I much prefer this to the mmc version. The mmc version just look too heroic for whirl. While the generation capture his inhuman and freaky character (if that make sense)
I hope they rerelease this thing in Wave 2 of the Wreck N' Rule Collection if they ever decide to do a Wave 2. He was teased on Twin Twist's box after all.
I hope we get a Lost Light Whirl at some point... I would even pay the extra of it being part of Amazon´s "Wreck and Rule" connection just to have that version...
Speaking of Whirl’s sociopathic tendencies, it’s ironic that in Cyberverse-Whirl’s first proper appearance in a cartoon with a proper Whirl design-Whirl is essentially the clumsy kid of the Autobots; wanting to always help, but usually getting into a few accidents along the way. But onto some Transformers news, it seems like there’s been talk going around about how pre-orders and listings for ROTB Wheeljack have been removed. This has obviously lead to the speculation that Wheeljack will get the live action Sonic treatment and be given a more pleasing re-design. Hopefully if that’s true, we’ll at least get a ROTB Wheeljack with a head design similar to his Bumblebee movie head. Either that or they’ll be working on a way for the glasses to flip out to the sides of his head and that he’ll get a battle mask, like some people suggested Wheeljack’s current ROTB head design should do. But we’ll see what happens.
@@PerspectiveEnd To be fair, I don’t think Empurata actually exists in Cyberverse. I’m pretty sure anyone with a one-eyed, mouthless head, such as Shockwave or Whirl, were just born that way in that iteration.
I honestly think people sleep on this era of Transformers. There were absolutely some duds but there were just as many awesome love letters to the fans. The Rhinox that came out back then is better than his modern toy, the Arcee was so good they practically rereleased her this year, and Roadbuster is an all time classic.
I kid you not, I found 1 tarn and five Leo primes on the 28th of February at my local Walmart and after that nothing. Luckily 11 days later in march I finally found studio series rumble. He was hidden behind a coronation starscream and fallen at target.
Great toy, bro, with a number of hidden secrets like the second set of knees (which need to be carefully loosened first), shifting arms & slider joint! Plus, his intermediate 'Heloped' mode is simply awesome! Circa 2014-15, this guy completed the mighty Voyager Autobot-Wrecker Quartet together with Springer, Sandstorm & Roadbuster. I still have him on active shelf display (wielding Dr. Wu's 'Rainmaker' Vulcan) till today, posed with the Cyberverse 1 (4?) Step Changer Whirl.
For what it's worth, I've had this figure (or the Takara version at least) for a long time and even after many transformations there's no sign of breakage. I'm pretty gentle though. For the people who want the figure, I think there's a chance they'll bring him back because he's on the box art of Wreck 'n Rule Twin Twist. I love the wonderful weirdo. I had the G1 toy as a kid.
yeah, really hope they'll take this, add an ancle pivot, a few 5mm ports, and maybe remove the auto-claws, and it's a brand new toy ready for the wreckers shelf
@@PerspectiveEnd I don't think it's more durable. I owned the Hasbro version before this and it felt exactly the same. I just had to upgrade on account of the better paint job and lack of stickers.
Nice, I think Whirl might be my fave since to me he's kinda like an Autobot ver. of Shockwave but as a Helicopter since they both have the same one-eyed heads after all lol. Would've been cool if there was a Legacy Whirl since his Helicopter mode's my fave :D
7:04 bro just described when you want to run an errand for parents without being told to but then they tell you do it and you don’t want to do it anymore because you HAVE to do it now.
Man I know that feeling, it feels super bad especially when you were going to do it to be a good son, and now they think it was their Idea, so "You Had to be Told" to help out.
Really? You've been watching me for a year? Did you used to go by a different name? Also I'm glad to hear that. What do you think makes me retain your Attention?
The first 20 seconds talking about it being a pain to get new figures is so true. Breakdown "released" on March 1st on Amazon where I am, and I had that shit on pre-order, so you'd think I'd get it on March 1st or 2nd, right? Wrong, its currently the 12th and I STILL don't have it with no estimation on when I'll get the damn thing. I'm so close to being able to have a complete Menasor and my first combiner yet Hasbro/Amazon being shit at their one job to ship the damn things out is keeping me from that.
