Playstation 2, of course it was going to be number one. Not because it's the best console, but because when it came out it was way cheaper than any other DVD player

Nah, honestly it doesn't. It might best the best library iyo but realistically that's what any Playstation fans would say, just like any Xbox fans would say the 360 has the best library and the Nintendo fans would say the GameCube has the best library. It is completely up for subjectivity.

@John Cannon Americans want to believe that Microsoft is running with the big dogs but in truth they are struggling to keep up with both of them. The 360 was the only thing that they ever had compete with Sony. The true system sellers are the software/games that each console provides. Nintendo is king of the first party exclusives while Playstation is the go to system for 3rd party companies.

The first time I ever saw a DVD was when we watched one on my friend's ps2. I didn't know how to put it in the console. I also was shocked because we didn't have to rewind it before we watched it.

I remember the PS2 was my first DVD player. I had the DVD remote and everything. Actually wore out the laser watching so many movies on it. The PS3 was also my first Blu-Ray player.

Who else has this vid showed up on the recommended after 3 years and also I remember I had the ps one as a kid and I bet yall agree to that we we're grateful with the all bad ps1 graphics and stuff. Kids nowadays expect to get so much expensive things while I still want the old times to be back..

The PS2 had the enormous advantage of also doubling as a DVD player. It was released before a lot of people even had DVD players, and being able to justify it as also being a dvd player made it feel a more worthwhile purchase for pople who didn't already have one.

PS2 will forever be the greatest console of all time. Had the best games, some of my favs include - GTA Series, God of War, N4S Underground, NBA Live Series, the list goes on and on!

I watched on Gameranx that part of the reason was because conventional DVD players were more expensive in comparison to owning a PS2 which was a dealmaker for a lot of people.

PS2s were still being sold even after the ps3 in markets like Brazil. It's the highest selling game console of all time with over 155 million sold, Nintendo DS is a close second with 154 million. Pretty good for Sony considering they jumped in during the height of the Nintendo vs Sega console wars.

Sega pretty much shot themselves in the foot after the terrible add on called the 32x and the terrible launch of the Sega Saturn. That is how Sony managed to gain such a huge following! It makes me sad though. The Genesis and Dreamcast are such good consoles! And even though the Saturn sold terribly in America, it sold pretty well in Japan, and it has some very good Japanese games! All in all though, I still love Sega! Fun fact: Sega actually could've avoided competing against Sony! Sony actually approached them to make a deal in which both companies would team up to create a Sega-Sony system! Sega of America liked the idea, but Sega of Japan denied, which lead to Sony creating the Playstation.
