There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to take care of yourself, like the dermatologist said sunscreen, moisturizer, and cleanser is all you really need (along with water and eating healthy). The problem is that all these harsh chemicals that aren’t exactly necessary are being marketed towards young children and could harm their skin.

as a person who was once a child with hyperpigmentation (mine ended up not being fixable and due to an allergic reaction from facemasks at a young age) overuse of products gave me the condition and overuse of products didn’t fix it, wash your face, use spf and visit a dermatology clinic if you need it, anything more than that and you really don’t know if that “gentle cleanser” from Sephora could leave you w an allergic reaction or chemical burn, these products are not made for younger, thinner skin more susceptible to this problem.

@@idontknoww584 this is so true. I can relate myself with buying products because of what they look like, but this stuff helps me since I have certain skin issues. I would be very concerned if a kid under the age of 13 is using a PORE TIGHTENER. I would say if they’re under 13 be concerned, but if not please don’t be arguing unless we’re using retinol!
@Itmightbeadianez
@Itmightbeadianez 6 месяцев назад
The fact that I’ve seen literal 9 year olds asking for PORE TIGHTNERS, for Christmas is disgusting. Social media and these companies are definitely targetting kids and anyone who says otherwise even after seeing this is lying to themselves… These kids should be playing with dolls and going outside, not asking their mothers for ULTA beauty and DIOR brand makeup and making fun of their peers for not doing so….god save us lol.

I follow a sub on Reddit dedicated to skincare, and the amount of people posting photos of their completely normal skin texture asking "how do I fix this?" is really sad. So many people are brainwashed into thinking having pores is bad, and that the only way to be beautiful is for your skin to be blurred out, because of all the filters and false advertising from influencers on TikTok and Instagram.

lol I started shaving my legs at 9 years old. I remember self-consciousness started to develop around that time. it's not that unusual for girls of that age to start developing self-consciousness about their appearance. it's just nowadays we have more information and an abundance of education on skin-care so of course kids will tap Into this. it's not good however it's not that outlandish.
@Itmightbeadianez
@Itmightbeadianez 5 месяцев назад
@@Boxxxxxxxxx uh yes I know.. im a woman and ive gone through the same thing. What did I ever say in this was outlandish? Theres videos of kids asking for extreme skin care for Christmas gifts, and of course girls get self concious around these ages when they’re constantly being made that way by others. My point is that it’s worse now because of access to social media pushing it further. I never said that kids shouldnt be practicing basic skin care, i said that it’s bad for social media to be pushing more insecurities onto youth only to then be pushing ads and influencers as their answers in order to gain money, not to be rude but you very much misread what I said.

Okay, this is the sign to keep your kids away from gadgets. Not only will they be insecure of their skin at such a young age, they might ruin it for the products are not meant for their young skin or they didn't did enough research on the product which may lead to irritation, hyper pigmentation, acne, and etc. The only skincare they need is a cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen. Sweetie skincare isn’t only for when you have bad skin days…..it’s more just about wanting to take care of yourself. It’s the same thing as washing your body in the shower or bath. as a gen z, i use skincare cause i have oily skin and is acne prone. I genuinely DO NOT recommend kids with 0 skin issues to use drunk elephant. IMO, I feel like if your skin is clear and basically like a baby’s skin, DO NOT MESS IT UP!! Cause it is clear that you don’t need it. I personally did extensive research on the skincare i use. I only use toner, serum, moisturiser, and sunscreen, from korean brands that use natural ingredients (that is also known to be safe for all ages). Please, as a gen z, PLEASE do not use adult skincare products cause they are not good for your skin. If you were going to use skincare, please do your research on the product(s) you want. under 10 - water / maybe facewash (depends)& sunscreen, tweens - facewash (+ maybe other stuff depending on your age)& sunscreen, if you/your parents think you shouldn’t use/get something, take their word for it.