Definitely a figure that has aged surprisingly well for the modern age. The only way it could really be improved upon is ankle tilts, and it doesn't even need those.
@@PerspectiveEnd Transformers Cloud was a Japanese Takara mall sub line of cool generations repaints. I’ll put an image of him in the Patreon server for you.
"Is Optimus going to use an Ion blaster or a minigun?" TFP Optimus: *Yes* As Cyberverse was my first TF show, that's how I remember Whirl. A kind, helpful friend. When I learned everywhere else he's a serial killer, I was deeply confused. As a lover of wacky bullshit, this. figure is right up my alley, especially for a weird little guy like him
When did TFP Prime use a Minigun? Yeah, it's really unfortunate, he could have been such an enjoyable character, but for so long he's soooo Contemptable. Just a monster of a person.
@@PerspectiveEnd In season 3 of TFP, Optimus dies for about 3 seconds before being revived and upgraded. I think it's season 3 episode 4. After that, he has his pea shooter and a goddamn minigun too.
Something on your backpack is misaligned, the rotor should click into place and sit flush on the figures back, there are tabs and slots inside that need to match. That way the rotors don’t bang into the tail fin.
Yeah I know about them but I don't use them because it doesn't make the rotor hold still, so I leave the tail section out a little so they can sandwich around the tail fin and hold place.
I got this and the roadbuster at the same time and the both look good together. It is odd we haven’t gotten new versions of those 2 in generations for years, we have most of the other wreckers but never got these 2 even after a wreckers sub line.
Despite Whirl having a real rough start, I can at least appreciate him helping Cyclonus and tailgate with their relationship (especially when a certain power master (*cough* getaway *cough*) keeps pulling the strings and gradually breaking it)
The only time I remember being like he's finally a decent dude, is when he was like "Hey don't question Cyclonus and Tailgate being happy together in the afterlife that's not the afterlife."
Crazy part: Takara via eHobby actually DID a Shockwave repaint of this lil' fucker in their cool but grossly overpriced Transformers Cloud line. They had some really cool repaints in there, though for the accompanying story, some things weren't done at all. Ex.: Thundercracker in Cloud, instead of being a T30 Blitzwing repaint like Starscream, was just his Fall of Cybertron self. As for the wonky weapons, well...Combiner Wars Legends class figures exist for the ones that become weapons, like Powerglide...and Titans Return Titan Masters w/vehicles exist and they have really wonky weapon modes (except Shuffler and the Ramhorn retool - they turn into crazy cool missile cannons)...and who can forget the Decoy Armor Pretender Shells of Power of the Primes and their goofy jokes of weapon modes (though Micronus w/Cloudburst makes a pretty good facsimile of Grimlock's gun, so I have my PotP Grimmy equipped with that). Whirl is a cool figure, but I passed on him as I didn't really care about the character...and his IDW interpretation didn't help at all. 😆🤣😄 Though I think that it would be cool to take Whirl's weapons and TLK Hound's weapons, and pair them all up with AoE Hound...yesss!!
I had no idea that happened. Yeah but those make more sense as Cybertronian weapons and they were fun. I don't know why Whirl is so famously popular. People act like he's just some Harmless Crank, but he is a MASSIVE piece of Garbage.
Hey Whirl is great lol. Sure he did a lot some would consider a whole lot of war crimes but he does develop as a character. One of my favorite moments of his was him donating his Energon to save Rewind. That was one of the many good deeds he did. And yeah him being Deadpool helps lol
@@PerspectiveEnd eh Tailgate yes what he did is bad but Cyclonus felt more like he had issues with Decepticons or at least that’s how I interpreted it. Hell he makes up for that as well when he “befriended” Cyclonus after the mutiny or well it happened basically
Thank you for making this video, it really helped me out during a bad period of my life, i could bring myself to comment for all this time, but i would just like to say thank you.
I have him and that roadbuster they released. I like this design. Hopefully we get an updated version. You should do a segment once a week of retro reviews with figures like these.
@@PerspectiveEnd Cloud would be really interesting for you and your brother to react to if you're still doing those kinds of videos. I could imagine you two descending into madness over some of the choices that were made with that line (read: what they did with Roadbuster).
