Yes, I think Tony is the most talented. He's amazing.

Its unfortunate because the future Genesis album Banks was referring to never happened, with Phil anyway. The production cycle was up for the band in 95/96 and that's when Phil bowed out. I really believe he started to go off the rails in 93. I think his ego finally betrayed him, thinking he could do that solo album completely on his own. He wanted too much control to ever go back to Genesis at that point

Il y a de bons matériels sur l'album Both Sides- Phil était en avance sur son temps pour faire un album solo entièrement solo. Ces chansons étaient trop personnels pour les jouer avec un groupe de musiciens.

ScottBurns2600, I agree with you. WE CAN'T DANCE was kind of the end of "fun Phil"...doing solid solo albums (the first four are fun to go back to...BOTH SIDES is the first Phil solo album of which I'm not a big fan and NONE of the albums he made following that are as good as those first four (FACE VALUE, HELLO, JACKET, BUT SERIOUSLY). And, though I like Phil solo, I still like Genesis best. WE CAN'T DANCE wasn't my favorite for a while...but I really like it now. I wish we got to hear what the band would have done next as a group...but Phil kind of lost the plot. His ego became out of control, he became more bitter, he got his new wife (who turned out to be an opportunistic nut) and turned his back on a lot of things. Phil became...less fun.

Keep in mind that Phil had been with Genesis since 1970. He felt immense pressure being the frontman, being blamed for things related to Genesis that were entirlely not his doing, jeopardized his health with regular prednisone shots during the 80s and 90s to ensure he could sing for Genesis and his solo tours, and had an almost unnatural feeling of obligation to Genesis, the fans, and the crew to keep things running. He never fully lost the feeling of being the "newbie" in Genesis and "his place" in the band no matter how many years passed. I don't think his ego played a role in leaving Genesis or in the creation of Both Sides. The record was too personal, and, according to his autobiography, he was actually keeping the record private for as long as possible. He took some hits for creating the album on his own, but said he was proud of the result, and that it sounded like what it was supposed to be: one man's struggle through a particularly difficult time.

Notice at the end when Tony mentions doing another album, Phil pretends to scratch his nose to “hide” his eyes from deliberately looking over at Tony as if to say “yeah, that’s what you think, I’m outta here”. LoL

Haha...it does look that way, but if this was recorded in 1991 as it states in the description, then Phil was nowhere near, considering leaving Genesis. That would come in late 1993. He told Tony Smith at that time. He officially told Mike and Tony in 1996, though they had a feeling and were surprised he'd stayed with Genesis for so long.

It’s too bad Phil left the band in 1996, “Calling All Stations” is okay in my opinion but another album with Phil would have been even better and a lot more energy would have been put onto that album!! 😁👍

These questions are all so boring. I always hate when bands are interviewd by non fans. She's reading off notes some production assistant scribbled down for her.

I have? A record with an interview with Mike. Side one was a proper interview with a person asking questions. Side two was just Mike’s answers and a sheet of paper with the questions. I was amused.