I completely agree with not letting young kids with perfectly healthy skin invest in harsh skincare. If your skin is normal there is absolutely no need to add harsh products to your face. I personally started developing acne from a very young age due to puberty and genetics. I didn’t do anything to treat it for a few years because it was very mild, but after it continuously got worse and more severe I visited a dermatologist and started cleansing regularly and adding some prescribed skincare products which has helped dramatically. If your kid has acne it’s most likely due to hormones and I recommend waiting it out and if that doesn’t work visit a dermatologist. If your child has little to no issues and still asks you for skincare help them be more confident in their skin and remind them to let their skin breathe. This could be caused by insecurities, wanting to fit in, or desires to be more mature, which is really important to address to your child. Treat them with love and acceptance while showing them the importance of enjoying your youth!❤

Most of the girls my age back then were the same way. It’s just evolved from makeup (because the heavy glam makeup was what was trendy back then) to skincare now because that’s what trendy. When I was 10 my mom taught me to start washing my face with something other than soap and water. It made me feel good about myself, it was a right of passage into tweenhood. And this self care has served me well throughout my life. But it was about learning a healthy skin routine. There was nothing peer pressure, nothing "something is wrong with you if you don't use it." And yes, this was before the world of social media we live in today. It was one product from a local store. There's such a balance to strike. I don't think it should be all or nothing. Allowing our children to enjoy themselves while also teaching them that these products and the influencers selling them, are all about this billion dollar industry that has nothing to do with proper skin care. It has to do with making money even if that means making you feel badly about yourself if you don't have the products. So, help your child find something that works for their skin and makes them feel good because everyone's skin is different. Teach them to educate themselves about the environment and on skin care instead of just following the latest trends which are not always the best and pull back on social media viewing that teaches them to follow instead of think for themselves.

im 11 (i was born in 2012) and personally i think this trend is completely stupid. me and my parents watched this video together, and we kept on laughing at these kids. i had really bad acne when i was 9, i didn’t use any skincare and now it’s pretty much gone. the other week my mom was going into sephora with me because she wanted this new foundation, and there were 8 girls who look liked they were 8-13 just standing around the drunk elephant section with their phones out, recording all of it. the funniest part about this whole trend is none of these kids even have skin issues.

To be honest…..there’s nothing wrong with wanting to take care of your skin even at a young age. I know some people would disagree because children’s skin is still very sensitive and delicate but…..taking care of it properly and using products at least suggested from an actual dermatologist can’t do any harm. I’m 24 years old, and I started getting acne at 9 years old….I wish I would’ve known a bit about skincare so I could’ve started taking care of my skin better at a young age. Now let’s make something clear here…..a lot of these brands, and even influencers are not telling little girls that they need those products….yes they’re in a way targeting a younger audience but the audience is 15-18 year olds, not 5-11 year olds.

The problem isn’t about kids wanting skin care because once you go through puberty obviously there are changes and you get acne and might need a simple skin care routine. The problem is that a lot of preteens are wanting super expensive skin care brands that they do not need stuff like anti-aging serums or vitamin c. They think they need things like Dior lip oil or to have Nike pros, lululemon or expensive UGGs. They may not even want it they just think they need it because they see it all over TikTok and wanted to look like the 25-year-old posting all of those things. The whole thing is sad because children are supposed to want stuff like Barbies or cars or whatever not want all of these things that most people in their early 20s would want and they ask for things that their parents can probably not even forward when they should be just trying to enjoy their childhood.