Yeah same here, it's actually insane, at this point I can't even remember what figures are in what waves, because they are so jumbled, I will need the wiki to be able to do the WTB on the next wave.
In response to your message. I'm sorry for the confusion I had transformers figures given to me but whirl was the first figure I bought with my own money. I left collecting shortly afterward for one reason or another. And thank you for the recommendations.
Fantastic review PerspectiveEnd!!! I have wanted to like Whirl as a figure, but his useless weapons, stupid gerwalk mode, and fragile knee and shoulder joints make it really difficult to enjoy him. lol I have never enjoyed that the only weapons storage in chopper mode is piling the weapons into the sides of Whirl. I hope we get a new voyager class figure of him someday soon. Keep on being amazing.
@@PerspectiveEnd That may be the reason. I too never push the shoulders into the torso for fear of breaking, and I never use the double hinge knee joint neither. lol
Whirl heard all those insults and took them all as compliments also can I make a suggestion how about you wait to review The core class Dinobots and put them all in one review you don’t have to just suggestion also I feel your pain about Hasbro distribution
I definitely want a new Whirl figure in Legacy, but here's the thing, I like the IDW design, but I LOVE the Cyberverse design. With the rumors of Chromia and Windblade getting Cyberverse figures in Legacy 2024 I hope Whirl isn't too far behind.
You like his Introduction? Where he spends an EXTENDED period of time Trying to Murder Cyclonus just because he walked in on Whirl talking to him self?
@@PerspectiveEnd more like the earlier part, where whirl admonishes him for his impoliteness while Cyclonus is rightfully horrified at what he's doing. I like it cos it perfectly encapsulates what Whirl is; a psychotic murderer who knows what he is and hates himself for it.
I just started (re)reading MTMTE, and I was really disappointed when Tailgate's Energon explosion only knocked him out:( Finish the job Tailgate! DEW IT!
This is actually one of my all time favourite figures. Sure, I had to tighten the shoulder balljoints couple of times, but it was still worth it in the end. And, I don't really get your point against the gerwalk mode, cause it wouldn't even be possible if they haven't added that 'waist' slider. Heck, in the end, I even like the posable antena, I pretended he went 'radio silent' when he switched it down and turned his eye off. In the end, this is one of those figures that makes me love helicopter transformers which we need more of, even if we already have a shitton.
Glad that I gave it such a positive review then. My point about the Gir walk, is that doing it your self is fun like "Haha, I can do the meme" but when the meme is built in it's just taking the point out. Yeah helicopter figures tend to turn out so well, it's surprising we don't get more.
@@PerspectiveEnd Again, I'm glad it was built in, because they added one extra joint without which, it wouldn't be as successful and I doubt anyone would think about it.
1:02 through 1:52 - Sometimes I'm actually thankful I wasn't able to read IDW consistently - _ - 1:52 - Man anytime I look at this character I'm reminded of just how much of a stitched together Frankenstein of a toyline G1 really was. I mean for Primus' sake this guy came from Armored Trooper Dorvack XDXDXDXDXDXDXD 3:12 - And that's how Whirl lost his medical license.... 4:09 through 4:27 - Wait what? That's a thing with this toy? Okay then Hasbro XDXDXDXDXD 8:06 through 8:50 - Yeah we need more "Micro Masterpieces" like this, just fun toys you never knew you wanted until you got it in your hands. 1:02 through 1:52 - And really spot on about that first impressions meaning everything. Too many times we're expected to give certain characters a free pass just because _"they get better"_ as if they didn't start off as completely unlikable dickmules. Starlight Glimmer, Katsuki Bakugou from My Hero Academia, Mythra from Xenoblade 2, the Diamonds from Steven Universe, Vegeta, half the fucking cast of Naruto. Mythra in particular is especially bad because you apparently need to play Torna to _"better understand her as a character",_ some overglorified expansion pack prequel around 30 or so bucks released some time after the base game. I need expensive after the fact supplementary material to better understand how Mythra is a good character. Yeah, no.
