet. The Mannlicher-Carcanno used copper-jacketed bullets as evidenced by CE 399 - the so-called "Magic bullet". Furthermore, Oswald was never a suspect in the subsequent months of the investigation of the Walker shooting. It was only after Oswald was murdered that Marina was interrogated and the "New" story of Oswald's supposed involvement was given to the Commission. I might add that Ruth and Michael Paine had no small part in providing "evidence" to help frame Oswald for the Walker incident. I strongly suspect Marina was subjected to threats of possible deportation by the government in order to get her to cooperate in supporting the official line.
@jollyjakelovell4787
@jollyjakelovell4787 3 года назад
The Carcano rifle found in Dallas in 1963 fired a 6.5 x 52 mm cartridge, whatever the composition of the bullets jacket it more than likely couldn't have chambered a 30.06 as its caliber would roughly be .268.

Oswald had a psychological need to feel important. More than a political idealist, he was someone who was easily influenced. He was an avowed communist who didn't like living in the Soviet Union. Yet he despised an anti-communist such as Walker. But Oswald's greatest influence occurred after he moved to New Orleans with his wife and lived with his uncle, who was an associate of Carlos Marcello, the capo of organized crime in that region. Marcello, a Mafioso who formerly helped head casino operations in Batista's Cuba, was deported by Robert Kennedy. He managed to return to the US with the aid of the crime syndicate, but he despised John and Robert Kennedy. The CIA encouraged the mob to assassinate Castro, but instead it is believed they considered trying to reinstate the casinos under Castro. At one point, Oswald was seen carrying a sign that read "Fair play for Cuba." He attempted to go to Cuba, a communist country, but failed. Easily influenced, Oswald probably felt he would be a hero to the mob if he eliminated Kennedy, thinking they would back him, which they didn't do. Witnesses said they had seen Oswald sitting with believed mafia figures in Jack Ruby's Dallas club, but weren't allowed to testify before the Warren Commission. Ruby, who had mafia connections, is believed to have seen Oswald in his club, but didn't like him. Being Jewish and leaning leftist, Ruby liked Kennedy and likely killed Oswald in retalliation after the assassination. We probably will never know with certainty.

Dr. Caughfield, it is interesting that this cast of characters crosses paths multiple times in the early 1960's. Walker runs against Connelly albeit a lame attempt to compete and speaks out against the Kennedys, even being arrested as you explain by RFK. Lee harvey Oswald attempts to assassinate Walker but did he act alone or was this orchestrated from above Oswald? Then 7 months after the 'April Crime' Kennedy, Oswald, Connelly, and LBJ are all at the center of an event of enormous significance, then the most bizarre set of circumstances surrounds this event from a Mauser 7.65 being found at the School Book Depository site corroborated by police in the building when it was found, reported on for 3 days after the discovery, then after Oswald was killed and his personal affects confiscated, the story of the rifle changed to the Mannlicher-Carrcano rifle that Oswald had purchased and presumably used to attempt the assassination of Walker. Then Ruby silencing Oswald was a convenient event for all the involved actors and the video of Oswald's killing in the Dallas Police Department basement is a LARP. It may be true that JFK and RFK both knew the assailant(s), but I doubt it was Oswald alone. When will we get all the documentation on this crime released? Even when that does happen, I suspect many if not all the significant evidence has been destroyed.

The shooter (s) had only a headshot as a target. Do you have any idea how hard a headshot in a moving vehicle is? Another point unrelated to Walker. John Connelly was quoted when he was shot as saying, " Oh, no, no, no they're going to kill us all". This was corroborated by Connelly himself, his wife, Nellie, and Mrs. Kennedy. Well, if I was riding in a car and was suddenly and unexpectedly shot in the back, I would say, " I got shot, get down". The way he says, "Oh, no, no...", suggests that he is speaking to someone that they have made a mistake, you've missed your target, then he says, "...they're going to kill us all" suggests that he knew it was multiple people, he didn't say 'he' or 'she' but "they". I believe this statement was freudian, demonstrating that Connelly knew there was to be an attempt, by multiple assailants, at sometime in the visit, he was just hoping not to be so close to the President when it went down. He essentially was saying, No, no, no you missed the target, he is the one your supposed to be shooting, since I was shot, they are going to kill us all, everyone in the car including the target, the President. I am surprised that forensic psychologists have not further dissected the meaning of this quote as it was spoken in a rash manner and could be the most revealing piece of evidence as a contemporaneous statement.