It's insane. Barring special circumstances I guess, kids that age should not have such extensive skincare routines. I experimented with some face products when I was a young teenager too, so I get that, but I wasn't obsessive about it. It's the social media age we live in. In some ways, I'm grateful for the skincare side of social media bc it's educated me more as an adult, but it also reaches an insane number of people (i.e. impressionable young girls) and peddles more and more products at us women that half the time aren't even necessary. It feeds off our insecurities, potentially creates new ones, and makes us think something's a problem when it's not...all of which is basically the entire beauty industry in a nutshell. There are so many young teenagers already worried about aging because of social media. They think aging past 20 means you're ancient. You got them already worried about fine lines and wrinkles because their view of age and appearance and what is _normal_ is so warped by social media where most people are filtered to perfection with perfect lighting and whatnot. Some teenagers are even getting botox! And while society has always placed such emphasis on girls'/women's physical appearance (much to my dismay), TikTok and all that makes it SO much worse. Young girls are sold things like not only skincare and makeup, but also cosmetic surgery. It's so toxic and disturbing.

As a ten year old girl, I have to say I did ask for skincare I can’t lie. But, I know there is limits not even 12 year olds should be using retinols, toners, or other things that are not appropriate for the skin. My routine consists of a cetaphil cleanser, bubble moisturizer, sunscreen, lip mask *from la crème not even from laneige* and sometimes micellar water. Of course I don’t want other people to think she is just a kid. Kids should also do skincare because their face also gets dirty is like saying “babies shouldn’t shower because they are small” of course they have to right? The thing is it is not bad or wrong to do skincare at a young age but also don’t want to make it an exaggerated thing -Sorry for my bad grammar - this is just my opinion ok?

I also asked for skincare this Christmas as well. I think that most kids my age like it because of the mass influence of TikTok "skin-fluencers" and other kids our age. I personally don't believe this is harmful as most kids in my age group tend to lean towards beauty, nails and hair stuff. By 11 years old, many kids outgrow toys and move towards more "grown-up" things. We need to embrace this new reality , and instead of attacking the younger gen about this, EDUCATE us, and CONTROL our obsession. Make sure as parents you control the AMOUNT you buy, and WHAT you buy. Im only 13 so idk much, but hope you can take my words into consideration!!

I was interested in beauty at an early age but I was also self-conscious. It was not the leaning towards this that was bad, it was only if it became out of control. you are right, the best adults can do is educate and talk to their children about themselves and their own self-image. making sure things are not getting out of control.

As someone who works in the medical industry, I can, with great confidence, tell you that these products are not fit for young skin. To put it very simply - it contains many chemicals and these products were not formulated for children and young teens even if some are marketed that way. I know those in your generation are heavily influenced by social media and you may not think that there's anything wrong with these products now, but if you continue to use it, over time, I can most certainly guarantee it can cause many different problems down the line. Let young skin breathe - it's good to keep it clean (gentle soap and water), and use moisturizer and a hypoallergenic sunscreen. You honestly don't need more than that. Take it from someone generations above you with the education and experience please. I really don't want to see young people having skin issues because of these products that they honestly don't need at their age. The focus seriously needs to be shifted to more important things in life: building good character, morals, values, and molding yourself into kind and intelligent person. Generally speaking, THIS will serve much better than obsessing over something as superficial as skin. We shouldn't be embracing a negative reality where kids can't be kids. The future is what we make of it and there are certain things in life that should rightfully be looked down upon and shunned. Children are the future - it's up to you. Do you want to live in a world filled with superficial people who heavily emphasize something as temporary as beauty? Where kids are focused more on their skin rather than just being kids and working on developing something as valuable as their character and furthering their knowledge to shape their lives and the lives of others in positive ways to make for a better future for everyone? If you want the latter - you can be the change you want to see. So let's focus on that. What's really important.