They are really good in general. Wait that's what he was from, I though he was from something else. He lost his Medical License for Nipple Pinching? Yes it's weird. Yeah I can't believe I gave him that title, but it really only seems fair. Oh man I just don't even get why people have Tolerance for Bakugo. He never stops being a Giant Pile of shit, he just becomes less of one.
@@PerspectiveEnd My guess is that Mineta worked almost too damn good as a proverbial lightning rod character that he somehow made all the murderous genocidal villains likable....
Hey perspective! I just found out that waspernater will be coming in the rise of the beast movie! If you watch the trailer at 1:47 on the left side he is there flying and I definitely know that’s waspernater because of the Colour pallet and that you can slightly see the head of him on the guy, and also that he’s flying of course. This gives me some kind of hope for the movie because that would mean the predicons would come in the movie and will make the movie will be good. Edit: just letting you know that the time stamp isn’t for this video, it’s for the movie trailer that I was talking about
Ah, one of my personal favorites in my whole collection. It's nice to see that he holds up to modern scrutiny. Heck, even the major fragile joints can freely be ignored due to how well articulated he is(do you really need that upper knee when his lower knee works just as well?). But I CANNOT agree more than Hasbro distribution utterly blows. I've only found Bomb-Burst out of ANYTHING in Wave 3 in stores, had to order Armada Starscream and Inferno off of Amazon, and I already saw one Lio Convoy and one Core Sludge in stores, and nothing else in Legacy Evolution(Had to get Hot Shot on Amazon, and I got a Tarn on the way from them). Sorry about leaving another "Hasbro distribution sucks" comment, but with my recent experiences(and essentially the impetus of this video), I think the anecdote would be appreciated.
I decided to buy Netflix Deep Cover again after I sold in in a bulk full of other netflix figures. I decided this because I wanted a figure to go with Red Cog on my display and I would just use Netflix Deep Cover as that character. Already have Gen Selects Deep Cover so I'll just nickname him something else like Quickslinger. (Open to other names too)
@PerspectiveEnd Red Cog is such an oddity in my display and he doesn't fit with anyone else. So I need another figure exactly like that so they can both have someone.
Heres a funny story. So if theres one animal My dad hates above anything Else its earwigs (he isnt Even afraid of Them he just really really hates Them) so imagine My surprise when i randomly stumbled upon Power pinch (a beast wars character Who turns into an earwig) on tfwiki. I just had to show it to him. his reaction was him saying "its an abomination". My mom thinks its hilarios and is qiute dissapointed u cant buy the toy anymore cuz if we could we would definently do it.
Oh yeah, no I had that thing as a kid, my Mom hates them too. One time she had a whole nest of them land on her head. Sorry you and your mom can't mess with your dad.
I still have my gen whirl, and I love it. I found out you can push the arms in further so they don’t feel weird, mine’s ball joint just got too loose. Also, you can click out the legs to have more chicken legs so he looks even weirder. (You grab the shins and the thighs and pull the shins backwards)
Remember that time Whirl locked his roommate out of his room as a joke after everyone had been ordered to lock themselves in their rooms and it got said roommate killed? Pepperidge farm remembers If giving us sticker sheets to apply ourselves made Transformers cheaper, I would take it. It would just be like reprolables, or LEGO
Firstly I am Matthew. I don't think you saw my response. But actually, this is a great review for me. This was the first figure I bought with my own money and the last figure I got before I left collecting. (thank you seige Prime for bringing me back) I also still have this figure and I enjoy its weird nature. It's on my wreckers shelf. (Don’t worry I have a head cannon to make them better. They are closer to a special ops team.) I'm going to mess around with this figure again. Thanks for the great review. Also any good figures I should get for my birthday?
Yeah, I probably didn't RU-vid is really bad at showing me responses, it's easier for me to see new comments. Wait this was the first and last figure you got? How does that work? Anyways TR Trigger Happy is one I always suggest. The 86 Dinobots, Especially Grimlock. Inferno, Dragon Megatron, Tarantulas, Jhiaxus.
@@PerspectiveEnd Just pointing out how when a piece of opaque plastic repeatedly breaks, like on this figure, people just ignore it but if a piece of clear plastic shows so much as a stress-mark (which you can see much more easily in clear plastic since it's, well, clear) everyone panics and demands that all toys become dull-looking dollar store fodder.