If you want to read a good book on Edwin Walker and this subject I would ask people to consider a book called Dallas 1963 by Bill Minutaglio and Steven L. Davis published in 2013. It goes into detail about what was going on in Dallas Texas and with Edwin Walker. The book goes into detail about how Edwin Walker was a very disturbed individual who among other things was going through a internal battle over many things including the fact that he was a closeted homosexual which made him over compensate in many self destructive ways. Many people think that the character played by Burt Lancaster in the 1964 film 7 days in May was loosely based on Edwin Walker. The book goes into much more detail than I am capable of going into, it is very well researched. I would try ordering it from a place such as half price books or through other bookstores or online from some place such as Amazon. Just as a side note, the comparison between the John Birch Society and the magas of today and Edwin Walker and between former general Michael Flynn are very striking and more than a little bit relevant and scary.

Three minor corrections. 1) The "slug" as you referred to it, fired at Walker on 4/10/63 was NOT "Carcano" (that was Oswald's Manlicher Carcano rife) it was Western Cartridge 6.5 full metal jacketed ammunition. Same ammunition that killed Kennedy 2) The trip to Dallas was actually planned in June 1963 at the behest of Connolly. Kennedy wanted to do it in August 1963 but there was not enough time to have rallies in San Antonio,, Houston, Fort Worth, Dallas and Austin. 3) Contrary to popular belief the trip was NOT about "patching up differences" in the Democratic party (i.e. Senator Ralph Yarborough vs LBJ) that could have been dome in Washington. This trip was about fund raising for the 1964 campaign. Precisely why Jackie Kennedy went along (to help raise money).

At one of the two residences used by Oswald, they recovered surveillance equipment, optics, Marxist pamphlets from the Cuban revolutionary international, and .303 Enfield cartridges. They also recovered a Minox mini spy camera with a serial # range that was for DoD contract. When Oswald was arrested in the movie theater, he had at least 1 torn dollar bill in his pocket, which was near recognition signal tradecraft back in that era. It's for the rare event you need a live link-up with a handler or other operative. You could verify friend or foe if they had the matching half to the bill. Dallas FBI had a large file on Oswald, which they destroyed on the day of the assassination after the SAC talked with the Special Agent who was managing the Oswald and other files.

Mr. Frazier, is it possible for the fragments identified in Commission Exhibit 840 to have come from the whole bullet heretofore identified as Commission Exhibit 399? Mr. FRAZIER. I would say that based on weight it would be highly improbable that that much weight could have come from the base of that bullet since its present weight is--its weight when I first received it was 158.6 grains Mr. SPECTER. Referring now to 399. Mr. FRAZIER. Exhibit 399, and its original normal weight would be 160 to 161 grains, and those three metal fragments had a total of 2.1 grains as I recall--2.3 grains. This will be probably longer than most of you care to read and I apologize in advance for it. But I hope nevertheless that many of you will read this. Why? Because I'm 75 years of age, and probably unlike many of you reading this, was a alive when JFK was assassinated. And sometime after that terrible event, I did learn of the connection between Oswald and Gen. Walker, although I can't recall from whom I learned it or when. My story begins when I was a senior in high school with an excellent English teacher. He appealed to my native interest in history, and after I graduated that summer I contacted him. He invited me to his home and we talked. I asked him for reading material and he provided me with some books with a conservative orientation, as well as some English class type reading. I thought nothing of it as my dad was a loyal Republican who in his words, "was fearful of the Kennedy Dynasty," i.e., Jack, Bobby and as Ted president one after the other. The English teacher, who by the way, was a WWII combat vet whose wartime experience was a major reason for his joining the John Birch Society (my theory). The teacher never told me of his JBS membership, that was revealed through the loose-lipped father of a high school friend.. But I want to emphasize that the teacher never tried to recruit me into the Society. He knew that even in our Republican small town that the Society was controversial and certainly didn't want parents to know their son's teacher was a JBS member. At that time in my life I was 18-19 years old, very naive about life and US history. Sure, I knew the basic facts but that was about it at that point. After a year of college and the election year of 1964, through another high school friend, I came to know a few other John Birchers as they called themselves. They were "older" folks, meaning about our parents age. Through some of them I came to hear of Gen. Walker and somehow also came to know that Lee Harvey Oswald had indeed attempted to kill him in April 1963. How tragic it was for our country that Oswald either did not kill or seriously wound Walker so as to result in a serious police pursuit. I don't know if the means of pursuit were sophisticated enough to result in a capture of Oswald or the publicity might have deterred Oswald from the assassination. As the Vietnam War intensified and the casualties mounted I found myself wondering if Kennedy had lived would he have called off the war. I think he had the courage to do it and the smarts to see that our country had made a terrible mistake. Will never know, of course. No one will, and it's still a point of dispute. The years passed, I developed my own ideas, evolved from my youthful right-wing philosophy into a liberal/middle of the road Democrat. But I still have vivid memories of that time. And I'd love to meet Doctor Caughfield and thank her for her excellent talk. A very excellent and truly objective, factual speech. It's difficult to find such these days. To those of you who are younger than I, you've been given a gift by Prof. Caughfield.