In my opinion skincare is good and many kids also start puberty early and don't want acne but I don't think kids need like makeup like lipstick and stuff.

product-less tips for skin care: -don't touch your face (something ten year old me did a lot) -wash your pillow cases at least once a week (something ten year old me d i d n 't do) -also wash your sheets and blankets frequently. they touch your face too. -wash your face twice a day, and make sure the sink you are washing your face with has a water filter because there are all sorts of stuff in tap water that can get on your face and potentially cause breakouts -have a designated clean towel in the bathroom that you dry your face with, do not use the communal hand towel because everybody's hand has been on that towel. -sugar, dairy, and caffeine can all cause breakouts. And sometimes, certain people can get breakouts from specific foods (for me it's tomatoes). -don't try to pop your pimples with your finger. That is dumb and it can lead to even more pimples. -if you have oily skin like me you might need to shower every day or even twice a day if you don't want to wind up with bacne (acne on back). -drink plenty of water. drinking water doesn't make acne go away, but staying well-hydrated can prevent more acne from appearing on your face. -DO. NOT. SLEEP. WITH. MAKEUP. ON.

I saw a commercial for a Neutrogena retinol product in which spokesperson Jennifer Garner asks a young girl - who is also an actress about 20 or 21 - what is the right age for retinol - and the younger actress responds “it can be any age.” So skin care companies are targeting a much younger audience for anti age products like retinol. When I was a teen, I used Noxema and Bonnie Bell’s Ten-O-Six which were both too harsh for me but my mother used Noxema and I liked how it smelled. Same for the Bonne Bell product. They weren’t expensive products and at that time, there was no social media trying to market high end products to kids or teens. We had TV commercials and magazine ads. There was some marketing toward teens but more things like Love’s Baby Soft which was a fragrance and Lip Smackers. Maybe some facial cleansers but more for problematic skin like acne. I think it’s a good thing to learn skin care habits at a younger age but age appropriate products, not anti age when you at just a kid.

There is nothing wrong with taking care of your skin. Starting a good routine at a young age is a good thing, however as a parent be smart and only buy them what is necessary for their skin at their age. If they are 11 and not getting pimples they do not need anything more than oil, balm, cleanser, sunscreen and a good moisturizer. When using sunscreen double cleansing is a must to remove it at night there for a cleansing blam or oil. Soild simple routine. My 17 year old (almost 18) just now added essence and ampoule for acne.

It's perfectly fine to use skincare. However, using such harsh ingredients can be really bad for such young skin. I started using a light cleanser when I was 10 cause my skin began to break out. Right now I'm 14 and I think it's crazy that gen alpha has all these products. Parents, keep your kids off social media! That being said, kids need phones for high school. We'll literally get in trouble for not bringing our phones and this stupid 2 step verification thing for google means our phones need to be out at school. Also, teaching your kids about social media and its harms goes a long way. My parents don't manage my social media intake at all, because they have educated me enough that I set my own time limits lol

Hi! I am a skincare expert and I’m here to tell you these products are not necessarily made for preteens. Some acids and concentrates are not made for children in mind. The best way I can describe this is it’s kinda burning a child’s perfect skin already.
@Itmightbeadianez
@Itmightbeadianez 6 месяцев назад
That's not exactly true. Yes, preteens need some form of skincare, no they don't need these pore tighteners, collagen face masks, and peptides that you're seeing Gen Alpha ask for on their Christmas list. If they were asking for just a cleanser or sunscreen it'd be fine, but the things they're asking for are highly acidic chemicals designed, made for, and really only supposed to be used by people well into their 30s. It's also worth mentioning that these ads and skinfluencers can create heavy insecurities in young preteens because they don't have glass skin, and some may even bully their peers because they don't have that glass skin or the latest skincare line from their favorite celebrity; context matters.

The fact is that skincare is just super fun! Is not always a thing related to low self steem or finding flaws for our skin. I'm 15 and i do a lot of research when i use my products, and people always say how good my skin looks, because, if i stop using like, sunscreen, the pimples i always had start to pop again all over my face. Of course there may be a problem when kids below around 12 years old start to feel insecure about their skin even when it's just flawless, but i think that's not always the case.

@araiksims6322 I see using a ton of products you don't need causing skin problems but what I don't see wrong is kids and preteens using basics like cleanser, moisturizer and SPF if they don't have acne, uv rays cause skin cancer so people in general need to use SPF regardless
