Please wear a mask when u demo drywall. When you breathe in silica dust it can build up like mud n concrete in your arteries, clogging them and killing you. OSHA 10 courses are relatively cheap compared to Healthcare costs or your funeral. If you don't care because it's cool to not use PPE, I hope another homeowner/DIYer sees this and takes this to heart. Serious stuff ppl.
Interesting way to demo. I usually strip the drywall, gives you full vision of the area. Running a sawsall blind is just asking for trouble. One of my guys did that, cut a 3/4 galv water line, didnt tell anyone, and after water started falling through to the first floor, we couldnt get the water to turn off. Was a 1900s house. Birdseye oak floor. The restore team did amazing, guy was fired very fast.
When I was doing fire sprinklers we had a journeyman with a tweak issue pop a main in the riser room, freaked out, abandoned his apprentice and left the site. Ended up being 20 minutes with a 8” main flooding the main floor of a brand new condo, only stopped when the head of pipe fitting at our company told the apprentice over the phone which valve to close (tweaky had loosened a vic on the main before the clapper but after the main shut off valve, just ran off instead of immediately shutting it cause he was a fuckin moron lol)
yea im no electrician but what concerns me in this video is if the wired are live? Id have the whole house turned off except for AC. Seems pretty dangerous
I’m seriously concerned about your safety! You should be wearing a proper filtered mask while you work and whilst you are present at the worksite. Nothing would happen to you now but you gonna end up regretting no protection 20-30 years from now.
also wearing that top and tight jeans while working?? hell no. that looks seriously uncomfortable. that top is exposing your skin to dust and who knows what. that jeans is super uncomfortable when you're sweating like crazy doing physical work
1 avoid using a saws-all possible water pipes and electrical romex wiring 2 use an oscillating multi-tool at the top and the perimeters of the drywall for a straightforward clean cut or multiple passes with a utility blade 3 using a 4-foot crowbar makes it easy to pry anything off 4 using a skill saw to cut all your 2x4 is faster than a saws-all etc cut them halfway up and pull them off side to side easily 🤷♂️
Never demo walls like that especially if you have no idea what’s in those stud bays. But go ahead and do it in your own house, just not a paying customer’s
Yeah I was thinking the same. Looks like 20+ feet lol. Hard to believe they have a proper lvl or I-beam across that span if it was never intended to be built that way in the first place.
Save the molding, if you don't plan to replace it all. If you're flipping material saving increases your profits and decreases your cost in disposal fees.
And the best way to deal with the nails: cut them off on the back side. I like to use an angle grinder, since it can cut them off totally flush, but a diagonal wire cutter or some other kind of flush (sort of flush any way) cutter is okay, because the tiny stubs will usually poke into the drywall fairly easily. Just don't go sanding or stripping the paint until you're sure there's no leaded paint on or underneath the surface.
Pro tip, your county’s auditors website will have the structural drawling if you search your houses address. Good way to see if shit was installed illegal too!
Jurisdictions not required to keep single family dwelling drawings for more than ninety days after completion of building. Commercial plans are usually kept on record.
Contractors are a great resource but an architect and struc engineer is needed for confirmation. Especially if you’re going to sell your home or have it appraised.
The glass rod is the control of the path it takes to his hand , it's not conducting electricity example being inagine your possible paths of directtion yoi can walk in an a field. You can walk in any direction. Now enclose around you walls to form a hall way. Your choices or now limited. The walls in this metaphor sre the insulation of a cord. It confines the paths the electric can have options it can travel so it has to go that direction.I believe thats an accurate example
You're comment didn't say anything about professionals. You said you've never seen a wall removed this way. So I was referring to my world where there's no money or cost saving hiring professionals. If you can you do it yourself. I come from a big family of people who can and will do it themselves and are good at it. And yes, in some cases, walls do come down in this fashion when all safety measures regarding wiring, plumbing, and possible load bearing have all been addressed.
But really props on the remodeling, l am proud of you if hubby is not. My mother built our kitchen cabinets and counters. Girl Power Lives Strong Here. So hard to not say the Star Wars line. Great Job!
You don’t get a contractor to tell you what’s load bearing 😂 you get a structural engineer you dummy. They look at the whole house… that way if it’s an old house built wrong or unsafe… they help you figure out what needs to be done. For example, if your house is one that doesn’t follow the parallel rule, they can help you figure out what to do next. If the house was built wrong and should have some type of support where it doesn’t, they can help you get beams in etc.