This is what happened that morning of November 22, 1963 in Dallas and the Zapruder video speaks very clearly. The presidential limousine takes Elm Street and after a few meters the first shot fired by Nicoletti starts who, together with Rosselli, was hidden in the Dal Tex Building. The first bullet misses its target and hits the sidewalk of the triple rail crossing at the end of the square and a splinter ends up in the face of James Tague, a passerby who was standing there. The second bullet hits Kennedy in the throat, and as you can see in the footage, the president puts his hands around his neck and Governor Connally turns back to understand what happened. The third bullet misses and ends up on the lawn where it is later found by an FBI man and Deputy Buddy Walthers. The fourth bullet hits Connally who emits a grimace of pain as seen in the video and brings his right hand to his stomach because he accuses an immediate pain and then the bullet pierces his right wrist and plants itself in the thigh of his left leg. The fifth bullet hits Kennedy in the back of the head and the sixth bullet, fired by James Files hiding on the grassy knoll half a second after the fifth shot, shoots both Kennedy's blood and head back, and the brain leaking was due to pressure. of the sixth bullet that had left an apple-sized hole behind Kennedy's head, as evidenced by photos of 14 people bringing their hands to the same spot on their heads. I say with certainty that the bullets were 6 because it seems that a shot was fired about every three seconds, that is the time to reload the rifle. Returning to Connally, which is the key to clarifying the mystery well, there is a lot to say. 1) First of all, from the angle in which Oswald would have found himself firing, which was about 45 degrees, only Kennedy would have been hit and no one else, the bullet could not in any way make a deviation and then hit the governor. 2) When Kennedy is shot Connally turns around to see what happens and stays there for about three seconds, the time to reload the shot in the rifle; if the governor had been hit by the magic bullet, at the same time as the president, he would have had the same reaction as Kennedy and would have neither the way nor the strength to look back. 3) The governor Connally when he is wounded is still turned and you see a grimace of pain as I mentioned before him and then turn forward again and collapse on his wife's legs. 4) In the video you can see how Connally bumps his head in front of the glass that separates him from the driver's and assistant's seats. 5) Do you know why Connally was hit? Both because Kennedy threw himself on his wife's right shoulder, because bending over did not hinder the trajectory of the fourth bullet that almost grazed him hitting the governor, and because the shot was fired by Nicoletti from the window of the Dal Tex Building and reached the governor, because Kennedy was leaning towards his wife. So, not only does the first missile reveal where the shot really came from, but also what hit Connally. Indisputable and real evidence, but unfortunately denied by many, including the Warren commission which veiled so much evidence.