Whirl seriously looks like a Gundam design. The freaky gangly ones with one eye. This is like one of the transforming mechas that the Titans used in Zeta Gundam. You could put this in your Gunpla display and everyone who doesn't know Whirl wouldn't even bat an eye. Should I buy TR Breakaway now? Is he a good enough representation of IDW Getaway? With all the improvements on transformation engineering, I hope there's gonna be a Studio Series WFC game Warpath, he's the coolest design in the series. Practically solves every problem with the G1 design. Is 16 bucks a good price for Generations Roadbuster?
Well I mean TR Breakaway is just about the Only Chug representation of Get away. The Mold is fun, but a little brittle. So if you are good with that he is your only recourse. I don't hear good things about that figure, but it was an Old Voyager so that's like 50% cheaper than normal.
one of the generic weapons, the "old timey camera" thing, is specifically the weapon he always had back with his original toy. So basically it's this guy's Fusion Cannon
Did you see that there’s a new 3rd park company making samurai beast wars characters? They’ve shown off depth charge and rampage. Ironfactory has done optimal optimus and transmetal 2 megatron now they’ve announced Cheetor and primal in the samurai line.
I actually talked about those FOREVER ago, in a looking forward video when they were just Grey Scale prototype CAD models. Sadly it turns out they are Legends Scale, and I was looking forward to them being big.
Yeah, I didn't know for a long time my self, I think it was a Vangelus review that told me about it years ago. And yeah it's both just worse and dangerous, so why bother.
This might have just convinced me to try and pick him up. I was wondering if you could maybe review the first edition cliffjumper from tfp. There is a 4th party version on Sirtoys called AC 03 Tauren. If you don't want the figure, or already have it, then of course, don't buy the 4th party one, but if you've been interested, maybe consider reviewing it someday. I've only heard positive things, but that's why I want you to review it.
I don't have one, but I'll consider it at least. And don't over pay for this if you go looking for it. It's hard to get this for a reasonable price nowadays.
Yes, he tried DESPARATELY hard to Murder Cyclonus for a like an hour till they were both KOed just because Cyclonus walked in on him talking to a corpse. And then he Tried to Murder Cyclonus again, to settle a grudge, almost killing Rewind in the Process.
As someone who has had this figure since childhood I must say I did not know some of the things shown off in this video mainly cause I got rid of the instructions the day I got this thing (don't ask me why) like I didn't even know you could push in the arms for more compact look also oddly enough the spikes on one of the knees is the only thing that has broken on my figure even though I used to beat this thing up as a kid how those scrawny leg joints have not broken I have no clue
Quick question do you plan to talk about Earthspark soon , or are you waiting for the full 1st season to be released to give your thoughts on it. Just wondering
I need to finish watching the show first. I saw the first 4 episodes so far, and I liked what I saw, I just need the time to sit down and watch the rest of it.
@@PerspectiveEnd lemme gift you mine. It's a good figure, my collection priorities have just changed. I would like for you to experience it, and only make a video if you feel it warrants it, so no pressure.
I Need This. I have been looking for a good price, but idk, I am terrified of buying Dew To the stories of its breaking Personally, I like Whirl because he is so Psychotic. It just a fun character to be because he has now chill. I can see how others find that annoying or just bad. His character turn near the end is nice. He is just a fun character
Yeah, there are a few joints that are really at risk, but you don't need to use them at all, you can pretend they aren't there. I mean it would be one thing to have no chill, it's another to try and murder people because they walked in on you talking to your self.
@@PerspectiveEnd I think it was more the fact he had mutilated already dead bodys and he didn't want anyone finding out. Or he just doesn't want anyone to know he Has feeling. With Whirl, its one of the two
Hey! Just want to say, hasbro distribution is a myth. As in, they don’t handle it. The individual stores do. Distribution is terrible, but blame the stores, not hasbro
No it's their fault, they can't get their product to the stores, and even if it was the Stores fault, there's no explaining why Hasbro Pulse is so useless. They are the Hasbro online store, yet it's easier to find stuff anywhere else.