After 23rd October 1963 Marina Oswald was totally dependent on the Secret Service for the protection of herself and her 2 children and as they demonstrated the Secret Service was pretty useless at protecting JFK and as Lee Oswald's wife she was the subject of a lot of hate and abuse. If those in the Secret Service (who were responsible for her food and safety on a daily basis) told Marina to tell the Warren Commission something that is exactly what she would have told the Warren Commission. Jackie Kennedy and Marina Oswald had a lot in common as they were both frightened and suffering from shock and were both beholden to the Secret Service to keep them (and their children) alive and well. Think about Jackie Kennedy's statement to the Warren Commission in regard to her climbing onto the trunk of the limousine. Defying her instinct to crouch low in the limousine to avoid more shots Jackie climbed and reached six feet back on the trunk to retrieve pieces of JFK's skull and brain matter which she later handed to a doctor in Parkland Hospital. Jackie Kennedy told the Warren Commission (look it up) that she could not remember anything about those actions on advice from the Secret Service and the Warren Commission lawyers. The reason she was given that advice is obvious - as to give a true and accurate account would point to the shot that hit JFK in the head being from the front. Did Jackie Kennedy lie ? No she didn't. Call it unwitting obfuscation caused by the devious suggestion of the Secret Service and Warren Commission lawyers. Marina Oswald had to believe everything she was told by her Secret Service protectors and was initially convinced that Lee Oswald was solely responsible for JFK's death. With more information in later years Marina Oswald developed the opinion that her husband was the patsy that he declared himself to be. I have never heard Marina confirm or deny that Lee Oswald was a patriotic CIA contractor which is pretty likely but not something Marina could be sure of as Lee kept it hidden from her. There were two occasions that Lee advised her how to get help to go back to Russia if he was in prison or dead - First the fake shot at General Walker and second Lee's fake shot at JFK which missed as he was instructed. There are statements at the beginning of this video that do not correspond with history. Walker was not a good guy carrying out the orders of his President. It was the Gov of Arkansas who called out the National Guard to "maintain order" in Little Rock in 1957. In actuality that meant preventing the desegregation of Central High School. Several years previously (1954) the Supreme Court case of Brown vs Board of Ed said separate was not equal reversing an 1898 decision. Subsequently Federal District Judge Ronald M. Davies ordered desegregation of Central High School in Little Rock. Ike was one of the few Presidents in history to use the military to uphold the Constitution and the Supreme Court. Ike sent the 101st Airborne Division of the US Army to Little Rock to enforce the court order with fixed bayonets, which they did. The school was desegregated without violence. The Governor wisely ordered the national guard troops to stand down and go home before the 101st deplaned. General Walker was at the time in command of the Arkansas military district (national guard). He was not in command of the 101st Airborne Division. It was the 101st that enforced the court order, not the gov or the guard. The Federal Judge Ron Davies, who issued the desegregation order, was my cousin. RIP

In the 1960's during the height of the cold war how is it possible for a trained military personnel to defect to the USSR then a short while later decide to simply return back to the United states . Wouldn't there be , at the very least, reams of paper work required to accomplish this ? Especially someone privy to classified military protocol in radar training. Supposedly Oswald was specifically trained in advanced radar operation based in Japan. This alone, the way he supposedly just slipped back in to the country after giving up his U.S. citizenship like it was a every day event would have created a definite relationship between Oswald and the intelligence agencies. This whole episode, his defection, is extremely odd in my opinion and must have unreported information connected with it.

Also she failed to cover the more interesting and perhaps telling aspects of Walkers character and motivations -- she just barely mentions the crazy antics and lewd behaviors that he became well known for and then she skips right on to anything she could put a more positive spin on. She was strangely adverse to saying anything critical or unflattering about her subject -- a reflection of her own political leanings perhaps? In any case, she missed a great opportunity for drawing parallels between Walker and other prominent political figures -- such as Rudy Giuliani -- who get a lot more wacky and perverse as they grow older. It was an interesting talk, well written if not well researched, but the main failure was her inability (or refusal?) to dive deeper below the surface of the "facts" and provide truly insightful analysis. Maybe she should give it another try...

@@bbaNMDesertHwy57 Of course your own mention of Mr. Giuliani and your observation that she didn't bash General Walker more than she did might be more reflective of your own political opinions than Dr. Caughfield's political opinions. I thought she was simply being diplomatic and trying to stay non-political. What is more important here is the attempt to convict Lee Oswald of the shooting attempt on General Walker. There were no eyewitnesses except a teenager who saw two men get into separate cars and take off at high speed. Lee Oswald could not drive. The thought that Oswald could take public transportation several miles from his home to Walker's residence, all while carrying his rifle with him, then escape on foot, if hard to fathom. General Walker himself testified that the bullet entered into evidence before the Warren Commission as being the bullet fired into his home on April 10, 1963 was refuted by the general himself. Walker said he did not recognize the W.C. bullet and that it was definitely not the bullet that had been fired at him that evening. Walker also called the Warren Commission proceedings a farcical whitewash, but did accept the conclusion that Lee Oswald had fired at him. The bottom line here is that General Walker had a much stronger motive to kill President Kennedy than Lee Oswald ever did. And the Dallas Police and FBI? They did not take the shooting seriously, They believed the shooting was a staged scene to further Walker's political ambitions.
